Some of the things that really pi$$ed me off from the weekends loss have been expressed by most of you already but seeing i'm at work I'll kill some time and post anyway, firstly, I can take getting beaten, not a problem with it, don't like it but if we put in and show some fight then I'll except the loss, take some positives away and deal with it.

BUT

To perform the way we did against the Demons was pathetic, we were an unorganised rabble.
I had to sit and watch CJ try to hatch that dinosaur egg he had every time he had the ball, 20 feet in front of me on 2 occasions I saw Harding put a great block to give Thommo some space and CJ waiting for the T.REX to appear didn't pass it to him, honour the lead. I could hear melbourne players yelling out he wont pass it , he won't pass it and guess what they were spot on. In the 3rd when Thommo went to the ruck and Hale moved to FF we bought the ball in and both time it was kicked to CJ in a pocket with 2 on one and to Stevo 2 on 1, big H should have come and sat with me. At one stage they had 2 spare men in defence and CJ was screaming to a runner that they were there and who was missing and it took forever to get the matchups, we had an opportunity to showcase to some would be members the North Melbourne Football Club in Canberra and we dropped the ball with an inept display.
We need to improve our conversion rate, we don't send enough quality ball into our 50 to miss regularly, the amount of times early that we missed kickable goals and see the ball at the other end on harder angles getting nailed is frustrating. At the 3 quarter blast Arch was standing at the back of the group and I was thinking I'd like a penny for his thoughts. IMO he plays until he's ready to call it a day, how soft would we be at the ball if he didn't continue next year, he's not just in our best 22 he's in our best 5.

Cheers all.

>>> why is Thommo moving up the field to take marks on the flippin' wing ?? IT WAS DISGRACEFUL. The gameplan is a LOSERS mentality. !

All due respect Woodson but you have no idea what you are on about. On one hand you say a game plan with Rocca at FF and Tommo at CHF is the way to go but then you say it is DISGRACEFUL that Tommo is playing as a CHF should.

If a CHF isn't presenting up on to the wing and giving an option then how the hell can our HB line have the confidence to just drive the ball long to a contest.

All great CHF run hard enough to get marks on the wing but can then also work back to get the ball inside 50.

I really do think you are a long way off having any idea how to structure a game plan.

We played well last week except for some skill errors. Some lazy marking attempts, some stupid free in the F50 (Arch) and kicks off the mark that all esulted in goals. Therse are just skill errors and if we iron these things out then we will do fine. Driving the ball long into a congested challenge isn't going to provide any better ball to the forwards as everything will be contested.

The fact is there is time to drive the ball long and there is a time to switch the play to open the game up. This allows room for players to lead into.

Just relax we have won more games than we have lost, a pretty good effort by JYD really.

Mis-understood me Mav. I SAY it's DISGRACEFUL that someone like Thommo has to keep pushing up to take the MARKS on the wing ? what are the duties of the centreline / onballers ? With Thommo moving well away from goal range we have bugger all to aim for if we can't generate some fluent movement from the HB and have to STOP / START from the WING with a major tall taking up the slack is a great shame >>> heck, my annoyance has COST mE this time but I feel I should of made myself clear. Is that understood now ?

JYD may have had the same 'BLAST' I was referring to at 3/4 time, that really strangled our opportunities inside50.

IN-Motlop, Perry, Watson, Harris
Watson to replace M Stevens who does stupid stupid things with the ball, can't play down back, give Ash a run on the ball to give us some toe and skills around the pack
ash isn't in the list of inclusions this week unfortunately. hopefully a big game for port this week against coburg will see him in there next week.

....JYD thinks the team is premiership material ...Grant is extremely dodgey anywhere around the 50m line.

Think you've hit the nail on the head there Tas and this is the critical problem. JYD thinks the team is far better than it actually is. He is doing a Schwabby. Frankly, we are not going to win a flag with the current 22, ever. It is about time JYD rested players when they perform badly and gave some game time to younger players who just might take us to a flag.

And I beg to differ re: Shagger being a dodgey shot on goal from 50m, he's one of the few smaller players in our team who is accurate from this distance.

