Walker frustrates as much as the next person but i am not sure dropping him will help our cause. We need someone to kick too and Freeman has been hopeless in reserves - he doesn't deserve to be promoted. What's more McStay has talent but is lazy and only wants to do the flashy stuff. Also if you watch closely how often do we kick it to Walker one out. He always has 3 blokes hanging off his back. Least he makes a contest and brings the ball to the ground - we didn't have this option last year and we were crying out for someone to do that.

Agree I think we bring in Freeman and have 3 tall forwards get some off Walkers back for a change.
Remember Freeman kicked his most against the Pies!

Keays was announced on a Wednesday so probably then?
I think Schache was a little earlier in the week due to being an interstate kid. I guess the logistics are a bit more time sensitive when it comes to getting the family up etc. They might make a call fairly soon after the strength and conditioning team get a good look at Rocky.

This 'Merrett no hygiene' thing is in the same league as other recent Lions board bigfooty memes, like 'Aisho Restraint of trade' and some of those great lines by Pinskier.
The guy has gone down twice with gastro in 7 weeks, this time Sache his flatmate was also suffering from a mild dose of the same ailment but was able to play on, albeit under the weather.

HELLO!! Am I the only one seeing a pattern of behaviour here? Or are some of you guys going to continue to make excuses for these guys. These guys have a duty to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle, personal hygiene is part of that. Merret is a key player and pulling out at the last moment let us down badly. we didn't even have time to fly a replacement down like Paine for instance.

At a very minimum the club needs to investigate this and put measures in place if required.

More like they knew he was crook and gave him right up to via last minute. Paine was never going to be his replacement.
Your hygiene theory seems to be falling on deaf ears. Quit whilst your behind mate.

And I repeat:

Hadn't heard that. Where was that from?

That's reasonable.

Claiming gastro is inherently avoidable by maintaining personal hygiene, OTOH, is ridiculous as pointed out by plenty of other posters, as is claiming that having gastro is letting people down.

I can't imagine there will be major changes, we simply don't have the depth. Walker is terrible, but no one is deserving of replacing him. Don't know what Freeman's issue is, thought he showed signs in the seniors, but can barely get a touch in the ressies.

OUT: Rockliff, McStay, C. Beams
IN: Green, Merrett, Taylor

Shift Hanley to half back. Would drop Mayes for Cutler when/if he's fit too. Would like to see Keays a bit more in the midfield. Seems willing to get hands dirty. Matho can't be too far off either. Must say I'm really happy with who we picked up in the draft this year.

Why not try Hipwood? Sure he's light but he will give you an honest effort and at least contest. (unlike Walker recently) His work rate around the ground is at AFL standard. Worth thinking about IMO.

OUT = Rockliff, Walker, Gardiner
IN = Green, Taylor, Merrett

I said it last week and I still think the same - Walker should come out of the side. He is in very poor form at the moment and is a liability out there. McStay to go forward and play a chop out role in the ruck when necessary. It will be a difficult / thankless task, but it is time for McStay to toughen up - we need to put our faith in a smaller forward line based around McStay, Lester, Bewick with Taylor and Green coming in to help Keays in the tackling / harassing roles.

I don't think we can carry both Merrett and Gardiner in our team, nor can we have all of Andrews, Merrett, Paparone and Gardiner on our backline at the one time. IMO Gardiner has to come out - despite the effort he puts in, his skills, decision making and free kicks he gives away means he is not giving us a lot of upside. All of those characteristics can be applied to Merrett - however Merrett's experience and his potential for game winning defensive efforts gives him the edge.

At the moment our midfield is a huge problem - but it is also an area where we don't have much room to move given it is where all our experience is (if you drop experienced players from the youngest team in the league, then in all likelihood we will just make things worse). Having said that, at some stage Claye Beams may well have to make way for Rich or Hanley to play half back so we can bring Mathieson straight into the centre rotations.

Don't understand the hate for Walker at all.

He's part of the reason Shache looks good... he presents a target to take defenders away from him. I could count the times on one hand he's been given a decent delivery one out in all the games we've played this year. His work around the ground presenting as a target on the wings is as good as any one else in the team. He's suffering the same problem Brown did towards the end... a midfield not delivering the way any forward would want them too.

To be honest it's hard to make changes in the team when everyone was so poor bar Martin. Changing anyone out would be seen as scapegoating but something has got to change.

Matho and Robbo might not be the cleanest or the most skillful but we are seriously missing aggression. Maybe that alone see's those boys come in this week.

Walker plays. He creates a contest but it's hard when our mids are getting absolutely destroyed in every facet of the game but when we do manage to get our hands on it we can't hit the side of a barn let alone kick to the advantage of our forwards.

Out: Rockliff, C Beams, Walker, Harwood
In: Matho, Taylor, Green, Merrett

Ive seen enough of Harwood & C Beams to know they aren't a part of our best 22 (certainly as backs)

Rich & Hanley should be played off HB. Our team will be encouraged to spread on rebounds when they get their hands on the ball.

Matho to play alongside Beams ASAP

McStay up forward with Walker a spell in the ressies to find some touch

New kid, gastro happens. That's predictable.

Paine is (1) not on the emergency list, so we'd have to cop a fine to bring him in and (2) currently on the rookie list, so ineligible for senior selection and we don't have the list space to promote him.

Comments made on ABC radio suggested Simon Black also missed the game on Sunday with same issues as Rog.

...waits with interest for additional ColdWarWarrior quackery.

Spot on Mate. His job is just to make a contest and hopefully drag defenders away from Schachey.
