Tutty sheds a tear whenever he reads all the hate here ....but thankfully there's always someone, somewhere who will give love to a spud...here's to you fpcookie

He's quite quick, a quality finisher, and is extremely smart. Gets himself into dangerous positions constantly. He won't win much of the ball, but when he does, he'll be in a position to attack and make the most of it. Takes the game on and works pretty hard. He's fantastic at generating overlap run - averages 7.5 handball receives in the VFL so far. Impressive.

On the negative side, he's extremely slight and very outside; he may struggle to adjust to the pace and pressure of AFL football this early. His disposal is sloppy at times and, as already mentioned, he's not going to accumulate 20-30 disposals on the outside, nor the inside.

In terms of what I'm expecting - 10-13 disposals, a few shanks/clangers, maybe a goal and a few extremely exciting moments. He'll probably need time to adjust but I think he can have a respectable debut.
No way I'd describe his disposal as sloppy. Decision making and disposal are excellent imo. No way near ready physically, but he's a natural, natural footballer.

Massive macrae fan, to the point where I think he's our next Brownlow medalist. But he deserved to be dropped. Looked totally cooked the last 2 weeks.

Hrovat (who I'm also a massive fan of), also deserved to get punted. Awful last week. He stood up for 15 minutes and we hang on.

Beveridge is playing the long game here. I'm down with it.

At times I think it is. Four effective kicks to 13 ineffective against Collingwood VFL supports this. He's certainly got the skill to use the ball well, but from what I've seen, he doesn't always do so.

Definitely worth a game at Carlton. Hope he does ok too. His main problem was his foot skills.
My recollection was he could roost the ball a long way and of course was quick. These were his supposed assets.
His problem was his hands - too many fumbles.

Absolutely stoked that 'my man' Dale the Ferrari makes his debut. I'm not expecting too much either but it's always exciting to blood new players. Of all the draftees, he stood out as having something special and hopefully we will see glimpses this weekend.
As for Macrae's omission, not surprised at all, his form has been trending down for a few weeks and he should gain the time and space at VFL to get his game back on track.
He may get a reprieve yet, won't be surprised if one or two players drop out with 'general soreness' before the bounce on Saturday.

Disposal efficiency can be the last thing to catch up when a young player professes. It's about adjusting to the new speed of play at senior level (by that I mean playing footy against men at vfl or afl level).

Dale has a wonderful feel for the game and gorgeous skills. If he's a sloppy user of the ball, he probably doesn't have an afl career.

Sorry Fronk, not sure I follow. Hitting targets is a necessity to be classified as having gorgeous skills. Need more than a nice action and good decision making to be a great user of the footy. I think he's got a nice action and agree he has the tools to be a good kick, but my only point was that he doesn't always use it as well as he could at this moment in time. This will develop, but as it stands, he can miss targets and be sloppy by foot at times. He'll improve. Certainly not making any calls about his AFL career...plenty of other attributes and, as I said, his ball use will improve as he gets a better feel for the pace of the game. He's a good finisher from what I've seen - and that's what he'd be in the team to do.

Find it very difficult to believe Macrae will be left out.
Stevens most likely won't come up , so Macrae back in.

In the way Macrae plays its unforgivable to make clanger after clanger. The sideways nothings he favors are only effective in retaining possession and at the moment they are not doing that. Its my opinion in the long run he needs to be more of a inside mid once more damaging outside types like Dale develop.

Wallis to play on fyfe for mine kept him quiet last year
Wallis may be ok when Fyfe's onball but when they push him forward look out. Fyfe is a running machine who is extremely strong overhead.

It will be interesting to see Bev's tactics, will it be man on man or zone or running combinations.

I'm not confident as Freo's strong all over the ground and their running mids are the best. I hope for a good contest and a great learning experience.

Like I said, he's no world beater but nowhere near as bad as people made out. Not losing any sleep over him departing the Kennel whatsoever. Think he would have been a better player under Bev's plan than Macca's though.

I agree Tutt would have been better under Bev and I thought Tutt and JJ were similar in their development. Early days JJ had the fumbles and problematic decision making similar to Tutt and he has thankfully improved dramatically.

I fear you have summed the game perfectly D54. can't see how we can win this one .
But a solid competitive effort will be a pass mark for me.

Can't agree with this one . Remember JJ was a rookie , and his improvement was fairly steady from year to year.
Tutt stagnated very quickly. Was always more confident JJ could make it .
Why are we still talking about Tutt as if he is any loss at all. Can't cement a spot in a very poor Carlton side.
And we have many that have gone past him on our list.

If we play like we have in all our wins we are a big chance especially in Melbourne , if it was in Perth though I wouldn't even bother showing up

Surely the Bont goes head to head with Fyfe? Wallis doesn't have the height or pace. Jong doesn't have the smarts yet.

The Bont can match him in all aspects except endurance.

I'm kind of hoping Macrae is given the run with role on Fyfe this week. He could teach him a lot out there.

Well I guess that's not going to happen now...

Anyone know how Stevens is traveling? I would be very surprised if he got up for this game given how restricted he was last week, anyone seen him on the track this week?

I wouldn't be that surprised. It looked like a corky at the top of his butt didn't it? Could imagine it loosening back up pretty quickly.

I don't disagree with your comments. My point was around confidence and perhaps with a positive environment and some luck Tutt could have progressed... who knows. I like you had confidence in JJ and he has had a fantastic 2015.

I'd tag Hill and just head to head with Fyfe. If he wants to play FF that's fine, our defenders are pretty good one on one. My worry would be their small forwards, our amateurish defending on Billings last week makes me pretty worried about our defending off the packs.

Fascinating to see Hunter's defensive effort tomorrow as it was pathetic last week. He is fortunate to get a reprieve.

The decision to omit Macrae is both expected and surprising. He gets a lot of the ball but his disposal has just gone from ok, to bad too intolerable. The best kicks virtually have little or no ball drop and their heads over the ball. Macrae's gait will never allow him to develop a classic action. I think it's a minor adjustment but he will require a tonne of repetition to make the adjustment second nature.

Great to see Dale debut
No doubt Webb just needed a rest from the intensity of AFL and I am sure he will be back in 2-3 weeks
Hrovat needs to find his mojo - his attributes demand that he is super clean and a really good decision maker
Boomer Harvey should not be his role model rather he shares more attributes with StKilda's Schneider

I know Cordy had his best game last week but I can't help but feel late in that game minsons ability to drop the ball at his feet and cause repeated stoppages would have been sufficient for the win
Wil does need to clunk more around the ground pack marks to compensate for his lack of agility

I also feel we miss J Grant. I know his output is borderline but his defensive pressure has been first class and he offers such a point of difference and flexibility to the team. He is so so close it is a shame that he is languishing in the vfl and looking at a delisting
