I’ve managed to sit in my actual seat for 3 games this year - Geelong Melbourne and Suns.

Is the club going to compensate us for missing another game? I was a ‘hero’ last year but not sure if I want to do that again. Missing far too much footy.
It’s not the bloody clubs fault though, is it?

Yeah i mean it's blatantly obvious his achilles is not up for match intensity at the moment. It was so arrogant for our selection committee to assume he could come straight back into the seniors, despite the fact the fact that he's already had a few setbacks this season in doing so, instead of bringing him back through the SANFL for at least one game to make sure his body was up to it (which it isn't)

It's not arrogance, it's a failed philosophy. If a senior player can complete a 30m skills session on a Thursday they're in the side if they put up their hand. We've been doing this for ages. What the apologists usually say though is that he's brave and just wants the best for the team, that's why he puts his hand up.

Good experience for an already tight group, playing on Melbourne grounds, and good for our Top 4 pick prospects.

What's the negative?

Because the big bad VFL is out to get us, the Adelaide Football Club and nobody else, not any of the other interstate clubs that are also going to be in Victoria.
Best not to rock the boat though, they might take a draft pick off us.

No they didn't. Because Victoria WAS in lockdown with huge, unchecked community transmission. Entirely different situation to what is happening in SA atm.
They were in a lockdown! There is no lockdown here and no indication that we will need to go into one. SA Health weren’t stopping the game from going ahead either. Victorian fans are also able to see their clubs live each year a lot more than people from other states.

The AFL is going for a "better safe than sorry" route after last season and I have no issue whatsoever with this.

It makes perfect sense. Far better to have games and all teams in one state that is doing well as opposed to everything going downhill fast and killing the season.

Geezuz.. calm the farm.. who gives a flying fu** really. The extra travel and games at stadiums we dont often play at will do our young lads the world of good.

And probably our draft pick..

Not sure why there are some here pissed off about it.

The game could actually still end up in adelaide.. just that adelaide and brissy could FIFO in and out on the day and maybe play in front of no crowds.

But ultimately who cares as long as the game goes ahead.

Its obvious that the AFL have to move every team to the one state just incase things get worse not better and moving teams from state to state is not allowed with teams still stuck in different states..

This way if the country’s borders shut completely all the teams are already in the one spot so no dramas..

Only drama might be the sanfl side depending on who is on todays flight.. they could take an extended squad of 30 or so just incase. Which will leave our sanfl side a bit thin on the ground!

Most sensible post I've read.

Funny how that works.

Victoria still having community transmission, but VFL happy to have all the games there anyway.

Possibly still have a bunch of transmission that they haven't tracked down too(based on wastewater results).

The VFL don't care about covid risk, they care about games going ahead and maximising attendances, if that's on the table. They apply whatever measures are required by the health depts to keep the season going. But they otherwise couldn't give a shit about covid itself.

The issue is border restrictions, not lockdowns. The AFL doesn't want a situation where one day one of the governments decides to shut borders, leaving a team stranded.

Makes perfect sense to relocate all teams into one state temporarily to keep the season going. Yeah a few fans won't be able to attend but that's better than not playing at all

Bring Brisbane here then if lockdown happens we'll just play Brisbane every week and get Pick 1. Simple

Wow, so we are losing a home game despite not going into lockdown ‘just in case’. Classic AFL, can’t imagine the same situation happening if this was Victoria.
I don't think this is a 'just in case' scenario. A little bird has told me there will be news very soon about some concerning cases in SA - I am guessing some added restrictions or a lockdown will follow if the little bird is right.

Edited - just read the news on ABC site that the 5 people I alluded to above has already been reported earlier today. My little bird told me about this first thing this morning - I am glad I am wrong about the lockdowns!

That's exactly why. Not have to deal with state border restrictions which are implemented very quickly, and the resulting quartine requirements. This eliminates that risk. It's a pain but I can understand why.

As I said (half-jokingly), we will get shafted out to regional Victoria and will get zero extra experience on the normal Melbourne grounds. Ballarat here we come!

SA has never stopped teams from coming into the state, even during the worst lockdowns and outbreaks. There is no way they would’ve been this quick to move Vic teams in the same situation, look how long it took to move the Vic teams when a lockdown was clearly coming.

It's more Victoria denying visiting teams from returning, or denying us the following week

That’s fair enough. However, they could’ve also just put the clubs on more strict quarantine requirements and allowed them to stay at home. That’s an easier option than moving them into another state.

Nothing else left. Tassie not allowing any in. Maybe a Monday night game at Marvel. I'd be keen for that

Pardon the intrusion, we are hoping your club gets a chance to choose Friday night at MCG as an option.

Since the other friday night match is at GMHBA, MCG could host our game. fingers crossed.
