Seriously we need to develop a sidestep with MacKay, because if he learns how to baulk/step players then he'll be very very useful. He's always in the right spots and presents as an option for link up play but...no side step costs him a lot of the time.
Surely our midfield coach would have worked this out by now?
They've tried everything but he's just so mechanical

Bailey had him taking different routes in car to west lakes to get him thinking outside square

Agree that he does know how to position himself as an outside player

Reckon he may return for the Cats game.
I'd like at least 10-14 days of training for each week lost. Would say such an illness would knock your fitness back a lot - and his game requires continual running. JJ yesterday on the radio suggested he still got headaches when he was out and about for a few hours.

Agree. Milera might not be getting huge amounts of it but what he does get he uses well. He is also 19 with only just over 20 games. Once you get past 50 AFL games I feel its more about team benefit rather than development. Not saying you can't keep on developing players after they have played 50 games but it can no longer be used as an excuse for continuous poor performances. Blighty used to say you would know how good a player is going to be after only 30 games.
I've been backing Milera to play each week but watching live and seeing him have 11 possessions ( all uncontested ) and he's actually not backing himself in to run and use full length of his kick

I'd give him one game in sanfl in the middle of the action and if shows good ball winning ability and takes game on more bring him straight back - ie a little re programming

Seedsman is ready to play and if want to drop Cameron can bring in Galluci

I can only comment on something like glandular fever that I had. Took three weeks just to be able to function as a normal human being again (ie without sweating or headaches from just walking around).

Really bad viruses can take weeks to just get out of your system. Let alone then having to put back on all the weight you've lost (8kgs in 3 weeks for me) then back to exercising.

I would be amazed if lynch is back playing before round 20 or even later. Perhaps even the last couple of minor round games.

We don't have dusty Martin in the twos we have gooch who had a crack against brissie and was pretty ordinary we have beech who had a crack and wasn't up to it hamptons injured as is cheney and lynch. Wigg appears vanilla Doedee can't kick as he proved today, there is no way keath is ready he got pantsed by eddy today, so do you have any other ideas

All those players you mentioned are our future.
They need games into them while we are travelling well and pick up the speed of the AFL game.
How in hell do you know if Wigg is vanilla? A player who touches the ball that many times a game and goes and finds it isn't timid or lacks substance. He bust his balls every week and at least deserves a chance. That is all I'm saying, once that opportunity presents then judge him on the game results from the AFL.

Doedee misses a couple of targets and all of a sudden he can't kick (and isn't Burton). Ever watched some of Dangerfield's kicking or Mackay and Atkins miss multiple targets.
Doedee is a great intercept mark and a fine reader of the ball and a satisfactory kick to take the next step. For some unknown reason the selectors have not afforded him an opportunity yet.
Doedee could emulate Jake Kelly who plays hard and doer and is a good kid but is so timid with his disposal that on 90% of his kicks he choose the safe short option. Good luck to Kelly he realises his limitations but the moment Doedee tried and failed to move the ball on in an attacking fashion in the SANFL he's labelled by some as 'can't kick.' That by the way is a crock of sh*t!
Casboult is a poor kick,(he's improved), Doedee is a more than adequate kick who will learn his limitation and with experience become better and more attacking.
Gallucci is definitely in line for another 'crack' as he brings in speed, tackles hard, breaks lines and doesn't hesitate when it's his turn to be physical.

Posters on here aren't anti Crows or anti Pyke they've just seen this film before. In truth they are the passionate ones who crave success and verbalise that want.
Being top of the ladder demonstrates we are a competent football team. The goal of the home and away season is firstly win enough games to play finals but as importantly prepare the squad to win in September.
Last year we played injured and fatigued players come finals and failed... we just don't want to see that again.
Build our depth, give young players game time so they're not overwhelmed when called upon and better player management our top flight players (Jacobs) so they're fresh when coming into finals.
Give AFL opportunities to the whole squad when earned so we retain those young players at the AFC instead of them looking for alternate teams to further their careers.

The AFC is a good club but it is by no means perfect and I could write a thesis about all the wrongs I perceive.
As we are top of the table you run the risk of being viewed as being unappreciative, antagonistic or ill informed which is not the intention... we want to win!
The ultimate judgement will come finals time if we have planned properly.

I personally
would like to see some readjustments made through the remainder of the season to
better prepare us for the finals and ensure we keep this squad together past this year.

Our future us now that is how the afl has created the comp 4 years we need to bottom out simple as that unless you want to remain competitive

Are you saying because casboult can't kick it's ok for Doedee not to be able to kick FFS that's why casboult will never be Kennedy he can't effing kick and it wasn't the first time I've seen Doedees poor disposal at least last time it was to the benefit of Glenelg so I'm not totally unhappy with his poor disposal

As for Wigg he reminds of beech tbh

Gooch is developing he's maybe a month away with consistent results and a bit more influence at SANFL level

At lot will hate me for this comment, but its 100% the truth.

Unless we have injuries we should not be trying to blood any more youth at this point in the season. The youth we have put through and given exposure to is fine but what is left will not improve our flag chances as their talent is one that needs to be nurtured at AFL level and isnt natural.

We are a real shot at a flag this year. All focus must be put on this.

