Jefferson to replace Petty. Shirley he can't be worse.
How about giving Sestan 100+ minutes of game time?

OUT: Petty or JVR (don't care which), Howes
IN: Jeffo, Sestan

Jeffo actually leads at the ball. Can't underestimate how important that is to our forward line at the moment. Sestan in to provide another good kick out of the backline.

We shouldn’t forget Collingwood are going well and Melbourne with a bit more composure win that game.

I don’t think there needs to be mass change.

JVR is an obvious drop candidate but bringing him in for one game and dropping him is pointless. He is showing solid leading and marking form in the VFL so sending him back won’t improve whatever is holding him back at AFL level.

Similar for Tholstrup, although he had a few good moments and probably did what was asked of him.

At half time Fritsch was on thin ice but he was almost was the game winner in the second half so clearly stays.

Not sure if the feel is Lindsay or Windsor could benefit from a run with Casey. Port have a shorter forward line so I don’t think all of Howes, Turner, May and Lever are required. Howes would be the one to go of course as Lever is untouchable.

Viney is apparently available and will probably come straight in.

In: Viney
Out: One of Lindsay/Windsor/Howes

Rivers probably making way for Viney in centre square setups. On Rivers I was disappointed with his disposal. He’s becoming like a nicer looking Oliver with his kicking. Oliver dump kicks no look mungs to nobody, and Rivers bursts away and kicks lovely long drop punts to nobody.

Yeah Rivers' kicking and sloppy decision making killed us.

He can get in and out of traffic nicely, but his long dump kicks need work.

He doesn't lead at all at AFL level at the moment though, so perhaps going back to the VFL to ingrain it as a habit is the best thing for his development? We 100% need a forward in who leads. I know Fullarton is a bit of a dud, but is it a coincidence our forward line functioned the best when he was in? I'm not saying that's due to him as a player, but having a tall forward actually lead made space in our forward line - Compare that to what we saw yesterday which was as bad as it's ever been.

One of Petty or JVR needs to come out for one of Jefferson or Fullarton for our forward line to function properly IMO.

I think we should do what A11dAtP0w3R said in another thread. I can't remember what it is was, something like drop JVR, drop Lever, play Petty back and bring in TMac as a forward. As he said, it won't happen but would make the team better.
TMac has apparently said himself he can't physically play forward anymore. Aside from that, with cohesion a huge issue already, it'd be a terrible move to bring him in now as a forward when we already have one in form at VFL level who needs the development.

Yeah, Rivers had a poor game from the start. But he's allowed one.

Jeffo pairs well with JVR at VFL level. I'd like to see them play a few matches together at AFL level to see how they go.

Lindsay played well except for that brain fade. Better that he learns to an AFL standard. It's not as if his mistakes are going to cost us a finals appearance.

In: Jefferson, Viney
Out: Howes, Petty

I'd be dropping JVR for idk. Petty is arguably close as well but at least has the versatility to swing back if needed. If JVR can't play forward well (at this point of his career), he essentially doesn't bring anything else to the side that's useable gameday

Sorry if that seems harsh

I'm tipping a close game.

Instructions to be written on the back of Max's hand:
"KICK THE BALL TO THE RED AND BLUE".

No outs yet.

TMac, Viney and Sharp into the squad.

For reference - Petty has a total of 3 goals in his last 5 games. JVR has a total of 2 in his last 5. Both still in. Jefferson is ahead of JVR for goals per game this year at AFL level.

It is so funny how Goody just clearly absolutely hates some players. You have to wonder who pushed for Fullarton and Jeffo when Goody simply refuses to play him. Agree wholeheartedly both KPFs have been awful and need to be replaced.

I reckon JVR is hang on to his spot because Johnson is suspended. Petty isn't doing much, he always looks better back but now they can't find a spot for him. Feels a bit rinse and repeat with him. Goes forward he has a brief impact, he then turns to crap, he is moved into the backline, he looks good again, he is swung forward ect. Just noticed TMAC is named, as others have mentioned would rather him forward atm can't be any worse.

It's like groundhog day. Petty is not a forward.

I can’t see Tmac coming in as a forward. Those days are well behind him. If they were thinking this they would’ve had played him forward for a stint in his VFL games. Instead they moved Kentfield when they wanted more height forward.

Port aren’t running with a tall forward line. They dropped Finlayson and it looks like Sweet might come in to double-team Gawn with Visentini and if so you’d think they would also need to spend some time forward. That makes their talls a resting ruck without much forward craft and Georgiades who is in good form this year but is an in between medium/tall in size and style. May, Turner and Lever along with Howes seems almost too much height so no need for Tmac as a back either.
