Prediction Changes Round 14 vs Dees

to be fair his man was a lumbering oaf in that instance.
I dont recall many teams playing lumbering oafs on Darling. In fact they've worked out a medium defender with speed is a better matchup.

By playing the 3rd forward / high half forward or wing Darling becomes more unpredictable and would lose his opponent more often. Then utilise his speed and workrate running towards goal not leading from goal.

Shep goes hard every single opportunity, but he is still a deer in headlights once he has the ball. He's been very unassuming this season though, you barely see him (I'm not sure if this is on purpose..) but it is interesting that they give Cole and Nelson more free reign to break the lines and run off their opponents compared to Shep. Or Shep just isn't doing it anymore!

Sheppard is too afraid to take the game on because you can tell he isn't confident with his decision making or disposal. He's most comfortable when he's jumping to spoil marks, and that's about it

How many true lock down small defenders do we have or play?

Someone needs to take the most dangerous small and that's Sheppard more times than not. Not everyone down back plays a rebounding role and we have a more rebounding defenders than we do who actually defend man on man. Wellingham, Hurn, Yeo are all counter attacking rebounding medium defenders.

Maybe that has something to do with it.

Sheppard isn't a good lock down defender against small forwards though. At ground level he's poor.

He's best when he's playing against taller marking forwards because he's very good overhead.

Sheppard the target this week?

Will be happy with only 2 changes (although Lecras could finally get dropped)

JK in for another tall (MC decision out of Schoey/Mackenzie depending on matchups)
Wellingham in for Nelson (if injured badly, Wellingham more pace/attack than Butler)

I think Lecras is close to going as well, not sure if he will. I imagine he's meeting his standards in GPS data and is obviously working hard without reward and the coaches can see it in some analytical way. Have heard Simpson mention numerous times about his work ethic and Naitanui mentioned Lecras as one of the top working players in the Eagles line up.

I think Karpany/Hill could come in but it's a really weird selection as if the coaches truly believe there's some other cause or reason someone can't replace him.

I think Shep was pretty good in his attack on the ball. Very fumbly through traffic and never gets a clean handball away, always slips as well. Don't want him dropped, has pace, a strong leap and a manic attack, can roost the ball 55 and long and doesn't take too long to do so.

I think Wellingham is very similar, better handballer but poor kicking but I do like his attack.

Not true he done an excellent job on Robbie Gray.

No one really put their hand up today so the only changes should be someone in for Nelson and possibly Kennedy coming in if he's fit.

In: Kennedy, Wellingham
Out: MacKenzie (unlucky), Nelson (unlucky in a different way)

B: Sheppard, Schofield, Barrass
HB: Hurn, McGovern, Wellingham
C: Gaff, Mitchell, Jetta
HF: Yeo, Darling, Sheed
F: LeCras, Kennedy, Petrie
R: Vardy, Priddis, Shuey
I: Cole, Cripps, Duggan, Hutchings
E: MacKenzie, Karpany, Masten (held over)

So who currently is playing that role?

It isnt Hurn, Wellingham or Yeo. Butler used to but is out.

Thats my point. Sheppard isn't looking his usual proactive self because one of the smalls down back has to sctually defend and lock a player down.

I dont think Sheppard is playing bad enough to be dropped. Its not like there is anyone you would replace him with atm anyway
Sheppard isnt playing badly at all....he's playing his role. Not every player can be a rebounding attacking player. Some defenders just need to defend. Its called sacrificing your game for the team.

If we are going to back Lecras in to get the job done- I think we really need to give him a week off- not drop him to EP.

He's obviously struggling with that hip; he just doesn't have that same zip. He's a much better runner than what he has shown in the last month

And as my son decided to hit send to my post above- I will leave that there..

My changes would be this week.

Out: Nelson (inj), Lecras (managed), shuey (if the biggest witch hunt in history sees him get a week off)
In: Karpany, Wellingham, Redden (if shuey is suspended)

Tried to keep it as like for like as possible. Would not be surprised if Schoey is dropped for team stability- but 4 changes in a winning team seems too much.

Robbie Gray begs to differ with you.

Pretty sure he has done a number on a few others.

I'll accept his disposal may have been average lately, but thought he has been generally ok this year

Could Duggan replace Nelson on the HBF and Redden take Duggan's position?

Agree with the first bit re Duggan replacing Nelson as HBF since that's what he basically did after half time against Geelong with good effect

More inclined to put Karpany into Duggans role or even Partington despite his sub par game today

Judging by EP performances;

IN: Karpany, Wellingham, Kennedy, Lycett/Giles (if Gawn named)

OUT: LeCras, Nelson, Mackenzie, Petrie

Melbourne's forward line is too small for 4 KPD's and neither Lycett or Giles are required if Gawn waits another week.

What a turd Gary Lyon is by doing his darnest to get Shuey rubbed out on behalf of his old demons! Shuey didn't run through the player, but ran to him turned and blocked Selwood stopped him cold and keeping him from the play. Nothing in it. Play on!