This is why I loved Greenwood being rested. Shows a commitment by the club that he is a part of our plans for September. Milera will have a week off soon as well.

Pies at G is a danger game. In fact most of our games finishing the season look dangerous. I would play Jenkins more in ruck in games like that rather than leaving Sauce out all together. Sauce still looks like he is running on top of the ground to me.

Unless they put the cue in the rack which is why I suggested it, their season looks shot

We have used the least amount of players in the league this season, it was the same last year. We had an issue with not resting players last year and with not trying out replacement players, the result was that in round 23 and the finals we were playing a number of injured players which largely contributed to the side missing a shot at the flag. I don't want the same thing to happen this year.

Reckon toms decision making needs work too, which makes his kicking look worse. I'm led to believe that is what they are working on more than anything

He's MUCH better 1v1 than Kelly, and Jake is pretty good.

Getting ourselves in the best position at a flag this year has to be no 1 priority first. That means securing a top 2 spot on the ladder. Not one of our games in the run home lends itself to being a game where top players can be rested. If we have secured top 2 spot before rd 23's game against West Coast then I'd say yes lets rest a few.

If we can afford to play a useless Thompson, or a sometimes useless David Mackay, we can afford to play a Doedee or Gallucci. I mean christ we have been pumping games into Milera and he has been almost invisible in a lot of games this season.

Call it what ever you like if he thinks he is under pressure in the SANFL wait to he hits the big league

Those errors are magnified at the top level

He needs the rest of the year and another preseason and he may make an impact next year

The problem with Tom is he was picked as a first rounder and has a first rounder expectations if he was picked as a third he would be tracking about right

Not saying I told you so but he was worth a third

Cameron is probably another example of bringing a player back in when we shouldn't.

He wasn't in good form before his weak off, he was terrible on Friday (and did look disinterested); he should be dropped this week.

But how often are we bringing players in and dropping them after a single game, already?

Seriously we need to develop a sidestep with MacKay, because if he learns how to baulk/step players then he'll be very very useful. He's always in the right spots and presents as an option for link up play but...no side step costs him a lot of the time.
Surely our midfield coach would have worked this out by now?

If he was always in the right spot, he'd get more than 20 touches on a regular basis.

A sidestep isn't going to address his weaknesses; he's just not good enough.

Excellent post.

For all of the talk of 'learnings' - we seem intent on making the same mistakes again.

We know who isn't up to it in finals - why the **** are we wasting games on them?

Which is why we need to get games into potential quality players NOW.

We all know Thommo is finished.
Mackay is mediocre and has failed in final series after final series.
Douglas has fallen off of a cliff - he was horrible last year, and has continued in that vein this year.

We won't win a flag carrying 2-4 passengers; who have proven time and time again that they can't get it done when it matters.

The sooner we drop them, the sooner we can get games into Galluci, Wigg, Polkhorne.

Who knows, 3 early draft picks, they might actually thrive and IMPROVE our team.

The Perrenial failures, we know they aren't good enough - the guys above; maybe one of them is up to it.

We actually need to play them to find out.

He cannot match 22 disposals 4 tackles 4 clearances and 4 inside 50s a game in 2017.
Of Douglas' 22 how many actually had an impact??

We wouldn't lose a great deal by dropping him for Gooch or Poholke. However there's a few before him

You like making posts confrontational don't you.

Wasn't even having a crack at you get you get your back up.

Wow did u see him finally throw a player around like a rag doll. Lol well it wasn't that great it was the smallest player in the afl. Daniels!!! Great work dmac.....
If only he'd been playing in the 1300's when everyone was 5'2"..
Likely had been our ruckman.

I'm saying Doedee can kick...I don't agree with your assessment I've seen him as well.
No player whoever kicks at 100% and so Glenelg benefited from a bad kick big deal, it doesn't verify your claim.
Wigg I'm saying needs a chance, I'll assess his worth after he's played AFL. The truth is he's earned the chance at SANFL by consistent results and influencing games at SANFL level.
A player with Gooch's attributes would improve our team now and be good for his development.

You keep chirpy on about us being top of the table as proof everything is well.
Adelaide has never bottomed out and we are competitive and will remain competitive if we keep our depth players, and players we've invested time into (and Lever).

The reason Adelaide hasn't won a premiership IMO is in part due to decisions made by Adelaide.
Tippett... self inflicted loss of four draft picks and Tippett himself.( not getting in an argument on Tippett.)
In hindsight weak trading with Dangerfield deal.
Poor player assessment eg. Thompson in lieu of Lyons.
Stubborn coaching selections and list management such as Thommo last year, Jenkins injury and Jacobs fatigue.
Neil Craig suffered from the same affliction.
Our inability to change our game style or selections for specific games...use of taggers and setting up differently for Geelong/Hawthorn.
Lack of opportunities to young developing player meant they left..Dunston
Trigg's poor tenure did the club no favours and was caustic.

The whole Walsh tragedy also certainly took an effect.

I've gone off track completely, it's all in my previous post.
We are tracking fine, my point, we do have more options to improve our squad with a few players who are showing something but they need an opportunity and those in poor form need to be dropped. We need to plan for the final and beyond.
