Preview Changes v North Melbourne

He's small, he's slow, his kicking is terrible, his mark is average.
He's 189cm, slowish but passable for a midfielder, has very reliable kicking (if not that creative) and is actually very good overhead (refer back to 189cm).

Selwood showed very good form in the WAFL after being pretty good in the early weeks for us (despite the coaches trying to put him on the fastest player from Carlton). He's nowhere near as finished as some people want him to be.

It's basically him v Ash Smith.

No excuses this week guys, this is one of the strongest we have fielded in over 3 years.

...and with two milestones to champions of our club. Friday night is the big stage too.

I reckon we will give the Scott Sister something to REALLY sook about. How does a 60 point loss sound?

I wouldn't have dropped Brown. Kangaroos are arguably one of the few sides actually worth playing with the extra KPD.

Would have been a tough decision. Brown was probably the unluckiest of all the players dropped to make way. However, we did look a better side last week when the ball was a bit greasy with one less tall.

The forecast is for:

BOM said:
Partly cloudy. Scattered showers in the morning and afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms early in the morning. Winds west to northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h turning southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h in the morning then becoming light in the evening.

I would have dropped Schofield before Brown, myself.

I suppose Schoey takes Black?
I suspect Brown is a bit too similar in attributes to Glass and McKenzie in this instance. Schofield's our most athletic tall defender and thus offers something different if Daw looks threatening.

I suspect it's a team balance issue rather than who's in the better form.

Surprised to see selwood in but he's played well on Harvey before. Brown is unlucky

The other changes were pretty much no brainers

On paper it's pretty much our best side as there isn't any top 15 players missing although we do have a few who would be considered slightly underdone in terms of match fitness

North are fairly close to full strength too as far as I know (could be wrong) so it shapes up as a pretty good contest

B: Brennan, Glass, Schofield
HB: Hurn, Mackenzie, Waters
C: Rosa, S Selwood, Gaff
HF: LeCras, Darling, Masten
F: Hill, Kennedy, Kerr
Foll: Naitanui, Priddis, Shuey
I/C: Sheppard, Wellingham, Cox, A Selwood
Emg: Brown, Dalziell, Hutchings

If we can take this team into a grand final we'll win it.

Getting there seems to be the problem!

What's the point of a small defender if he is slow as molasses? The only reason you would need a small defender is to play on those small quick forwards, and for that speed is the important attribute, not height. Hell, think back to the days of Fletcher completely towling up Phil Matera every time we played the Bombers. Just because a forward is short doesn't mean he needs a short opponent.

I agree with all of this except to say Selwood is not short.

I'm just working with what we have and don't think anyone is better atm...

Maybe but that's not what North are tweeting
@s_mcgilvray BIG NEWS | @andrewswallow will be in the squad that plays the westcoasteagles this Friday night. More after 6pm... #NMFC

He looks fine.

Is that Swallow doing the rucking or the guy on far right.

Swallow on the right, Majak in the ruck and it's looks as though one of the assistant coaches is doing the NicNat impersonation.

Maybe Embley and Nico.

Ahh

Is Embley still injured or has he/will he be playing WAFL??

The other player I'm thinking of was McGinnity. IMO he's one of our missing links in the team. Provides great defensive pressure and blocks in the midfield. Has he been playing WAFL? How long till he is back?

If you swap ASelwood for McGinnity I would agree!

Embley, Nicoski, Dick are the only players who could force their way in if their form is good enough. Brennan & possible Hill (harsh) would be the ones most likely to make way.

Embley has not played WAFL yet this year
