What’s so worrying about this situation is like against Sydney is why Nicks keeps thinking Mackay is the direct replacement for Brown and the only valid option to replace him, what has David ever done in his football career to make coaches think he belongs in a back pocket?

Also it really plays into my long held belief that every coach just forgets what Mackay’s game was actually like before he dropped out of the team, like they forget about him on game day as they have more important things to worry about during and after the game and just think he magically appears back at the club again as a new player during the weeks after, really don’t think Nicks even remembers what tripe he dished out against the Swans.

Frampton, and to a lesser extent Berg are only there to keep our most valuable asset out of the ruck.
Yes. We value the second ruck role higher than developing our first round pick.

We've never shown much interest in getting Fogarty up to the level. His development is less important than some of the least important things going around

Re Fog - we've mishandled him since we recruited him, and I've said that consistently.

We recruited him when we had Walker, Jenkins, McGovern and Lynch all in the side. If we had competent list management, the recruiting of Fogarty would've seen us take action at the time.

We lost two of them not by our own choice (well, Jenkins 50/50); but we've never had a clear development path and plan in mind for Fogarty.
U18 comp he was a defensive mid that floated a chopped off half back.
He only replaces Lynch in my mind.

That’s just silly. Let’s not pick anyone then.
No, you said if it wasn’t for him we’d be ****ed?
So he’s the difference between being ok and ****ed?

Our first Ruck is an aerobic god but can’t tap for shit.

everyone of us knows what Fogarty’s problem is.. he has a massive Texan that is in front of him and is the current preferred option. We’ve all seen that fogarty’s best games for the club have been the games where Tex is out injured.
what are you on about? :tearsofjoy: Fog's played just one really good game of footy for the club and that was a game Tex played too. This is just a bunch of made up bullshit.

I think it's more down to poor list management. Brown has been becoming more injury prone in the last few years, plus Laird has become a full time mid. We need another small def.

Yep, we've never really bothered with a backup/developing small defender since Brown and Laird were always ironmen when it came to playing.

Re Fog being dropped ( I'm guessing , he'll still get a run ), undoubtedy a few lucky non contributers have survived this week, though not to upset about McKay playing , last meeting with GWS in our top 4 disposals ( behind M & C Crouch ). As far as I can see a " Rebuild " means there are already foundations to work on, cant see the point of ignoring experience all year. This is a long term propisiiton and the lads in the mix will all get their opportunity.

Because he's just not as good as people here want him to be

And we want to develop Thilthorpe, that's precisely why Berg is playing.... Pretty simple I'd have thought.

Geez there's a few overreactions in this thread over Mackay replacing a 28 year old Luke Brown in a team where we still have 12 players with 20 games experience or less. He'll have played two games this year, both when we've had a small defender out, he's not a first choice pick like some are acting he is, he should be straight back out once Hamill/Brown are back in, it's not the end of the world.

And before someone says anything, yes I would've played Worrell instead since he can play tall/small, but it's still not worth throwing a tantrum over.

Worrell can't play small, he can play medium forward.

Fogarty's been here for 3 years before Thilthorpe arrived

I’ll assume one club explanation. Shape and link up.

And it's acknowledged that panel was full of errors.

But there's also got to be an element of the player not doing what's required.

He can play interception and wing. It’s the hardest road into the side. As soon as one of those is free then he will cement

Because we're setting him up to fail.

He's a forward. So we randomly ask him to play midfield, bring him in after like 2 tries in the SANFL, then drop him after 3 AFL games.

And we're wondering why he may not be doing what's required
