I guess that it can be hard to change a team from an 80 point win but very disappointed that Jones didn't come straight in

Think he is a player we are desperate for, has had awful luck with injuries for years, had an incredible preseason. I think if he is fit we need to give him games. I would have played him over Hynes probably but it's a strong 23 regardless

Adelaide board concerned about Thilthorpe ruckimg . Not sure if its because they're concerned he'll get an injury or isn't mich chop as a ruck.

He is 201cm and very good at protecting the drop of the ball. I dont see the issue as Darcy is our second ruck.

English struggled with the bounce last year ,as the Adelaide ruck (O'Brien?) was much better at reading the bounce & getting his big arse to protect the drop of the ball. But when the ball was thrown uo , English thrived. I watched English closely that game as it was during a period we were all down on him.

Suggestions on the Adelaide board that O'Brien is still working his way back, from injury? Good result for us. Let's win the stoppage & win the game.

Nicks said on 360 mid week that ROB has trained jumping at the ball in years and so needs to learn it again

Crows look really small in defence, especially without Murray.

Arty just had to come in, that’s pretty poor but I guess we have to back in the coaches.

He played there all of last year. I think he is very capable there. Early in his career there was suggestions he would become a better ruck than a forward

ROB is generally someone who has a high TOG, wonder if the worry is that McAndrew won't be able to play the same amount of minutes and Thilthorpe will have to play closer to 25-30% of TOG in the ruck. Concern could just be about not having two rucks. Don't think any team has really worked out the best way to use the fifth interchange player, there probably isn't any need to have five runners coming off the bench. Think the best use for it so far has been either using it for a second ruck (we sort have had that against the Giants with Lewis playing limited minutes) or teams using it similarly to a sub, one of the games I watched Papley barely came on in the first half and then was fresh to run out the second half

Because when he's rucking he's not in the forward line. It's just a waste of resources. Also has the capability to pinch hit as an on baller.

That was the ruck Murray that went out. Still have Nick Murray and Butts playing with Worrell as third tall (all listed at 195cm) with Michelanney for the medium types. They do miss Hinge who has become a solid player as another who can play on the mediums and allow others to roam

We have Darcy as second ruck, but we're pretty fortunate in that English is an iron horse of endurance

It's unfortunate if I'm being dispassionate , there's an art to his style of rucking suddenly taken away .

Bev must have thought all his Christmases came at once with the rule change.

Am i the only one who doesn't get it with Arty Jones?
I'm not fully convinced either. Not many AFL players in the modern era have had a 50+% TOG game for literally 0 disposals like Artie has.

But it makes sense as a point of difference. He's the only goalsneak with agility and boundless energy we have on our list. He offers value via different means than anyone else. He offers variety and complexity to out forward line, and the best version of Artie balances and works off the skills of our other forwards, which is why people "see it".

Arty won't be the first player to get injured and then fail to be recalled due to the team playing supremely well in his absence. I certainly hope he isn't the last either.

Arty turned the corner the second half of the year for Footscray last year. For me it was confidence that he belonged. He was doing all the things you want from a small forward. Cracked a few games at the end and did well. He was a standout in both preseason games. Personally, I would have brought him straight back in yet not a big deal. He is a vital cog in the modern game of getting back in defense and streaming forward on turnover.
