there were a few commentators that had him as a potential pick 1.. but he also had knee issues in his draft year..
Had him at 1 in his underage year, but like so many he just didn't get it together for many reasons.

He's our Josh Schache.

Yes, so it is list management NOT selection philosophy.

You pointed to these ins as an example of a different selection philosophy, my point was when Nicks has had a chance he has reverted to type.
Selection and list management are part of the same philosophy.

If the coach wanted to pick more senior players they'd be on the list.

Put McAdam on the HFF, drop one of the 3 smalls we're obsessed with.

Make him work hard, compete, and involve himself in the game.

It shouldn't be an either/or decision, but the seemingly shallow approach we take towards selection/development/structure makes it that way.

We have a replacement for Brown in the BP, Lachlan Murphy.

With Tex, RT and Fogarty I see no reason to include either Himmelberg or Frampton. We are wasting time including either.
Unless you can send one down back. We need another tall defender. It’s a lot of responsibility being left to a 7 gamer in Butts. It’s not right.

Billy young and inexperienced?!? 24 years old in his seventh year in the AFL system.

Not the "young inexperienced type" we should be wasting games on, he is "if every tall is injured" he plays.

Billy, MacKay, keep selecting an injured Lynch are all signs our goal is to push for the finals.

Nicks has done a great job getting all the players together, we have team spirit for the first time in many many years but I'm concerned his selection philosophy is too close to what we have always had (last 10+ years) and which is why we are where we are.
He's still only played 13 games of AFL, regardless of his age and how many years he's been in the system that's still inexperience, it's highly likely he just isn't good enough for the level but giving him a run of games was not a massive issue, especially when Himmelberg wasn't exactly performing below him either

If Mackay continues to get games while Brown and Hamill are back then yeah, I agree, but both games he's been selected for has been due to injuries, he's not a first choice player, it's just a position we unfortunately don't have much depth in at the moment, it's something that hopefully the club addresses over the off-season.

Every club has players who supporters think shouldn't be getting a game, it's not just a Crows thing.

Calm down Lindy, you're better than that

I could be convinced this is just a relapse but nah, playing an injured Lynch as a sub (forgivable on it's own because at least there is some forward thinking going on), doubling down with that asinine media strategy of trying to defend ourselves instead of being humble and copping our whack. Then dropping Fogarty, a kid we need to persist with because literally we need that answer of if he's a player or not yesterday, and you don't achieve that in a block of 3 games (and we'll probably make sub (or Jones) to continue on with this string of bad decisions). Especially if you are in a rebuild, and it puts us right back to where we started with Darce. Worst of all, we selected David ****ing Mackay. A player who achieves literally nothing for us. It's not thinking long term because Mackay is 32. It's not thinking short term because David makes our best 22 worse to the point we'd be better off just going in with one less on the bench instead of playing him. The only role he has any business being in is the sub and that's only to be a sacrificial lamb to save others from it.

Truly a week that would make 2019 blush with how many downright terrible decisions we strung together in such a short amount of time. The real Adelaide of the last 15 years, making decision after decision with no possible positive outcomes.

Had 4 multiple goal scoring games from 15 matches.

Obviously an elite prospect but tearing up the SANFL he was not. Partially because he played for a terrible team.
Mostly cos he had not an Adult frame.
Like cmon, I was scared of Paul Northeast cos he had a beard at 15 and I had a oversized guernsey

"on the run"

how often does that happen with berg? what about his sets shots which is most of the time? trash.
No need to Wine about it Brett, he just needs time to mature, like a good red. If you went away for 5 months and came back he'd improve, you could bet on it.

This one's even more ridiculous than your last one.

What we need now is changes to be made in the selection committee.

So the Fog midfield experiment appears to be over...

Do we hang onto him until Tex retires or look to trade?

Or are we just waiting until Filthy can play a few minutes each quarter in the ruck?
I like that they tried to get him into the game more but the kid is a forward all day long. Had some nice moments but was costing too much to carry him in the midfield, and he'd have to take Tex's spot up forward right now. They waited too long to throw him forward in the last couple of weeks as it was but with Thilthorpe's debut he has to make way.

You makle the spot available. I'm of the opinion that Fogarty has the capability to be a genuine A grade forward.

It's this obsession with spots and structures that has me annoyed. We can easily fit him into that team.
He might have to kick his heels a bit longer until tex no longer commands an automatic spot. I see fogarty as a pure ff and having a very mobile pack marking cfh if thilthorpe should help open up space for him to lead into and they in my opinion could form a very dangerous forward duo for us....if that combo can be given a chance to show what it can do

There were aso commentators and recruiters alike saying "where does he play at AFL level" also.

He was a first round talent that year, his selection was justified. At one point many thought he wouldn’t last outside the top 10.

He was your classic slider. We bit on John Meeson, as well as James Sellar and unfortunatey continued the bad trend with Fogarty. The question that was never asked, was why is he sliding? We are not the only clubs who get caught but we are slow learners.

You know where he played u18 champs.
can he play that cos he had reading of the ball ability

What’s a slider by definition when double digit picks play just as much as single.

I'm not sure why we even drafted him in the first place. Tex was only 27 at the time.
Nah..this is not relevant as in the first round you draft on talent and use later picks for needs. Fogarty before his injury was talked as a possible no 1 pick by some. That he was still on the board at our 1st pick we literally could not call his name out quick enough...based on talent from his junior years

You do realise whoever the sub is if they're not used they can play SANFL on Sunday can't they?
Does that count as extra pay for that player? A sub who doesn't go on still gets paid as if they played the game so do they also get paid to play in the SANFL? If so, not a bad gig!

A bit disappointed in selection, I think we have the wrong philosophy. I feel you really have to persist with fog and give him minutes. Mackay should only ever be break glass solution, Murphy should be in brown’s position instead, McPherson needs a spell and worrell should be in. Would have been happy for McAdam to have a rest, seems to not be moving as well as normal past few weeks.

By SANFL Media

SANFL can confirm it will not be introducing the AFL’s new 23rd player Medical Substitute Rule in the SANFL Statewide Super League following a decision today by the South Australian Football Commission.

The Commission endorsed SANFL’s recommendation not to adopt the new AFL rule, noting that SANFL had increased its number of interchange players in 2019 from three to four, ensuring sufficient players on the bench for up to 75 rotations and to replace injured players unable to participate any further in a match.

The Commission also maintained the current rule for AFL-listed players, with the AFL medical substitute player not permitted to play in the SANFL State League on the same weekend if they are activated during the AFL match. This will be regardless of the amount of time the player has on the field in an AFL match.

While the AFL announced that the medical substitute player could play State League football the same weekend, regardless of whether they are activated or not, SANFL’s current rule does not allow this.

However, should the medical substitute player not participate in the AFL match, they will be considered as an emergency player and therefore permitted to play in the SANFL that same weekend.
