True. But we have had some picks in the teens, right around where some other players have been picked up and have had immediate impact (and a few have been West Aussies which grates).

We also traded away picks in the teens for mature age players of dubious value.

I'd add that the very best sides are often the ones that nail the crap shoot better than others, at least in a year or two. You need that draft that adds 3-4 genuine top end players for the core of a really good team I reckon.

So, Eagles strategy going forward should be, when they choose someone to select, they shouldn't select them, they should select some better?

Indeed. Which is my point. We are either shit at drafting or poor at development and we aren't great at trading when it comes to our first rounders....

would make zero sense why we spent a first round pick on a mid size forward.

That's the clubs plan I believe, turn him into Dangerfield.

Also Willie into Cyril+, Duggan into Gary Ablett, sheed into Simon Black and cole into Enright.

I've been calling for Cripps to be player through the guts for ages coz not only does he have top end pace, tackling ability and can use the footy, he has a bit of burst speed as well. He would help speed up our pedestrian midfield no end.

The problem is he has no midfield game and can't find the ball. He was the loose player a lot when Kennedy was being double teamed and he still couldn't get it.

It's frustrating because he does have all the tools to be a damaging midfielder!

I disagree, he's gone through there at times and done well, he just doesn't get used there much.
