It's our annual Tassie tank game in a tanking season so I wouldn't be reading into it that much...However, if we win then i'll take back my defense of Dawson. Still could be a late in as travelling emergency?

On paper our team doesn't strike fear into the opposition. here hoping for a spirited game!
The energy Clarke give , Dawson late in for Clarke sore knee.

I have no problem about who is in or out of the team for the remainder of the season provided some good comes out of it. That should include a good chance for any player with a few years at the club but limited game time so far to be tested in the AFL environment. They will sink or swim and either way that will ultimately help move the club forward. Same goes for any of the new players who are physically mature enough to play AFL and may benefit from playing a few games to see how they handle it.

As many others have stated here we peaked as a team half way through last season and have struggled to play to that level ever since. While that is disappointing it is a credit to the coach, the players and the club that they managed to be so good for so long with a list that had some major deficiencies. It is hard to argue Freo have not given everything they had for the duration of the Lyon era so far, no flat track bullies at home but weak on the road.

The reality from here and onwards is that injuries and a continuation of our late 2015 poor form have provided a stark reality check that we need to reboot now to become competitive again. We have fired our best shot and came up short, it time to focus on the future now regardless of the short term results. Exciting times.

He's being strategically rested in a no hope game. If he was dropped on form, he'd be lining up for Peel.

Strategically rested for what? So he can be in form come finals?

He's not being rested. He was dropped as our coach tinkers with our structure to improve ball movement coming out of defence.

Possibly. But personally I see no point in dropping Dawson unless we selected a young guy who could be a part of of future defensive structure. We have gone in with one genuine tall. That is not sustainable in the future.

Ahh, right

You're probably right. It's much more likely that he was dropped on form, is traveling as the emergency instead of playing for Peel and this is all part of the plan to "tinker with our structure to improve ball movement coming out of defence."...

Lol, just lol.

I am not complaining, Dawson, Barlow dropped, Mayne drop his breathing routine. D.pearce finally remind me why we recruit him for where we are at 0-7.

I get your point and presume you're talking about another young tall as we have got youngsters being tried in the backline but as others have pointed out, this game doesn't require another tall and the MC doesn't seem to have much faith in Collins at this stage. That may change though and we may see Colins or Mora or Smith come in over the next few weeks.

There are arguments both for and against if it was a rest or dropping. No one knows so whats the point of bickering about it? IMO it was a dropping, purely on two points. Firstly, Dawson was playing out of position in the GWS game, maybe already planning on life without him down back? Maybe just to roll the dice. Would you play someone who is a lock in our back 6 at full forward or in the ruck? Possibly he is on the outer now.

Secondly, and I'm happy to be corrected, but there isn't a track record of Dawson being rested. Why rest him? Why not Neale, Hill or our actual A grade talent? It's not as if Dawson, when rested, will win us the game next week off his own boot. Just my two cents on this topic.

Maybe with Clarke they really haven't given up on him as a ruckman. After next year he's probably the only viable option for the next 5 years (Hannath is delist material)

He really thrived in 2013 when he was the only choice, and he hasn't really had that opportunity since then. Maybe they're just doing what they can to entice him to stay and give him the odd game.

I think we'll probably lose but I don't think the match ups are that bad in this game.

I agree. Even our back line matches up well on their forwards - helps having no Rioli.

Hawks will probably end up resting another player too imo.

Rioli always gets off the chain against us, usually when we have the run of play. Bar set shot kicking, our form the last few weeks hasn't been that bad. If we play as we did against GWS and the Crows, we'll take it right up to them.

Something's drastically gone wrong within the play group in my opinion, minor premiers to cellar dwellers defies belief.
I don't accept the new playing style is to blame, to be honest I think that's a bit of a myth in it's self...... !

Players don't look happy, there a shadow of their themselves.

Spot on, it's only the forward line that worries me a touch but otherwise it's a well selected side to combat the Hawks. The ex Hawks assistants putting their 2c worth in to the MC no doubt.

If players look happy after so many defeat there is something wrong.
