Review Comeback Kings Do It Again - Freo by 27 Points Over Carlton

Final result reflected the talent differences in the squads, and some great second half performances from our key players.
Both teams kicked well for goal given the conditions, but if Carlton had been a little better in goal kicking that last quarter would have been even more of a stress.

Can't keep taking so long to adjust tactics and move players around though if we expect to compete against top teams.

Just absolutely bizzare how poorly prepared we are for the lower ranked teams at the start of games, and how little changes or adjustments get made to shape, tactics or manning up during the actual in game first and second quarters.

Really hope the selections for the Port game show some changes, can't keep trotting out the same players who do nothing for 3 quarters game after game after game.

Fitness and structure won the day, two things the Blues don't have.

3 talls creating space for each other was great, Murphy Reid's taps to space and to himself are incredible. Forwards pressure and tackling in the second half was immense.

On the down side, our inaccurate handballs in the first quarter were painful.

We started like we had had a big night on the beers. 4 goals down just before quarter time.
Very upsetting to lose Youngy in the second quarter.
We came out with great resolve after half time. Amiss and Treacy were outstanding after half time. Dudley found the goals at last.
Serong worked his way back into the game after a tight tag in the first half.
The three amigos were outstanding in the final quarter, Voss, Treacy and Amiss well done.
Thanks for the percentage boost tankers.

Also I thought Ras did pretty well when he came on, part of the change in inside mid contests that turned the game.

Clarky our highest disposal winner, what a season he is having.

I still don't believe Longmuir is the coach to take us to a flag but 10 (?) Wins from our last 11 is pretty hard to argue with, even with how poor we are at times.

O'Meara is such an almost player. He is almost elite. I think it was around the 12 minute mark of the 3rd quarter where he willed a clearance after 4 repeat efforts, crashing and bashing like a mad man. Immediately turned the clearance over to a Carlton player.

So glad we are going with Dudley despite conditioning. Sometimes you just have to play actual footballers.

Young out is terrible but we are surely locked into the 8 now.

Right?

He's an elite player in the twilight of his career. Putting him in the middle changed the game after half time.

Worner also played his best game for the club tonight.

Right?
Duds is a key to our drive and when he is rotated into the midfield and on ball in short bursts just shows how hard he can tackle, plus he gets to the spilled ball really well instinctively.

We needed him today especially as Freddy and Bolton were both way off it and not used well structurally.

69 to 18 in the second half, love the fight back from the boys.

Imagine if we started the game like that, would’ve been a belting. It’s the only thing that our team can’t do just yet but we’re getting there.

Surely finals is actually a lock now?

Had a bad feeling at the start because there was no atmosphere at the ground. Low crowd, bad weather, a supposed easybeat. Players were flat.

NOD was chatting in a friendly manner with Acres on the wing after his goal, having a laugh and gave him a low five ... I didn't like that and showed me we weren't really taking them seriously enough. It took a while for it to dawn on them that this was going to be a fight.

And give credit to Carlton. Their effort and tackling intensity was through the roof. Shits me how many poor teams do that against us, but mail it in against Geelong, Dogs, etc. Guarantee Port will turn up after rolling over for 2 X 90 point beltings and will throw the kitchen sink at us.

I reckon JOM was the one who turned the game. He really got to work in the clinches and I take my hat off to him.

Once again a side came to Optus and thru everything, EVERYTHING at us. Cripps is an absolute monster albeit one that has thrown the ball since 2015.
The leaders, Treacy, Serong, Andy et al lifted when we needed them. Bolts has struggled a bit recently but his effort in the last to sprint and tackle Saad that led to Voss’s goal was great.

Credit to JL and JOM for helping turn around the clearance situation and allowing guys like Serong to work their way into the game by tagging Hewitt.

Would prefer not having the stress of gutsy comebacks against crap teams but credit to the boys for getting it done.

Does Brayshaw have anything to worry about?

Youngy injured or just awareness and precautionary?

Jordy Clark! Spiritual captain.
Clarky is really growing into that role down back, taking over from Ryan as the captain of the back half and creator of damaging rebounds. Just wish we would set up structures to use it productively in a planned way, instead of just relying on Clarky's innate run and natural talent to just create by themselves.

Also thought Cox was good defensively today, conversely Banfield just doesn't have quite the instincts of a true backman when under pressure. Chapman is running on very thin ice in my view, never seems to get much scrutiny yet really was exposed in the first half yet again by very poor quality opponents.

I think we need to beat port.
Hawks decent chance against the pies

Worst case scenario is going into our last 2 games needing to win to make it because atm I don’t think we’re good enough (yet) to tople brissy and bulldogs

I could definitely see and feel that. Don't know if it's a late Sunday but everything seemed flat and lacking any enthusiasm. It was even a slog to watch it at home.

We definitely woke up in the third and the crowd did to to an extent but, geez, we leave late sometimes.

JOM getting into oppo players is what I want to see from all our guys. Needs more mongrel out there.

Do that for two halves. It’s a 100 point win.

That first half better be reviewed, learned and never repeated.

I gave out the whinge and concerns so it's more than fair to acknowledge credit is due to the leadership group, including Longmuir for adjusting, lifting but maintaining some calm and belief that they could do it.

Cox had an amazing game, Jackson, the 3 Tall forwards, Serongs last quarter, Omeras last half. A lot to genuinely like
