Melbourne
AFL Club
Essendon
Other Teams
Arsenal, Pacers
Out: Johns, NLM, Monfries, Bradley, Peverill
In: Solomon, Heffernan, Nash, Slattery, Lonergan

2 forced changes with NLM and Johns, and probably 3 with Monfries. Would also give Bradley a spell in Bendigo so he can get some quality match time.

Put Solly and Heff in, assuming they are fit (anyone know?). Slattery did a good job on Dal Santo last time we played them. With him in and Heff we don't need Peverill, so replace him with Nash who uses the footy a lot better, which we'll need if we're going to score anything respectable with only Lucas as a recognised goal scorer against a defence that has conceded only more points than Adelaide.

edit: was going in one short ;)

Was thinking maybe Jolley to come in for NLM as a rebounding HBF..??

Jolley is a tough workhorse who makes his living winning the hard nut and bringing others into the game. He has neither the run or high skill level to be an effective rebounding HBF.

Solly on Gehrig, Fletcher on Riewoldt??

Solly did well last year on gehrig so thats a good option. Not sure about the second one though, reiwoldt would run fletch into the ground. I'd give the job to Lee, what do we have to lose? he will no doubt learn much from the experience. We need to keep fletch as close to goal as possible and with the saints likely to rest Rix and Ackland down forward he can handle one of those or gehrig.

Solly went to Gehrig last time around. I can't remember who went to Reiwoldt, maybe it was Bradley. Fletch didn't play.

You're right, with Fletcher on Pavlich last week and Thompson the week before there does seem to be a bit of a change in thinking back there.

With Johns out, might give us an opportunity to have a look at Lee up forward.

I was thinking they might play Bradley up forward with Johns out and Leave Lee down back!

Has started a great percentage of his Bendigo games at half back ;)

I'll state it again..."Jolley is a tough workhorse who makes his living winning the hard nut and bringing others into the game. He has neither the run or high skill level to be an effective rebounding HBF."

I maybe should have added at AFL level but i stand by it.

Out : Johns, NLM, Monfries, Reynolds (has had more than enough chances now)
In : Nash, Heffernen, Slattery, Cartledge

St Kilda are weak in the rucks so Tristran gets a little game time run swapping with Hille off the bench.
Play Paddy as a forward with a licence to ruck inside the 50.

Nash for NLM
Slattery for Monfries
Heffernen for Reynolds (that said, anyone for Reynolds)

Heffernen on Dal Santo
Watson on Ball - Jobe will know Ball's game well after playing all his schoolboy football with him.
Kepler on Riewoldt - dangerous but it will be a good learning experience again. If it gets out of hand we can put Bolton on him. By the way Bolts is playing okay lately.
Fletcher on Gehrig

Play Campo off half back so we can generate some run.

St Kilda are slow and we have played well against them over the past few years.

You can state what you want:thumbsu: I was only saying that i have seen him play 30 odd games for Bendigo and in a large majority of them he has played at half back for some of the game.

Read his comment in context mate.

It was suggested that Jolley comes in to replace NLM and play the role Nat Rat has been playing for the majority of the year.

Despite Jolley playing in the same position, he doesn't play in the same manner. If you want someone to fill the NLM role and provide run and rebound then Nash would be more likely.

What marcuz said was spot on.

Yes but who else does who is outside the squad at the moment?? Actually the suggestion came up in another thread from a coment i made after reporting on the Bendigo v Nth Ball game.. I simply said that Jolley could come in for NLM because he has played a lot of footy at half back for Bendigo. I never said he would play the same style of game.

Cole may be a chance now he has had a couple of games back. I am simply stating that Jolley may well line up at half back if he makes the team. It is not a given that he will automaticly play midfield.

fletcher/solomon on gereigh(sp?).. like solomon as he is a tough nut.. and could get under frashers skin easy... get him reported for those ****ty throat holds ;)

and bradley on reiwolt (sp?).. bradely has to run with him.. and will be very hard to stop reiwolts marking (top 10 in the afl) but if he can push him up the ground and take him away from the goals 50+ and reiwolts marking then i think bradley can take honours here because as we all no.. reiwolts kicking at goal is rubbish and doesnt hurt teams like other forwards eg hall

mcveigh on miln.. mmmm... cause also miln his rubbish under pressure... if the back line can hold its own then i think the st kilda forwards will fall like a deck of cards

its their midfield that is a worry.. the matchups gaaa who can run with dal santo etc... or maybe sheeds should go off on a massive tangent here and bank of first possesion.. and make the st kilda midfield tag us.. their defensive aspect of the game is not as great as their attacking

my team is

mcveigh,fletcher,welsh
campo,mcphee,soloman
stanton,watson,bolton
lonegan,lee,heffernan
lovett,lucas,monfries
hille,jjohnson,mjohnson

bradley,slattery,jolley,dyson

in.slattery,heffernan,solomon,jolley,lonegan
out.johns,lovett-murray,peveril,reynolds,ryder

bradley as second ruckman.
keymatch ups
fletcher-g train
mcphee-reiwoldt
mcveigh-milne
heffernan-dalsanto
jj-harvey
mj-ball.

if we play long and direct football we could cause an upset.

none of this short passing crap or going sidewards, go long and strong

The saints will probably line up like this:

B: L.Fisher, Hudghton, S.Fisher
HB: Gram, Maguire, Goddard
C: Powell, Ball, Montagna
HF: X.Clarke, Riewoldt, Harvey
F: Milne, Gehrig, Voss

Foll: Rix, Dal Santo, Baker
Int: Ackland, Fiora, McQualter, Peckett

Emg: McGough, Gilbert, Sweeney

(If Schwarze is fit he'll probably get a game as well)

Maguire v Lucas
Hudghton v whoever is playing FF
Gram v Lovett
L.Fisher v Monfries
Baker v J.Johnson

Daytripper if you think the saints are slow then you are in for a big surprise. Yes, we've got some mudrunners in Powell and Peckett, but Montagna, Gram, McQualter, Baker, X.Clarke, Milne and Fiora are all lightning quick, while we have very mobile big guys in Rix, Riewoldt, Hudghton, Gehrig and S.Fisher. Then there's also Dal and Harvs who could walk the length of the field with the footy and no one would get near them. As long as guys like Powell, Ball, Peckett, L.Fisher etc are getting the quuick handball off to the runners we'll be fine. Against the Pies we had 40 running bounces to their 28 (Leigh Montagna with 14).

We have also dominated the ruck in the past couple of weeks (admittedly against weak ruck divisions), and Michael Rix is just getting better and better. As his confidence has grown he's started kicking more, backing himself to take big grabs and winning a crapload of hitouts to advantage.

Jolley is not a dashing player in the NLM mould however he has a high skill level by foot and hand. Hard to judge his capabilities at AFL level when he hasnt been given the opportunity to play at that level I would have thought.
It amazes me that no one has commented on Lonergan being mentioned as a possible inclusion. I think he is nowhere near the level Jolley is currently performing at. Still I would like to see all of the kids get a couple of games at one point or the other.
