Changes Vs The Dogs

Agree with all changes bar Wojac.

Not too sure if he is as important to us now as he once was. His run out of defensive is becoming increasingly more sparse.

Would personally leave one of either Hogan or Stokes in the side. Even though neither have been setting the world on fire lately.

surely kelly gets fitness and skills up in the 2's after missing 6 weeks of footy?

I get the impression that they will be looking to get our best structure back in as soon as possible. Get the team we want going into September, let them have a couple of rounds playing with each other, get that confidence and chemistry back, and let the match-fitness work up at the same time.

That is the way i would be going about it.

Kelly should get at least one week in VFL after so many weeks out. Stokes has been down on form lately, but it depends on who's available to come in. It would be great if Ottens and Chapman could come in just in time for the Bulldogs match.

With no bearing on our ladder position, will Kel be rushed straight back in?

Other than having more Dogs fan mates than any other team, I really don't care too much about this game, and would much prefer Otto get a run in the ones prior to the finals than anything else.

Will be interesting to see if Mooney gets rubbed out for that tap on O'keefe. You'd have to think Otto would definitely be played as a forward if he was.

Hogan needs to stay in the team IMO, he has great poise and seems totally unfazed by pressure.

Carnt see Kelly going straight in, wont hurt for him to freshen up for one week in the twos. I have to think that its time for Otto to have a run & should be joined by Chappy & Rooke.

think it will be Mumford, Varcoe & maybe Stokes (hope its not Hogan)

dont put kelly into the twos , games at afl level are at a much higher pace than vfl level.2 AFL games is what he needs to get back to his best.

ottens simply must play and I would give mumford a rest.
especially if conditions in the VFL are the same as they were yesterday, you just can't play any high standard footy in that wind

Disagree on the OP on all fronts.

-JK needs some game tiem in the VFL - You cant miss more than a month and come straight in.
-Blake wont get dropped after the game he played vs the Swans although I still hope Mumford plays finals.
-Ottens didnt look good in the VFL. WOuld rather him have another week but can play if Mooney suspended and play up forward.
- Hogan should not be dropped.
- To have 5 changes in one week is going to upset the team more than ever.

OUT: Varcoe (Inj), Stokes should be dropped, Mooney if suspended.
IN: Chapman, Rooke if fit, Otto only if Mooney is suspended

Ins- Ottens (now or never), Kelly (needs 2 games in the AFL), Rooke, Woja (need his run against Bulldogs), Milburn

Outs- Mumford (Blake was better last night and deserves another go), Varcoe (inj), Stokes (been useless for 2 months and Byrnes was good last night), Lonergan (no explanation necessary), Gillies (not deserved but has to go for team balance against bulldogs; stays in if Milburn doesn't come up).

i agree, we will basically be playing 21 v 22 if he plays.

he has been out way too long to come straight back in.

give him a midfield role in the 2's to get a bit of fitness back.

i was down there for the 2nd half and it was the stuff when the camera's werent on him.

I think you just have to chuck Kelly and Ottens in and see how the fit in. They won't be at their best and we shouldn't expect too much, but we simply have to get our best possible 22 on the park and get the team play rolling.

Ottens has to be able to play ruck, he serves no purpose to us as a slow big forward, we need him out in the middle of the field. Mumford looked allright last night and his tap work was a lot better, he should play if fit, Blake to go out. No point dicking around anymore, we should make calls on players right now. A strong Collingwood unit awaits us in the first round of finals and we need to bring our 'A' Game.

As I said, Hogan would be unlucky to miss but if we have the players fit that is the way it will most likely go.

As for not bringing back everyone in straight away, if 5 of your best 22 are ready to play two weeks before finals, of course you're going to bring them all in. It would be stupid not to.

I really think Kelly should come straight back in, if it was a couple of weeks ago then I would have brought him back in through the VFL but it's too close to finals now. He needs to play AFL.

The conditions in the VFL were shocking, Ottens was never going to have a blinder in a game like that. Again, with two weeks before finals he really needs to come back in now. He's had 3 weeks to find a bit of fitness and he has gotten through unscathed.

In my opinion it's imperative we get our best side on the park asap if we are to be any chance at winning a flag.

I would much rather Ottens and Kelly find some form playing in the 1s rather than the VFL.

Spot on.

People seem to be thinking to much of what Blake did i think. Yes our clearances were up but i am sure that was more to our midfield being back to being able to play properly and less because of Blake. I honestly believe it would be a horrible move to drop Mumford and keep Blake. Blake still doesn't have the willingness to go for the 2nd efforts. A few times last night i saw him tap it and then instead of going after the ball when there was nobody around them you could see him just take a few steps back and stand there waiting for someone else to get it. He has improved but still isn't at the right level and he needs more work before he will be.

I would like Kelly and Ottens to come in. Kelly doesn't really need time in the 2's and i think Ottens has spent enough time there. Whats the worst case? They are not in 100% form and don't play their best? Considering a win or loss doesn't really matter i think they need the higher intensity of an Afl game to be forced to play their best. In the vfl they would only need to play average to stand out where as in the Afl they would need to work a lot harder.

Putting Kelly into the 2's and/or making Ottens play another game in the 2's would be a rather stupid decision as they need to be back at Afl level asap if we want to give them the chance to be able to compete at Afl level come finals.

Spot on mate. Makes a ton of difference when Smithy can play in the guts rather than down back.

Everyone agrees that Blake played pretty well...everyone except Geelong Supporters.:rolleyes:
