Barlow was one of our best v Adelaide when played in his proper role.

Not sure what's going on but it's certainly not about winning. Not sure that the club hierarchy know what's going on either.

Wasn't long ago we were a "no excuse" football team, now we've got a list as long as your arm.
Barlow and Dawson are in their 30s. Langdon's 20 and Clarke and Pearce are mid-ish 20s. I recon it's age.

Going down to Tassie this weekend is just sounding like a really stupid ide
Lol... How low can our percentage go? The team + this clown + Tasmania... The perfect storm.
At least if we accidentally win a game this season, it'll still be hard for another team to poach our #1 draft pick

One small mercy is not having to put up the usual 'Cyril Rioli new-arseh*le-tearing show', although his circumstances appear to be a little unfortunate.

Fremantle has a fine balancing act now for the rest of the season in regards to changes. Ross alluded to this in a presser a few weeks ago.

He preached about giving effort. That's fair enough. The club needs to be mindful that playing youth is one thing, but gifting games and cutting servants could lead to some troubling times in many ways.

I'm not sure how they will do it to a level which pleases all. It's impossible.

I don't mind the dropping of any player, if the communication has been delivered fairly and the relationship remains strong.

I also think once you drop a player there needs to be a few weeks spent at WAFL level. Not a drop 1 week come back in the next rotation that seems to be going on.

I thought he was ok last week without being in our best ... in our top seven or eight certainly. I actually thought you gave him an HM in the votes thread and said he was good but apologies in advance if I have mistaken you with someone else! What I have liked is his tackling. While tackling alone isn't enough to save his bacon, Neale, Hill, Pearce and our other mids have been pretty poor in that regard this year. Look for an all-time tackling low this weekend.

I think I did give him an HM actually. Can't say I think his game was overly poor last week though the way I said it in the post suggested that. I was more making the point that, relative to the two previous weeks, he wasn't as noticeably good.

It's hard to know what the full gamut of instructions, KPI's etc. are expected. Perhaps there were some defensive positioning issues or other lapses that have disturbed Ross. Hard to tell. Certainly surprised me he was dropped. Reminds me of Mzungu last couple of years. The guy seemed to be in the game for much of it, racked up some decent numbers and would find himself down at Peel the following week. Very similar feel.

And that's where Ross loses his credibility. Despite limited game time, Barlow has been by far our most prolific tackler this year - not sure what's wrong with the other mids but they usually look incapable of doing so hence how easily it's been taken out of the centre by opposition for longish periods with us giving up multiple consecutive goals. People will buy Ross's spin about effort but for the first time ever probably, I think he is full of shit on the 'effort' line.

Dawson only turned 30 this year and Barlow turns 30 at the end of next year, I don't think age has anything to do with it.
Fair enough. I just couldn't find any other compelling reason. Barlow's been pretty good recently, especially in comparison to some others. I thought his game in Adelaide was terrific. I'm not down on the decision - good on them for actually making some big calls. Who know? We could win this which sparks a run of 15 wins in a row, make finals, wins all of them (all away) and hold up the cup in a fairytale season people will talk about for 100 years... and then I woke up.

I'm glad they're resting Pav though. Need to manage him for finals, or his retirement, or something.. actually that makes no sense either. Carry on.

Yeah there's much to play out and most of us aren't privy to what is asked of individuals. Perhaps it's a training thing. Perhaps he leads tackles because he's not winning his share of clearances. Maybe he was given a month.

I have no idea, but it is why I wrote the post. Although some have been calling for Barlow to be dropped I'd have him behind many others. Maybe his effort isn't to the level Ross is asking.

I'm a massive Zac hater, but even he has done not much wrong considering his limitations. I'm all for the changes as we simply need to take this route and venture into some of the unknown.

How that plays out on a week to week basis? Well the harmony and values preached will be tested unless Ross steers this ship right.

If the shortest distance is to go through some storms I just hope the crew are with him. If you cut some decent crew trying to make a point... well you could just lose control of the ship.

Suban still in. Mitchell named for Hawthorn. Come on Subes, come out swinging and do the comp a favour. Mitchell out with a broken jaw; Suban suspended for 5 weeks. Win/win situation.
Suban knocked brad Sheppard out in the derby by kneeing Sheppards jaw. Suban was not reported. Suban could do a liam hurrah and attack half the Hawks side with a machete and the umpire will not report him

God knows how Hughes Ibbo & Pearce x 2 are gonna hold Sicily, Obrien, celglar & Gunston. Big height diff
Not a huge height difference. None of them are over 193cm, except Ceglar.

Ceglar (204cm), O'Brien (193cm), Gunston (193cm), Sicily (186cm)

APearce (200cm+), Hughes (190cm), Ibbo (186cm), Sheridan (187cm)

Ibbo giving up a couple of inches but he's played on these guys before and has done fine. Hughes has grown to 190cm+ since his height was last updated I think. I guess we'll see on the day but if we put pressure on upfield a smaller agile guy can take someone a bit taller fine.

Agree, I think a bigger problem is up the other end. I just can't see where our goals will come from.

Yes very true. I'm assuming by magic. Hopefully our mids and half forwards have a licence to launch from outside 50 or to run it in. Maybe we'll kick low and flat rather than high bombs to give our many smalls a chance on the ground? Griff, Clarke and Tabs will need to provide as targets inside 50 more than they have so far this season.

This reminds me of "that" game against Adelaide.

Long time ago but we went through the entire week wondering who our KPPs would be for that game and I think we all knew a massive loss was coming. We just didn't think it'd be that bad.

If Taberner kicks our only goal and gets dropped like Ryan Murphy did I'll lose it. He's one of only two genuine KPPs (not including our two rucks who are useless elesewhere).

It's going to be a tough week. I'm not sure playing with this few KPPs is ever a good idea. Firstly for the result of the game (which doesn't really matter) but also because I believe it'd be better to play with a structure that is something like what we'll play when we're a decent side again. If Zac Dawson isn't part of our future plans put someone in there that is. If there is no one that's in our future plans then play Dawson. At least he won't concede a goal to Ceglar of Gunstan (whichever Pearce isn't playing on) every time the ball goes in romotely the right spot due to size advantage.

Last time we didn't play those talls due to injuries. This time we are blatently deciding to force it upon ourselves. I have no doubt this isn't what the match committee want every game but it just shows the confidence in our KPP prospects behind Pavlich, Dawson, MJ, Taberner and Pearce. Apeness (injuries) may be an exception. The first three of those are gone in two years...

It's not just the height diff but.
the match ups aren't great for us.
I'd love APearce to go to Gunston, but with his height he may have to go with Ceglar/McEvoy. Hughes is more of a running defender, not tall 1 v 1.

Gunston v Ibbo is ok (Pearce would be preferred)
Ceglar/McEvoy v APearce (Dawson would usually take this)
Sicily v Sutty?
O'Brien v ? Hughes I guess? (Ibbo if daws plays)
Puopolo v Spurr
Bruest v Sheridan?

Matching up v Hawks without Dawson & Johnson is tricky
