As others have said - he had a major lower leg injury that interrupted his pre-season and opening month.
When Xerri got suspended for 3 matches in round 3, Goad literally played VFL for the first time the following week.

His form in the VFL has been uninspiring. Competing but nothing worthy of a call up.
He struggled 2 weeks ago against Briggs when we played the Giants VFL team. Just had a down day and we got smashed.
Credit to him, seemed to be a good learning curve as he pretty much dominated and beat Rhys Stanley on the weekend in the VFL match against Geelong.

That's the first signs of positive form we have seen so far in 2026. He's building.

Sydney have a very offensively-minded midfield.

Bring the heat, and its 4 points guaranteed despite the backline deficiencies.

I believe the are actually very good defensively. Think I saw #1 for points against and defending D50 to F50 transition.
We're 2nd last for defending D50 to F50, so I'm worried what they'll do to us.
But if we can win clearance and put their backline under pressure, maybe we can compete.
We can't let it get into a track meet or we'll get scored heavily against.

They aren't going to make more than a couple of changes, as they want to keep some continuity.

Hardemann should come in for LMac but probably won't happen.
Wardlaw for Powell and Kont for Dova to curtail Blakey seem the reasonable changes.

I'm not a hater but honestly didn't think Pink played AFL footy at VFL level to warrant a call up.
Harvey got lots of cheap touches, but should get a look at some point.
Matlock not far away, improving with each week in the VFL. Will get a look in at some point.
Goad would be an interesting selection if Darling is rested. Please not CCJ.

Agree he's not part of the future, but I don't think we're at play the kids stage just yet.
I think 9 of the next 11 up until Round 20 are winnable games, excluding Swans and Freo.
If wildcard is out of the picture by the time we face the Hawks in Tassie, like I probably thought it would be too be honest with us being bottom 8 and 8-10 wins, then give younger guys games to close out the last four games of the season.
We'll probably find a few young guys work their way into the team like Hardemann and Goater before then anyway.

Get Zurhaar back up forward and play Harvey across half back. Daniel and Parker more time in the middle to split LDUs minutes as Wardlaw will still be managed minutes wise. I can't think of anyone else who can play a proper lock down role, so Hardeman gets the gig on Rosas.

Lots of pressure on our mids this week, and i fear that if Colby has a quiet game he may be omitted for next week.

Keen to see Harvey play as i think he can be a long term replacement for Parker in defence.

We can stretch their backline enormously. No Mccartin is massive. Big opportunity for Souva and Curtis. Not sure who will get Curtis but all their defenders love to play high up the ground and arent accountable, so he could expose them.
