Actually we played him as the sub in the vast majority of his early games. And made a prelim that year.
Only 6 games as sub in 2011, holding his spot after rd 8. In the games where he wasn't started as the sub (11), he averaged 22 disposals including a particularly good stretch of form from rd 17 - 21. He wasn't disgraced during the prelim, finishing with 23 touches. He did had the benefit of those early sub games, but it shows these kids can come in and make a difference (given that not every rookie is as skilled as Gaff).

I think we might be at a tipping point late in the season where a couple of skilled youngsters might be an improvement on the limitations that all of Redden, Hutchings & PMac place on our setup; our midfield has such a reliance on too few, and the low numbers these mature players are generating is really hurting our linkup and run.

I know you're just arguing against giving everyone a debut, and I agree, but we do need to test our depth yet again. Even more important with Nic hopefully returning in the next few weeks that we find our best line-up.

I'd like to see Sheed back for Redden if he's deemed fit (hard to tell if we were wrapping him in cotton wool during that bath on Saturday, or if he'd pulled up sore), Giles to take over from Brown, and Nelson for Hutchings. Hopefully, that leaves us with Karpany and Adamson banging the door down, and sees Hutch and Redden out to turn it around.

Need to get mcginnity out as well. Maybe bring duggan

I'm sure there's nothing more that our selection committee want, and against Melbourne we might have the luxury, but if someone's going to get 10 touches then at least Paddy's will be hard-earned, and his physicality will influence the contest. I can see room for PMac (if we feel we need the bigger bodies). Duggan hurts you more, but his numbers in the WAFL have been poor and he needs to put it together.

Give Karpany a crack
I actually dont mind that

We actually dont need hardness. Its all about intent. North game is a perfect example of it. Duggan was poor but even when he is average he still contributes a bit. Also duggan is hard. So many times i have seen him underpack digging the ball out or laying a solid tackle on an opponent. I rather see us give games to our kids or to our recruits like jetta or redden.

FB Sheppard, Mackenzie, Schofield
HB Butler, Barrass, Hurn
C Gaff, Redden, Masten
HF Hill, McGovern, Darling
FF LeCras, Kennedy, Jetta
FOL Lycett, Priddis, Shuey
I/C Yeo, Wellingham, Cripps, Sheed

In: Jetta, Mackenzie, Sheed
Out: Hutchings, Brown, McGinnity

  1. Time to bite the bullet and play Gov forward and bring back Ezy (with small doses of ruck until NN is back). Barrass has been great playing in a similar style to Gov and I'm confident he can provide enough intercept marking.
  2. Masten/Hill/Jetta to rotate wing/HF/FP - all have the skills, pace, tank for this to work, and I feel Jetta would be really useful in the forward line.
  3. We can't play all 3 of Priddis/Redden/Hutchings in the same team (esp with Sheed coming back as another inside mid). Give Redden a go in the middle to show why he was brought over.
  4. LeCras stay at home FP, maybe even stints one out in the square?
  5. It was good while it lasted Ginners, but Sheed is Best 22 and now fit.

Guess it comes down to who the coaches see as having greater value for these last 10 weeks. I definitely see Duggan coming back in soon, but we're leaning towards rewarding form; increased output in the WAFL will help press his claims.

After thinking we had turned the corner against Norths (admittedly they aren't playing the best either) I again lost all confidence after the Blues clash.
It's time to start to solidify our team before finals.
Sure McGinnity played 1 good game and Brown has served a purpose but I don't see them in a Grand Final team.

Out: McGinnity, Brown, Schofield
In: Nelson, Giles, Emac

Redden moves into Mcginnity's role, Emac For Schofield and let Giles take the #1 ruck role with Lycett as the usual back-up like he would usually play with Nic in the team. Nelson for some grunt through the middle, don't know the numbers and will probably get proven wrong but it looked like we got thrashed in the centre when Carlton got on a roll.
Sheed gets another week with EP

Sheed has to come in this week.

Who would of thought we have the talent of Jetta Sheed Duggan Ellis Mckenzie in the WAFL

And we are playing spuds like. Mcginnity Hutchings Redden

Time to get the talent in Simmo

Not sure why everyone wants sheed to come in. He only had 10 touches. How would the other players feel in the wafl if he gets a game after that?
I'm with you on this one...Being rewarded for not breaking a tag doesn't set a good example in my eyes.

Although I understand the desire to get more time into the likes of him and Duggan at AFL level I'm a big believer in rewarding form.

Breaking a tag is a whole new ball game. Can take young player's years to learn how to cope with a tag. He won't get tagged at AFL level yet anyway,

To be honest, I don't know how many times he has copped a tag at WAFL level.
If he's going to start getting tagged regularly now, I actually like to leave him in the WAFL and see how he learns from that.
He's one of our great white hopes for our midfield, I think it would be better for his development at this stage and see how he grows.

That being said, he does need regular exposure at AFL level but this must be a reward through good form in my eyes. (or at least improvement)

Rewarding WAFL form is really working for us.......

Just pick the best team FFS Sheed is the type of player that will play better in a AFL team with more skill around him than Scrapping away in the WAFL let's leave that for McGinnity and Hutchings

Have to get our best Midfield talent in so they can start to get a bit of Cohesion together

If he's fit he should play

I can understand that but I'd still like to see Adamson get a run and see how how goes.

I would too Simmo has said if he keeps getting 30s he will give him a run. Hopefully he plays a huge game this weekend and forces Simmo's hand to play him.
Think he needs another 2-3 good games, and probably at least one in decent conditions.
