They picked Van Berlo for just one game last year in near identical circumstances
No, they didn't. VB played 3 games last year. He was dropped immediately after embarrassing himself in R1, he then returned for two games in the middle of the year - the last 2 games of his AFL career. If we're using the VB precedent, then Thompson will play against Melbourne.

I think Greenwood will return, replacing Thommo.

In - Out
Greenwood - Thompson - No brainer with Thommo playing his last AFL game. Thanks for the memories.
Seedsman - Milera - needs to be managed to freshen up & bring back.
Gallucci - Cameron - to get his head right as we need him back in form.
I like your changes, and I agree with the reasoning behind them. I just can't see them making 3 unforced changes to a team that won by 10 goals.

OUT: Thompson, Douglas
IN: Greenwood, Seedsman

Reasoning; Thompson, self explanatory.
Douglas, rule of depreciating returns, our team looked tired last post season, we need to start to giving older players a rest and Douglas would be more tired then Mackay considering the inside and outside work he's done this year. Seedsman isn't like for like but is ready to come in and would allow us to push Milera out in a week who is not doing nearly enough for me on that wing.

Fingers crossed Riley O'Brien comes into the SANFL this week cause Sauce is going to need a freshen up soon as well, he will be one of our most important players come finals.

Was very interesting to hear that Seedsman was sick last week and hence the poor numbers.

When (I think it was Teague) said this, it kind of sounded like they knew this was the case and didn't expect him to play well. To me that means they said, look your sick but still play as we need to get the run into your legs regardless of how you play. i.e. they would rather sacrifice his game output for fast tracking his match fitness so his AFL return wasn't pushed back a week or 2.

With good numbers yesterday I think he is a in.

In: Greenwood, Seed
Out: Thommo, Milera (could also be DMac, Cameron, Douglas but I think Milera will be the one)

If Brown doesn't pull up well then Doedee gets a gig. Kelly's game hurts him as a poor game from Kelly could have seen that change. I think Kelly knew this and pleasingly responded to that selection pressure which is a great trait. Shows the benefit of depth pushing for a spot but also a real good sign for Kelly and his resolve, the type of response that gives you more confidence a player is up to an increase in pressure like a final brings (although his disposal in that context still worries me)

This looks around the mark for me (and the Doedee/Brown swap if injured).

Milera looks in need of a rest, Seedsman looked good on the weekend and Thompson is done.

All the indigenous boys will play in Darwin.
Why? It's not as if any of our indigenous players come from the NT, or even have ties to the NT. We don't have any Riolis, or Tipingwutis on our list. Darwin is no more significant for our indigenous players than playing in Perth or Brisbane.

We must win this game. 6 day break vs 8 day break, they have key injuries in Viney and Jones. If we don't win we can say goodbye to this season IMO.
Yeah, I mean even though the teams on top of the ladder, its probably best to throw in the towel with 6 weeks to go if we lose.... On a side note, you should take up motivational speaking

Except Curtly Hampton

Yep this is a must win if we want top 2, even this far out; and we shouldn't need motivation after they handed us our arses in a hand basket last time round.

Top of the ladder but we were flogged in the 2nd quarter by the Dogs. Lost contested ball and clearences by a fair way. You realise finals are a much different beat to the Home and Away? In any case, being negative about our flag chances is helping me be far more relaxed about footy. See it far too often in the last 19 years to get too excited.

Out Charlie Cameron
In Jordan Gallucci
Reasoning : Charlie has had no impact in the last three games and his defensive side non existent...lack of effort and desire to impact. Refresh and see how he responds. Does he want to play and have an impact in finals or just wasting everyones expectation of him to be a match winner ! Gallucci deserves to have another run to see his development this year.
Out Thompson
In Hugh Greenwood
Reasoning : A no brainer but unfortunately for Thommo the time to adjust to the pace of AFL as opposed to SANFL pace cannot be provided as we do not have sufficient time to allow that.
Out Milera ( Rest )
IN Seedsman
Reasoning : Milera has had minimal impact over the last three games and looks as though he needs a break and recharge. Seedsman has experience and run and flexibility of half back/wing that might be invaluable in September. See how he is going
On notice :
Mackay disposal efficiency is killing him but his run and carry is important and Seedsman could replace when Milera comes back in !
Jacobs due to for week off as he needs time to rechrge for finals as the last two tears has hit a brick wall and had been ineffectual from about round 18 onwards . Clarke the ruck coach needs to vary the centre square setup for finals as we have teams clearing the ball from our hitouts in the centre repeatedly. Interesting the setup and who mans Petracca in centre this week as he slaughtered us last game with 9 possessions and 6 centre clearances and we stood by and watched !
We are winning ugly but we are still winning and all that matters is that we secure top 2 for this year. Aim for the minor premiership and then assess where we go from their. We are in good shape with depth and leading into finals will have some testing games ; Melbourne, Geelong, Port, Swans to get a real picture on where we sit in our ambitions to be AFL 2017 Premiers

That just shows me we won in a different way. We've won contested footy and clearances and lost the game's this season as well. I'm as skeptical as the next guy when it comes to deep September runs, i'm just saying hanging the fate of the season on this weeks game is extreme.

O'Brien has been injured

Would Dear be ready if needed?

Pretty much agree on all points, I would probably give Charlie another week, the kids young and coming off a bung wrist which can play havoc with your grip (Ball handling/ tackle pressure). Also I know this wasn't really your main point but I thought we won pretty convincingly for 3 quarters on friday night. The second half of the second quarter got ugly, but the rest of the game was a powerful performance.

I'm almost shocked Cameron's is that high.

and this is the attitude that will cost us, just like it has before.
I can see them making 2 changes this week. I would be very surprised if they made 3, unless there are injuries we don't know about.

I think Greenwood will replace Thommo. Even the most ardent of Thommo supporters has to admit that he's cooked after Friday night's performance. He gave away almost as many frees as he had disposals himself. I love what he's done for the club, but the time has come for him to hang up the boots.

I think Cameron will be given some time away from the club, probably replaced by Gallucci or (more likely) Seedsman. Cameron's problem isn't ability, and I don't think it's confidence - I think there's something weighing on his mind off the field, and we're not going to see the best of him until he gets that sorted out. Whatever it is.

I think we'll see one of Gallucci & Seedsman named on Thursday - but not both.
