Why does Mullett get one game and if some errors then out, yet Taz can run around like a headless chook all night (whilst getting cheap possies on the wing) yet stay in 'because he needs developent' or 'has only played x amount of games'? Talk about BF and their favourites

To put it into perspective Tazz played better than Petrie.

No key forward would have played well with the way we were delivering the footy inside forward 50. I re watched the game and Tarrant was working a lot harder up the ground and down the ground trying to create an option. Every single kick that went to him missed him by 4-5m. Most of them made him look bad because went sailing over his head. Also I thought his 2nd and 3rd efforts were solid layed a lot of good solid tackles.

maybe a trip to the backline might get drewie his spark back, ive heard lachie and taz be suggested, but drew is the best option of the triple towers, and based on current score input would be more valuable down back, releases thommo for intercept mark and rebound duty, opens a forward spot for black/daw, would back him in on hawkins for sure, thoughts ???

One game and our leading goal kicker should be sent to defence... Right.

Whats with Atley, is he safe for this week? Plus what position is he playing, thought he would get more of a run in the mid?
safe as house, he'll cop a rocket from some coaches to get his head out of his ass and will move on. he's our most talented kid and will bounce back after his poor performance. he may run into the midfield with mcmahon back, it depends if jacobs is dropped or not, i hope atley goes midfield but also i want jacobs to have another chance

i know the right guy to give him a spray

Yep, Taz got consistently burnt and did well to create an option. My favourite was Gibson 80m out ignoring him on a hard lead when he'd put 5m on Frost. Gibbo proceded to kick to a 1 on 3 inside 50.

I'm more interested in getting rid of the blokes who can't kick.

the kennett curse lmao, how is majak for this week? In contention?
i hope he gets a go, he would have to replace tarrant or hansen and considering both played fairly poorly he might be a go. id much prefer daw than tarrant, given there is more upside with majak

This has been a major problem for years now and we've gradually addressed it.

There's a difference between having poor to average technique, with no chance at all of ever completing a high skilled, low % kick, to being a good enough kick, but making the odd skill error.

I believe we're making too many skill errors, not that we don't have the skills. ...if you know what I mean.

This has the benefit that we largely have the cattle, its just the cattle needs a little more development and maturity.

Perhaps they could've put more into it over the off season? Dunno. I really do think though, that we'll see a real improvement this year. It's RD 1 after all.

Fwiw, when the kicking went to the shit on Sunday, I would've liked to see a bit of 'Brads handball happy' run off HB to get us back in it.

What we really need is Atley and Harper to get more ball. And somehow, BMac to speed up his development and sit on packs waiting for a handball receive. A developed mcDonald won't hurt either. I'm losing faith in Kennedy making it, I hope I'm proven wrong though.

Overall, when the midfield development reaches its zenith, every aspect of the game will get easier. Blokes will have more time, more trust in each other, more opportunities. The very same players will look like another team in 2 years. Rebuilding the midfield with 18 yr olds has proven costly all over the ground.

Ok, i will ask again. Is Kennedy any chance this weekend? Or some time soon?
Carrying an ankle and didnt play VFL this week, so a few games will be needed before he would be putting his hand up.

Would go like this next week.
B: McMahon Thompson Hine
HB: Firrito Grima Wright(on chapman all day)
C: Wells Ziebell Cunnington
HF: Adams(better for the run) Hansen Harper(last chance)
F: Thomas Petrie(needs to make up) Tarrant(he needs to impact each contest not some)
R: Goldstein Swallow Bastinac
I: Atley(plays midfield) Anthony(full game at Etihad) Gibson(likewise) Greenwood(Run with Selwood)

OUT: MacMillan(soft and cant kick) Mullet(cant kick period dont care how many times he gets its) Jacobs(not AFL ready way off the pace)
IN: McMahon Hine Greenwood

So our so called depth will allow us to make two changes. Mcmahon is a no brainer and by all reports Hine deserves a go. Mcmillan and Jacobs have to go and I believe one of Anthony or Gibson as well. Wouldn't mind seeing Black or Daw get a chance either. Comes down to team balance I suppose

Have we all forgotten it was the first game of the AFL season? BIG stage 40k plus crowd? young team needing more "big crowd" match day experience? You ever played in front of a large vocal crowd? It's bloody intimidating to say the least...yes they are AFL footballers, but confidence comes with time, so we can't just delete most of the team because they were beaten on the day....credit were its due. They were more attacking and ferocious than we were, and wanted to win, hence the pace of the game and the errors that resulted in turnovers.
The game worked well for the magpies....we missed this one....our players put their heads down, train their asses off during the week, and redeem themselves next week against the Cats.

You don't run with Selwood. You try and negate run off half back I.e. Enright.

If Greenwood comes in, you want him attacking the ball and moving it forward. Bastinac is probably the best "run with" player we have, and his disposal has become increasingly less damaging as he's matured.

Collingwood were bloody young to, their young fellas played magnificently on the day.

Thanks for the reply Firebat....but I was referring to our young guys who like their young guys have played good games, and bad one's....on this occasion they played better...it's about team balance, consistency, belief, confidence, and spirit which our younger guys are still learning all about. Just because the Wobble's young guys played well this time doesn't set a precedent that they will continue too. Our guys need more game time exposure on the main playing arena....and they will develop accordingly like a roast lamb....from the outside in, meaning they have to be in to learn from it. Mistakes make better players, and improve team dynamics. Thanks.

What Joel did today in the third quarter was incedible. If he plays like that were stuffed.
I dont know what it is with Bastinac. Remember 2010. He was such a smooth mover of the ball a good link up player. In his first year where Boomer went he went and he excelled.

Mullett made some bad errors but otherwise played ok, was in our best dozen (not a big call either with how bad we played)

How anyone could prefer dropping him in preference to Jacobs or Macmillan (let alone the rest.....) must not have watched the game.

Don't forget their favourite whipping boys, too.:thumbsu: Players who some posters seem to love to criticise at every given opportunity, often on fairly spurious grounds. Tends to get a little repetitive after a while.

Anyhoo, fwiw (and as it's coming from me, that'd be very little) I can see Mullett being given another run next week.

Jacobs on the other hand.....

Interesting to see if Brad pulls the trigger on JMac. I won't be holding my breath.

Wish list:
Out: Jacobs, Mullett, MacMillan, Tarrant, Anthony
In: Daw, M. Wood, Hine, Ben Ross :D, McDonald :D, Ben Warren :D

Reality:
Out: Jacobs
In: McMahon
