True but thats not bad spelling. That's typos, bloody autocorrect by using the I pad.

I'm lazy, rushed and not overly fussed with changing my errors.
Blame the blue fiancée bargains.

I'm fine with a straight LJ for Tex swap. Porps back as a forward would be OK too. They do have a few options available. I do actually like the idea of bring Otten down to FF and bring in Luke Thompson to replace him down back.

Can't see this happening but would be interested to see Luke Thompson come in at CHB and Talia tried at FF.
I think Talia played as a forward before we drafted him didn't he?.

What tripe is this?

Sloane (23) and Dangerfield (23) should be carrying out team week in, week out? How about some of our 24-32 year olds?

Oh, I forgot. They're mostly garbage.

Leaders
Reilly
Douglas
Mackay
Vince

All get off scot free. Zero responsibility, zero criticism. It's not their "role" to be good players.

C'mon Danger and Sloane, just get 30+ every week and non-stop Brownlow votes. That's how we'll WIN

So you don't think that Sloane and Danger should be carrying this team because they are 23? They are both leaders of the club had outstanding seasons last year and finished 5th and 27th in the Brownlow. They are both considered elite and are not performing at that level.

We had 5 players listed in Sheehan's top 30 - Jacobs (27), Sloane (26), Thommo (20), Walker (8), Dangerfield (3). I don't think anyone can argue that along with Talia/Truck these are our most talented pand important players. Perhaps I am being a bit harsh on Sloane, but these 5 guys just are not performing up to their 2012 standard and potential and as a result we are 2-3 and are yet to play a finals team from 2012.

You can keep bringing up Mackay / Vince / Douglas / Reilly / Petrenko et al - but these guys have never been more than contributors to our side (excluding an 10 week period in 2009) . They have never been considered elite players, nor will they ever be.

The #1 reason we are 2-3 and playing like shit is because our star players are not playing up to the levels they can and were last year.

It would be nice if Dangerfield was living up to his potential and getting 30 touches every week... But hang on no 23 year old could do that *cough* Trent Cotchin *cough*.

In 2012 - Danger had 9 of his 25 games with 23 or fewer possessions. So he had 24 or more possessions in 16 games (65% of his games). In 2013 - he is yet to get more than 24 possessions in all 5 of his games.

How this isn't a huge issue for a team that is getting smashed in the middle every week, i will never know.

Riiigggght, so there's no correlation between GC/Melbourne/GWS having the youngest & least experienced teams - and their complete inability to be competitive against any but the worst teams in the competition?

Melbourne get a dishonorable mention, because their inept coaching (frequently directed to lose by the instructions from board level) haven't helped their cause either.

Of course there's a correlation. As players get older they get stronger physically and more consistent in their output. By the time they get to the age of 25 most of them have survived the weeding process - they either have 150+ games, or they've been delisted. The end result is that these teams generally perform at a much higher level than those with younger & less experienced age profiles. There is a very strong correlation at work here.

The upside of playing kids is that they learn and develop, progressing to become the mature talent which keeps the AFL alive. The downside is that they are frequently inconsistent and more easily pushed off the ball, beaten by larger and older players. Kerridge's game is a classic example - last week he had 14 disposals, this week he had 3. Next week he'll probably have 16 or 18 - that's the inconsistency and excitement that comes with playing the kids.

I largely agree, but think the final conclusion is a bit weak

Clearly age profile has an effect, it just does. But I think its more than just distribution and average, what matters is the quality of the mature bods.

Its not that the low end is young, its how much you get from your heavy lifters.

The more young guys, the more weight the top players carry. how much can your guys carry?

Roo reckons he'd be considering playing Luke Thompson.....make of that what you will!!!

I suggested it earlier in the thread. Hawthorn have an extremely tall defense, plus I suspect the club were quite impressed with Ottens game up forward. He looked to be a natural playing our forward line "structure", although his set shot technique was a little lacking.

I think we might see Otten with his strong marking and lateral movement head up our forward line this week with Jenkins and McKernan in support. Hence another 3rd tall defender will need to be brought in and that would be Luke Thompson.

Unfortunately for Lewis Johnston, I think he misses out again.

Hi guys, what has happened to Petrenko, he was a machine before his shoulder injury last year and now it seems most want him dropped. Is it effort or is he hampered by his shoulder?

So you're not cutting Danger any slack for the fact he is carrying a knee injury?

I am saying his performance is waaaay below what he is capable of producing as shown by his 2012 form.

You go out there - you are 100%. Players carry injuries all the time and perform. Is Jacobs carrying an injury? I would assume the majority of AFL players aren't 100%.

I am not suggesting we drop him (unless his knee injury can heal quickly). Nor am I suggesting he isn't talented. What I am saying is that his drop off in form from 2012 - 2013 (along with Jacobs/Walker/Sloane/Thompson) is the #1 reason why we are 2-3 against pretty average competition.
