Half of the players you listed above had rising star noms aka could play a bit, probably more than half of them ended up with long term injuries early in their career. One liked to play with big knives, one liked to eat turtles, and one couldn't handle his mates having a beer. Watts was ruined by one of the shittest head coaches in AFL history.

If you could foresee all those issues and injuries ruining our recruiting for the past 5 years you've been blessed and I'm sure all Dees fans would urge you to be sharing your gifts with our recruitment department ahead of time so we could lavish you with solid gold houses and rocket cars.

Again, excuses. Watts can't blame his career failings on shit coaches. He has had long enough to work out how to play football. He has no ticker. I am over the injuries excuse. If that is a problem, get a better medical department. I am over the recruitment failures, try and poach a better head recruiter. I am over the culture excuses, if that is the case, sort out the white collar culture of not getting your hands dirty and the 'Go Deeeees' mentality. Get footballers on the board, within the administration. Make this club about football. We are bloody laughing stock, because our supporters are all 'at the snow', as are half of our administration. Melbourne needs to inject some hard working blue collar people into our club to rattle the toff there. As a supporter, I am over the excuses.

You know when we should have sacked Neeld? The first time he mentioned the words 'Honourable Loss'. Right there you are making it ok to lose a game because we 'tried'. This club needs players and a mindset that says, 'I don't give a damn who we are playing this week, anything less than a win is not acceptable'. This club will go nowhere with players stuck in the past or not wanting to get better.

Lol, excuses.

We hired a better recruiter, we hired one of the best talent developers in the game, we fired half of our awful board etc etc
If it isn't happening quickly enough run for the board mate, show the Toffs how it's done :thumbsu:

We had some shit selections, but on the subject of Jurrah we were awfully unlucky. He looked like a once in a generation talent and AFAIK there was nothing to lead us to believe he'd go full jason voorhees.

Quoted for Jason Voorhees comparison. Gold.. :D

Was Shane Mumford's role in all this over looked though? '

'Mummy wants you to make them remember what fear tastes like, Liam!'

But surely you can see where I am coming from? Especially when we lose a game after being 4 points in front and not having the nous to play tactful football and drop players back to secure a win? I mean, really? Maybe I am being impatient, but the next 7 years had better be seriously better than the last. Lets just try and make a go of it against Geelong this week and try not to get fleeced by 186 points :)

This is the most important part of all. The tanking wasn't the primary issue for landing us where we are, being a severely fractured club is. We had a board that interfered and tried to set the tone for the football department. The strong clubs have a single vision and all head united in a single direction. Our collective have been heading forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards oblivion. We now (appear to) have a competent board who govern the running of the club and leave a strengthened football department to do their job. And I think there's a good chance that improvement will happen quicker than we think.

It's been a combination of bad administration, bad recruitment, bad development and bad luck (Scully, Trengove, Jurrah, Clark... Petracca). I want to believe that's behind us now, but I'm not convinced yet.

Don't include Perracca.

Hogan had his entire first season on the sidelines too, don't forget.

Is there any way we can pass a message on to the coaching group about manning up the spare in our forward line. MFC, where every hour is amateur hour!
I'm pretty sure Goodwin had a huge hand in how we lined up today.

Doesn't bode well.

I have no faith in Goodwin as Melbourne coach which is probably the most depressing realisation ever. Hes had two shots at essendon this year to utilise his inside knowledge and on both times he's failed miserably. I cringe every time he speaks aswel, its embarrassing.

If PJ and Roos have f'd up this selection it will undo all the good work they have done so far.

I reckon they put a lot of eggs in the Dew basket in 2013/14 and were left running around when he didn't come to find someone.

What intrinsic knowledge about Essendon's game plan could he have shared that we couldn't already figure out just by watching today. Kick long to Daniher.

Just watched Roos media conference, predictably blamed poor goal kicking. The difference in set shots was 19 to Essendon and 25 to us, so it's not as though we were blowing them off the park other than poor goal kicking. That was an atrocious loss. It was a second string Essendon side that we should have belted by 10+ goals. We are now well behind St Kilda. I'm at a loss as to where we go from here. Roos has one more season before he disappears and there's every chance we are still bottom 5 when he finishes.
If we do nothing else with the rest of 2015 I hope that it's jettisoning Dawes into deep space.

Six shots is 36 points. A reasonable difference.

Also when they had momentum they nailed everything in that 3rd, when we had momentum in the 2nd and the start of the first we kicked 3.13 or something crazy.. We kick the goals when we had momentum we win.. simple

It looked like we were happy to have an extra player around the ball, and let them have the extra in defence.

To be fair, it was working (65% of the first half was played in our end of the ground).

The way to combat it is usually for one of the forwards to go 2-on-1, and force a contest. But we didn't do it. I put that down to the players (Hogan and Dawes primarily) rather than the strategy to be honest.

That would have been the reason he threw McDonald forward in the last quarter - he needed someone who would provide a contest up forward.

Crazy that Mcdonald was also presenting far better than Hogan and Dawes as well, got 3 marks from leads? Hogan and Dawes took 2 inside 50 between them for the game

Roos knew McDonald would work hard. He wasn't up there to kick goals, more just to present and bring the ball to ground. It was a good coaching move I thought.

Pity McDonald kicks like a defender, he could have won the game if he kicked straight.

We got to within 2 points with 7 minutes still on the clock, McDonalds kicking didnt cost us anything, it was the inability of our side to make use of our inside 50s
