Would love the Crows to bring in O'Brien. Couldn't imagine a player who is less suited to playing the second ruck role than that big lummox.

Be respectful to Dawson, especially post game (after we’ve beaten them hopefully) but do not for one second lose sight of what we need to do and that is to win this game at all costs.

We saw what happened in 2015 when the crows used the Phil Walsh emotion to their advantage, while we played the nice guys, let’s be friends not foes bullshit. That loss ****ed our season, and no one seemed to give a shit because it was all this bullshit PR optics, Kochie with his arm around Chapman after we’ve lost a game we should’ve won. This may come across insensitive but It was vomit inducing.

Be respectful to Dawson but apart from that we owe the crows nothing other than a spanking of the highest order.

It is kinda funny that they could panic about our two ruck set up which we only went to because of injuries.

If ROB is in, we should absolutely take advantage in the ruck. Perhaps McAndrew can leap but ROB can't so or 2nd ruck should be dominant and help us win in the middle. If that forces them to play TT in the ruck mid-game then that's a win for us.

If we hadnt already lost to North and West Coast I think the odds would be more favourable.
That West Coast game just came at the wrong time. If we were playing them this week we'd win by 10 goals.

Definitely not having a go at Aliir, we need to play him to his strengths, wrestling with big forwards isn't his thing.
To be honest not many teams have a good match up for Thilthorpe.

Alex Pearce
Weitering maybe
Sam Taylor
Harris Andrews
Darcy Moore maybe

That's about it

fogarty and Obrien back actually sounds bad, they always seem to kill us, especially Obrien.

Obrien is absolutely cooked beyond belief. He's literally cost them a game already, they would have been better off with 17 on the field. I think it was against freo, just stuffed everything up he went near (which wasn't much).

I don't think Riley Thrillhouse can ruck atm, crook back. He hasn't rucked for a few games from what I've seen.

Their board was blowing up Sunday that they were already top heavy against the lions. Can’t see them adding to that without it being like for like swaps out.

The key will be choking forward access like we did with Geelong. If they get 50+ inside 50s they will score, and likely heavily.

Keep it below that and we are a fighting chance.

We should be able to win the midfield with the Hornet and Butters on fire and Wines coming into his own.

They play Berry, Peatling, Dawson who might not play, and two more dangerous types at the back end in Rachelle and Rankine.

It will be interesting to see how Carr plays this one.

Also the best way to show respect to Dawson is to put 100% in to beating him and his side.

If the Crows go with 2 rucks then our short defence is going to be stretched even further. Who the hell would we play on ROB if he goes forwards?
Our best rebounder.

God that was an exciting win on Saturday. Too much to hope for a repeat?

Bring it on.
The pressure will be the 1st quarter start like it has been the last several games. If they hold and push back, they could or should win, even if close.

Crows definitely have a solid tall forward line and high scoring forward line, but if they do what they did to Geelong and what Lions did to the Crows and open them up plus restrict them, then Port should get on top and touch wood Georgiades has his goal kicking boots on.

Do what they started doing in the middle at center Ball ups too with their positions around circle. They knew Geelong ruck had higher jump and could tap it, so they all stayed more forward of him which brought cats players to follow them. Both Sweet and Vis need to smash into the body of McAndrew. He might be taller and good leap to tap but he doesn't have the body. Exhaust him.

I think you've raised the important questions.

Can our defense be as strong with the Crows as they were with Geelong? Geelong's forward line never really got a look in. Pull that off again and we are halfway home.

Rucks - if Sweety and Vis, who worked so well together last Sat, can do that again, we should have ruck dominance.

Can JHF and Butters do it again - this is the one I'm most confident on. Course they can.

Feeling pretty good about this one. But it's a Showdown ... so ... no-one really has any ****ing idea.

Is it just me or does this week feel different?

Like, we could still come out and lose on the weekend, but it no longer feels like we’re all budgeting for a drastic fieldwide underperformance by default — regardless of how good the other mob is, or how they’re going.

Since 2021 it's felt like they've really got themselves up for showdowns. And as the underdog have beat us or come far too close a few times. And then as the favourites last year absolutely had their way with us to the tune of 98 points in the wet.

That second showdown last year was a disgrace, they were treating the game like their lives depended on it and i don't think i'd ever seen us look more disinterested. It was embarrassing.

Yes we were cooked at that point and they were firing but that hasn't stopped showdowns being close in the past and that result has never been replicated the other way when we were at opposing ends of the ladder besides that covid showdown in front of an empty stadium.

They've clearly got in our heads in recent years and have had us rattled, they had absolutely no right to win 3/4 showdowns in 2023-2024, we should've won them all but only got the one when we were playing for top 2 and it took Houston knocking out Rankine to turn the game in our favour. Had that not happened we might've lost all 4.

And then they beat us twice last year. Somehow despite all of Rozee, Butters and JHF dominating we let the first showdown slip last year. plus 21 in inside 50's, nearly double the clearances (56 to 29), plus 13 in contested possession, literally every key stat we were in front in but somehow lost the game by 5 points.

It's clear they have a huge psychological edge over us. They enter showdowns full of confidence and swagger, thinking they are going to win, and we appear to always doubt ourselves against them.

I think it started in that second showdown in 2021 where we were 2nd and they were bottom 4 but somehow we were playing catch up to them all match and only just scraped across the line at the death by 4 points, and would 100% lost if it wasn't for Allir playing one of the matches of his career. Yeah we won but i feel like the crows landed far too many punches that night, and had us on the ropes for the majority of the match. It should've been a soft kill for us that night but it was far from it.

And their edge over us was cemented even further in 2022 with the Dawson after the siren goal and them owning us in 2023-2024 despite us being in the top 4 and them being in the bottom 4.

We have been pathetic in showdowns for 5 years now.

i guess after all that waffle about how shit we are in showdowns, i think the main point i want to make is i want this friday night to be the game where we finally fight back against this mob and play the game like it means more to us than them for a change.

Yeah they've got the Dawson emotion, they'll also want to respond but none of that should mean shit to us, let's not let them write the script this time. Enough is enough.
I think Nicks coming from an assistant coach under Hinkley for 6 years, was a big reason the Crows were so competitive in recent years.

He knew the game plan and how to play against it.

It will be different with Carr and our new coaching crew.

Josh Carr made footie great again 🌈

100% it does and from their perspective they have to be thinking about the fact that the old days of flood back counter are over

It’s new for everyone and about damned time….
