Then why are they flying out to Melbourne this arvo on a chartered flight?
Who knows for certain that is happening? Could just be Port and the media have assumed the Crows will be too. The only facts we have are that SA Health are in contact with AO to sort out the game for this week and the game could still go ahead, but likely with reduced crowd numbers. The same media were going with a certain lockdown this morning, when will people learn that most media outlets just care about being first rather than being right?

"But the time and location of the Crows’ game versus Brisbane scheduled for Adelaide Oval the same day is now being rearranged.

AFL fixture boss Travis Auld said bringing the two SA teams to Victoria minimised risk for the competition as it sought to progress the season during a constantly changing environment.

“As of this evening we will have all 18 teams in Victoria and, as a competition, we will continue to remain adaptable where required,” Auld said."

So you think with all other clubs now based in Melbourne Port and us will be the exception?

Seems highly unlikely to me with the Lions already based in Melbourne.

Wow, so we are losing a home game despite not going into lockdown ‘just in case’. Classic AFL, can’t imagine the same situation happening if this was Victoria.

i was looking forward to going this week aswell

Yep, will be an empty AO and we probably won’t be in lockdown, thanks afl. Any lockdown wouldn’t be immediate anyway, could have just gone ahead as normal and only allowed members to get tickets, so no refunds would have to be given. Crows still could’ve got out before any lockdown regardless.

Because every single Victorian team didn't do this exact thing last year or anything..
The persecution complex of some of our fans, honestly.

No they didn't. Because Victoria WAS in lockdown with huge, unchecked community transmission. Entirely different situation to what is happening in SA atm.

They were in a lockdown! There is no lockdown here and no indication that we will need to go into one. SA Health weren’t stopping the game from going ahead either. Victorian fans are also able to see their clubs live each year a lot more than people from other states.

ROUND 16 TRAVEL UPDATE

The AFL wishes to advise the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide will travel to Victoria this afternoon via a charter flight ahead of Round 16 of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The Hawthorn vs. Port Adelaide match scheduled to be played at Marvel Stadium at 7:40pm AEST on Saturday, July 3 will proceed as planned.

The AFL will provide an update to the Round 16 fixture relating to the Adelaide Crows vs. Brisbane Lions match once arrangements are finalised.

AFL Executive General Manager Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said the league would continue to make decisions that best manage the evolving situation across the country.

“Bringing the two South Australian teams to Victoria today minimises risk for the competition as we progress the season in a constantly changing environment,” Mr Auld said.

“As of this evening we will have all 18 teams in Victoria and, as a competition, we will continue to remain adaptable where required.

“The two teams travelling today will fly to Victoria via a charter flight and will remain in the state ahead of this Round’s matches.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, we will work closely with state governments, health officials, our clubs and players to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone in the game.”

I’ve managed to sit in my actual seat for 3 games this year - Geelong Melbourne and Suns.

Is the club going to compensate us for missing another game? I was a ‘hero’ last year but not sure if I want to do that again. Missing far too much footy.

The AFL should be the ones compensating as the game could have been here. Bet they don't

Geezuz.. calm the farm.. who gives a flying **** really. The extra travel and games at stadiums we dont often play at will do our young lads the world of good.

And probably our draft pick..

Not sure why there are some here pissed off about it.

The game could actually still end up in adelaide.. just that adelaide and brissy could FIFO in and out on the day and maybe play in front of no crowds.

But ultimately who cares as long as the game goes ahead.

Its obvious that the AFL have to move every team to the one state just incase things get worse not better and moving teams from state to state is not allowed with teams still stuck in different states..

This way if the country’s borders shut completely all the teams are already in the one spot so no dramas..

Only drama might be the sanfl side depending on who is on todays flight.. they could take an extended squad of 30 or so just incase. Which will leave our sanfl side a bit thin on the ground!

Victoria was a shit storm
Our cases are all locked away and traceable
This is simply AFL getting even

Absolutely no reason the game could not be here

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Hundreds of games with minimal success, no recognition internally or externally. Not only is that accepted but they're deified? Others are shuffled into different roles to accommodate them? Multiple coaches sacked but the next guy always follows suit? It's a weird quirk in our culture

It's not a quirk. It's the result of implementing the philosophies developed at a Football Strategy Committee. The committee includes the coach, but the philosophies precede him. Sure, he can push and massage these philosophies, but he can't tear the whole thing down. If he had opposed philosophies he'd have not gotten a second interview. Otherwise known as a few beers at Roos' place where you discuss how brilliant it is that you both have exactly the same core beliefs on how to run a footy dept. And that is pretty much what Roo said.
