I'm not convinced our structure is greatly impacted by swapping Eddy for Impey. He was the third tall behind Dixon and Trengove/Ryder last week, which is two more talls than we had in our forward line for the majority of last season. I'm happy to back Kern in with this one and see what things look like with an extra runner in the team.

Last season was the Springfield Tire Yard fire of football seasons. I'm not happy with any move back towards what we were doing there.

I'm saying Brett played like shiiiiit on Saturday. He's used to having to prove himself. He can keep going a bit longer. You are thinking he is as mentally precious as ......

It's not about Eddy proving himself, it's about selecting on team balance. If he was bad, drop him for another tall. If you're dropping him for a short player, you're arguing that the structure wasn't ideal and needed to be changed.

What on earth are we going to learn about Brett Eddy at SANFL level that we don't already know?

Mate, I feel what your putting down but I don't agree and think you've blinded yourself. We're way taller than last year and we only needed to be a bit taller. If you're going to melt, melt it should be Hoff instead of Eddy. The structure looks just about sweet to me

Even if something suits balance you'll still go with the axe to grind angle, TeeKray just made a valid post

We're 1 tall down on the structure that just saw us beat Sydney in Sydney for the first time in a decade. Why on earth are we trying to get closer to last year's structure which was absolutely horrendous?

This assumes Westhoff was playing as a tall though.

I dont agree at all that we only needed to be a bit taller than last year.

People are saying we are way taller as if we're too tall. "Too tall" just saw us smash our bogey side off the part at their place despite being heavy underdogs.

Why not continue with something that worked only a week earlier? Why move back towards last year's structure that didn't work?

I've been calling for us to play taller for 4 years. We finally did and the result was amazing. We should be continuing that.

Teekray is great but I don't agree with him in this case.

We played taller and it worked against Sydney in Sydney. Why change it? Was it wrong? It didn't look wrong.
This assumes Westhoff was playing as a tall though.
Westhoff plays as a tall flanker/wingman and will do so regardless of the amount of talls we have in the side. Making him play permanently forward robs us of the mismatch he creates across the ground and makes us less flexible.

i don't think you can claim the success of 4 talls on the back of Eddy playing 60% TOG and Westhoff basically as a midfielder or loose defender. we lose what? maybe 15-20 minutes of an extra tall in the forward line if Westhoff plays more forward this week.

Ok. Lets agree to disagree on that point. I think horses for courses. I also think as amazing as saturday was, it should really be par for us

I can claim that it's worth persisting with the structure used against Sydney and that's what I'm doing.

If Westhoff moves forward we lose his running and marking power across the middle of the ground, which is his best role.

Happy Impey is in after his performance last week. Was very good. Should have been for Sam Gray, not Eddy though.

If Eddy is not playing, then Westhoff must go forward. Rotating Trengove, Westhoff, Dixon and Ryder through the forward line should be plenty. I prefer the extra pace on the ground. Amon to spend more time on the wing. In the Fremantle game last year, R kGray I don't think fired a shot, was tagged out of the game by Barlow I think who got about 30 touches. Westhoff is the one that must be now under a bit of pressure. I still think he is an average player who has the odd good game. Once Eddy gets his fitness up, he will be a good player. I think we are a bit small in the back lines. Ebert will not be used as a tagger. He showed he was very useful in the centre. It will interesting to see how R Gray will be used this week.

WHOME wrote the following on page 12 of the Jarman impey crashes his car thread. It's stuck with me ever since I read it.
It seems his driving is very similar to his footy - poor decision maker under pressure, a little reckless, lacks accountability, occasionally looks out of control but when he takes off nobody can catch him, goes missing for extended periods

Dropping Eddy I wonder which Jarman Impey will replace him on Sunday. I bloody hope Jarman improves his decision making on the field in 2017 and becomes a vital cog in the team's machinery. He can do some unbelievably good things, but he can also make some basic **** ups.

Don't like Eddy being dropped as I think this game could of been a great opportunity for him to score some goals. He will find his way back in though im confident of it.

I guess the question everyone wants to know and we will never ever get an answer to is, had Eddy just snagged one goal last week would his possie have been safe? Even Arsene Wenger probably would love to know the answer to this.

Ken says Dixon, Ryder and Trengove will rotate through the ruck. We're playing two talls with Westhoff floating. When the ball gets locked into the forward line, it will be 3 talls + ruck.

How many do you need?

Impey releases Wingard and Gray into the midfield because he can play their role as well as go on ball. Eddy can't do that.

Well here's the thing.

I will have absolutely zero issues with this if the same standards are held through the rest of the team. If Westhoff clocks zero goals and a nothing game again this week, then I expect him to be next on the OUTs.
Nah Kenny loves him. He wont get dropped if he plays as you speculate.

Why did need to change from a system that worked though?

Trengove is likely to go back when Sandilands plays up there because our defenders are shorter. Westhoff's best role is floating on the wing. Both will help out in the ruck.

I'm not worried about when the ball is locked in, I'm worried about freeing up marking targets when we're moving the ball.

It'd be nice to have Wingard and Gray play more in the midfield but Gray did nothing last week after his head knock and our midfield worked really well. So theoretically we'll already have what we had last week plus 3/4 of Robbie.

We're solving problems that simply didn't exist against Sydney.