Another thing that killed us against Melb was our lack of midfield height. We have one of the shortest midfields going around- Harvey, Grant, Stevens, Rawlings, Harris, Sinclair, Wells, Makepeace, Archer (& Grima in 06)- all 180cms! Aside from Simmo & Firrito, we are short people, while Melbourne (& Geelong) have lots of tall midfielders, so we just can't match them in the air, consequently they killed us when they went forward.

In:Motlop, Haris
Out: Perkins, Stevo

MOtop in for obvios reasons, Perkins didn't do enough

Rocca will not get dropped, look at Lloydy, the dons hav't dropped him and he has been less affective than rocca. And as for thos who want colbert dropped, well let me tell you something, knoble, simmonds, Stafford, Richardson. mm... three of them oin the forward lineat any one time, without colbert we are stuffed, baird isn't up to it, and unless petrie plays back then we would be stuffed without colbert. Maybe bring in Perry to have a run swaping with colbert. But in fact i don't really se colbert being dropped. Maybe michael stevens could be dropped for watson, or shane harvey, he has played well in the VFL all year. GIve the kid a go, maybe him and motlop in the forward line would help. then CJ and turtle could push up the ground, where they can also do damage. If colby has his knee drained I think he wont play Mcintosh will and Petrie will play in the back line. And if Simpson doesn't get up I think Watson will, play.

SO maybe Idealy

Out: Stevo, Perkins, Simpson, Colbert
In: Harvey, Harris, Mcintosh, Watson

Woodson, if you look at each position on the field you can say that every player will at least run 50 meters from the designated spot. There for with CHF lining up on the 50 meter line it fair to presume that they will lead up the ground to get the ball. Any decent lead is then going to see the CHF on the wing or in the centre square. There will also be times that the CHF is expected to work forward of the 50 meter line to be at the goals.

Don't you remember Carey taking grabs just on or just forward of the wing, then with out breaking stride he swings onto his right and drilled it to the Horse.

Tommo is starting to do this and looks good when he does. We just need to deliver the ball a bit better to him from half back.

Watch Nick Revolting, Bronwnie (When he's not playing in the middle), Richo, Hansen, Playfair, or Tredda's they will all push up to take marks on the wing.

If you think it's disgraceful that Tommo is doing it then I suggest you go and watch Netball.

This is my assessment of each player today: Those who did not score at least a 5 would normally have to worry about their chance of playing next week but JYD is too afraid to make the big calls so I would assume all but one or two will still play.

Archer: Great game, was physical, was hard, attacked the ball, attacked the players, hit targets with passes. This guy is a legend to play like this at 32 with one hand gnawed off by a crocodile. :p

etc etc etc

Fantastic assessment Tas, among the best I've seen. Keep up the good work.

Netball ? Sometimes we all think we are watching netball >>> the game is just as SOFT & just as entertaining these days. ***yawn*** :p

I read you well on the other great CHF's taking uncontested marks on the wing >>> but what I'm hot n' bothered about is that our movement and TENACITY is way off the boil to trouble opposition teams.

Yeah, but the club want more members and JYD doesn't want to be the caretaker coach like Shimmer was so someone else can come in and take the glory (and the pay cheque). If our team doesn't go forwards it is only a matter of time until Laidley's head rolls. So the club wants to win games and make the finals, even if that means stumbling over the line and getting butchered in the first round.

And I beg to differ re: Shagger being a dodgey shot on goal from 50m, he's one of the few smaller players in our team who is accurate from this distance.

On the run he is a beautiful shot from 50m. From a set shot he has to push the kicks harder because he doesn't have the momentum and his accuracy is affected. Playing deep in the forward line is seeing him take marks from around 50m rather than run towards 50m from the midfield with the ball so does not have the momentum or balance that he has on the run. He should start his shot at goal from the middle of the ground and run in as if he was running towards from general play.

Another thing that killed us against Melb was our lack of midfield height. Height isnt a huge issue in my opinion if you are prepared to run. If Kouta or J Brown pick up one of our 170cm guys then they might get slaughtered in the air but our smaller guys should be able to outrun and outmaneuver them, there are pros and cons to being small or big.

Hehehe, I usually try not to be so negative but there were very few highlights. I think Melbourne played pretty ordinary that game and if they had played against almost any other side in the comp would have lost that game. It just highlighted how far off we were and a more serious problem, when we play bad we stink.

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if we played well this week. With North, it is a week by week proposition.
