Changes v Swans

I know it's a short season and it started 3 months ago but we need to remember we've only played three rounds. The commentary here that seems to write off Schache for the season looks a bit premature to me.

He has been squeezed out with the arrival of Bruce and with MC's clear intent on playing Naughton as a forward rather than a defender. I expect he'll get a run when either of those is injured - or if they decide to send Naughton back to defence (unlikely). It's strange because I reckon Schache playing as a KPF should be good for 25+ goals and so far Naughton and Bruce have kicked just 2 between them in 3 games.

After the GWS EF last year and the Collingwood debacle in Rd 1 Bevo's game plan has reverted to playing speedier types who can move the ball on quickly and also those who apply pressure and have a bit of aggression and physicality - that is Schache's biggest challenge.

His frustration will be that with no VFL competition available to him this year - only semi-serious scratch matches - it's going to be hard to bang the selection door down.

Ugle-Hagan is a likely arrival next season so Schache needs to prove his value in 2020. I don't know if he can do that but I reckon he'll at least get a chance somewhere along the way this season. Let's see how he acquits himself.
Spot on Dogwatch. What people forget is the Schache is a true lead up forward who covers a lot of ground. So even if he is not getting it a lot he opens up space for others. I think Schache is great for team structure and I know its early yet he offers something different than Naughten and Bruce. Schache ball in hand with a bit of space is a better decision marker and field kick than both Naughten and Bruce.
He will play games before the years out. We know his negatives yet he has positives as well

Schache can also make the most of limited opportunities with his great accuracy. Naughton and Bruce have a tendency to miss easy shots which hurts more in shorter games. I'd like us to at least try him as a third tall at some point.

I'd like a 60 point win with a +25 free kick count in our favour, there will be more melts than a fire at Madam Tussauds
Dream scenario, we get a couple of 50/50s go our way then Toby rolls under a tackle right in front of goal and gets a too high free kick. The melts would be delicious

I'm a Schache fan and hope he gets a good shot at it. Guys who are 199 cm can run like a midfielder all match and use the ball really well don't come along every day.

However, when Lewis Young played most of R1 as a tall forward, along with Bruce and Naughton, it was pretty apparent that Schache either had a poor preseason or had fallen well down the pecking order.

I am keen for him to get his chance, but am glad it wasn't this week, as the cramped dimensions of the SCG are not the arena for him to show what he can do.

Recently saw the Open Mike episode with him. Hugely impressive. No doubt Fox will replay it a few times in the coming days. Anyone who loves footy should watch it.
They waited a long time to put him in the Hall of Fame - 91!

Hope dale and Lloyd play a better one this week otherwise surely atleast one gets omitted
Yes if either of them are down on effort this week at least one of them will be dropped.
Dicko would have to come under consideration if one goes out, possibly Weightman but would make for an awfully young age profile

Also he doesn't seem to be a natural gainer of weight. So it will take time for him to develop that body density to give him the confidence to make that difference in his perceived intensity.
Time is ticking on him I hope he can kick on, have much more confidence when Schache is having a set shot.

Dale was only a bizarre miskick away from kicking 2 goals last week. I'd take 2 goals a game from him anytime.

On the other hand Lloyd offering next to nothing.

We will have to match their intensity in the first quarter a milestone to a much loved servant and now the sad news of John senior passing will no doubt have then fired up but in a different way to the orange filth of last week.
