By my estimation, the Crows are missing 5 people from the side that lost to us by 47points last year, and one of those is Graeme Johncock (And another was B.Moran).

We can win this match, if we turn up mentally switched on, and do the "little things" that Adelaide have done - like applying defensive pressure, kicking straight, and playing consistent footy.

Hope you don't mind the intrusion on your board, but, in the context of comparing Adelaide's performances last year to this year, I thought it might be worth mentioning that Adelaide lost to the Saints by 103 points in round 18 last year, yet the beat the Saints by 4 points last week. A 107 point turn-around, yet, as you note, not the result a huge difference in the playing list.

That's a useless comparison. Last year's game was at the Dome.

Hansen to come in for taz/black

No other changes

Levi keeps la out cos of his physicality given we are playing the number 1 clearance team.

You did beat the Saints earlier in the season at AAMI Stadium though..

Just read the article on the age website that roos fear the crows midfield. It seems to be a weekly event that Scott pumps up the opposition in what appears to be an attempt to challenge our boys. Not sure its the right approach.

Don't think you can read what's in the media as what the coaches are saying to the guys in preparation. Before each game, the coach is expected to say something about the opposition - they pretty much always give them respect (like that silliness a coupe of weeks ago with Hardwicke and whoever was coaching their opposition carrying on with "they have the best midfield", "no, THEY have the best midfield", "no, really, THEY do"...). What else would you expect.

The discussions with players would be all about "we can beat them, and the best way to beat them is if you do this, this and this". These days it's probably "this, this, this, this, not this, this this, definitely not this, if this then this, and if this then this, and this, this, and of course this" - it's a miracle how many of them do hold it together.

Interesting game. Adelaide have improved but they are no world beaters. Their defence is solid with the general Rutten manning the key post and he will make Petries job hard, but it worth rmembering that Drew kicked 4.2 on him at their last outing. Talia will go to Tarrant and I think Robbie can expose him for strength so expect Drew to hit hard up the ground to isolate Tarrant. Lindsay and Boomer need to get amongst the goals.

I think Hansen will come in and he will go to defence to play a role on Tippet. It's important to remember that Hansen gave Tippet an absolute shellacking the last time he played on him in round 15 2010.

Hansen - 25 disposals, 8 marks
Tippet - 6 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal (free kick)

The enigmatic Walker will need close watching and I think Scott McMahon is well suited for the role.

Again, this is all going to come down to the midfield and the glaring difference between the two sides is the ability of Scott Thompson to consistently accumulate large numbers of possessions.

Our midfield simply must stand up if we are going to win. We need big games from Wells and Swallow and an influential input from Ziebell and Bastinac. Goldstein will give us a definite first advantage.

I also see the half backs as potentially vulnerable against the seasoned and wily Callinan and Vince. Disrespect these players and they will hurt us.

I think the crows have a better spread of mature players and this will get them over the line.

well, you have dispensed with Brad Moran...........

Reckon Gibson out for Anthony?

Surely not. Gibson deserves to stay in and I would be frustrated if he was dropped.

As for the Hansen comments (in this and other threads), i'm also glad he is back purely for his size/marking/experience.....but need some perspective on his ability, he is not a quick fix for our recent form issues.

Even if Hansen starts forward, he will end up in defence eventually.

There is no way Grima and Thompson can hold Tippet and Walker if they get on top in the midfield (which they will).

Grima would be alright on Walker but, other than Hansen, we don't have a defender capable of going with Tippet.

Lets just smash them in the midfield.

Im not sure it matters who plays on opposition forwards (although Tippett is a worry), we have solid defenders. Its far more important how the ball comes down - if its like recent weeks when their mids stream down unaccounted for and ball comes in low and quickly, it wont matter who plays on them as they will kick plenty.

Our whole structure needs to be tightened up dramatically to give our defenders (who have copped a raw deal this year) a realistic chance of stopping the scoring against us.
