If you swap ASelwood for McGinnity I would agree!

Embley, Nicoski, Dick are the only players who could force their way in if their form is good enough. Brennan & possible Hill (harsh) would be the ones most likely to make way.
Add Butler for Brennan. Composure and class is what's needed in the finals. I would not want Brennan with possession in the back pocket under the enormous pressure finals can bring. And his crash and bash mentality is just as likely to take out one of our own than the opposition.

Can't believe Brennan escapes criticism whilst A.Selwood, a proven performer and a useful utility is condemned from all sides. Sure Yarran outran him on a few occasions, but paint dries faster than our midfield runs, so he is not the only victim of a lack of leg speed. And I daresay Yarran would outrun every player in our side given the chance.

A.Selwood has a place in the side, unless we come up against a fleet-footed forward line, in the case of Carlton.

Have to admit I am very surprised about Brown's axing.

The fact remains 4 talls isn't ideal, however the one team it does work for is North.

Emac-Petrie
Brown-Daw/Goldstein
Schofield-Black
Glass to work off a lesser forward.

With Brown out it leaves Glass to take Daw/Goldstein. Then again, maybe we are working off the assumption that one of Waters/Hurn can now be free to play loose.

Brennan is one of only two defenders in our squad who has the pace to go with Jetta/Walters/Rioli/Motlop or any of the other highly damaging small forwards that have/can cut us up from the better teams.

I still recall his work down the wing in Rd 23 against Hawthorn last year when he shut down both Franklin and Rioli who looked like they were going to dance all around him. Unfortunately the commentators were winding up for a big play, then largely ignored the sterling job Brennan did in quelling both of them on his own.

Yes Brennan has his flaws, but he also has a much required asset.

I daresay he'll go to Thomas and Asel will go to Boomer

I agree about Yarran. The problem wasn't so much Selwood's lack of speed but rather Yarran and the ball getting in behind our defensive system.

However, I'd say Brennan is still our best option for quick small forwards. Really it's out of he and Smith.

I'm comfortable with Selwood replacing Smith.

I'd take A Selwood before A Smith every day of the week. Smith is a turnover merchant with shit tatts, shit hair, a shit kick and the composure of someone who's been hitting the bongs a bit too hard during the week. He looks confused and panics even when there's little to no pressure. WAFL player at best, I'd be happy to see him traded.
At least Selwood gives it his all and puts his body on the line plus he plays the tagging role extremely well. Adam offers plenty more upside IMO and should always be selected over Ash Smith.
Where's Blayne Wilson at? I'd rather see him given a crack before Smith too.

The shit tatts and shit hair were the final straw for me, that definitely puts Selwood ahead of Smith.

Also why Masto was dropped last week (the flu was just a ruse)

I don't mind patty playing as a defender, he has the ability to shut down dangerous players I think.

On a side note I still think smith has a lot to offer and hope he gets an extended run at some point to clean up his disposal.
Ultimately I'd like to see smith and mcginnity in for brennan and a.selwood. Somehow I'd love to get brown in as well, feel bad for the guy deserves to be in the team (will be really disappointing if he ends up leaving.)

Would not blame Browny if he left us. Don't know what more he could of done to keep his spot. He has been playing great footy.

Sorry, have I missed where Brown has stated his discontent? Or are we all just jumping to conclusions?

No he hasn't said anything publicly, just saying wouldn't be surprised he was pissed off given the fact that he deserves his spot at the moment. I suspect the reason he was dropped because we are one tall back too many for tonight.

How does he deserve his spot if we need to omit a tall and he's the 4th best tall due to others being better (Glass, McKenzie) or more versitile (Schofield)?

Don't get me wrong, he's playing well. I'd also like to keep him in the side. However, if we deem the conditions unsuitable for 4 talls and he's the least suitable out of those 4 players, then he doesn't really deserve his spot - for tonight's game at least.

He's been better than Schoey all year.

Perhaps, but as I mentioned earlier, Brown has similar characteristics to EMac and Glass whilst Schoey is more athletic and agile. I suspect Brown doesn't fit into the team balance.

Hypothetical - if Daw rampages EMac and then Glassy can't control him, wouldn't we be better off trying someone with different attributes like Shoey?

If Hansen was playing forward or Tarrant in the team instead of Daw, I'm sure we would have played Brown.

Regardless of how you want to play this he would be a bit dirty and rightly so.

Lol, Daw had a day out against a terrible defender/defence. He won't be rampaging anyone. Bookmark him for at most, one goal from a free kick.

Do we really lose much having Schoey instead of Brown? Really? You don't think the risk mitigation is worth a minimal drop in performance at worst?

I agree, he will find it very difficult to back up last week's huge performance. Eagles defence to shut the Daw on Majak.

Its the delivery. All of his goals last week (bar the 2 soft free kicks) were from exceptional delivery. Not one of those goals was a result of a contested mark, a run and carry, a pickup or turn (he has the turning circle of a Mac Truck). You have to do the lot to be a very good forward. So cut off the delivery, fill the gaps and stand on his toes and people will be saying Magic who?
