I've come around to thinking he's essentially there wearing Michael Firrito's number and playing Michael Firrito's role.

But IMO Spud was a bit more effective. Luke has perhaps a technically better kick but Spud could take a larger range of opponents, bring more physicality to more contests and burst through the lines a bit more, even if he wasn't a silky player himself.
Spud was one of the most under rated players we had since our last premiership.

TMH, what utter tripe. He’s never been a consistent kick - the ball drop is far too high - and he’s slow over the ground. I get that we all want to be supportive of our players and talk them up, but reckon you’ve jumped the shark here ….
He’s not a great player, period.

No way he plays for Richmond with Houli and Short.

He is a long way behind Salem but you could mount a case of him being of more use than Hibberd.

THE NOBLE QUEST
The first two months of last season were horrid and at one stage people were wondering whether the Roos might go through the year without a win. But victory did come in round 9, and they went on to another three. The second half of the season was far more promising as players got coach David Noble’s game plan working and began to hit the scoreboard. Noble is on a rolling contract rather than a fixed deal and needs his side to show more development. His job’s safe enough, but he wouldn’t want another wooden spoon.

CAN HORNE- FRANCIS LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

Who has more hype going into round 1 – Collingwood’s Nick Daicos or No.1 draft pick Jason Horne- Francis? Close call, but you’d have to go with the Roos wunderkind. North was so keen on him it turned down three first-round picks from Adelaide to ensure it got the South Australian. The hype comes off the back of a 20-game season in the SANFL last year. In the preliminary final against Glenelg, he kicked three goals from 24 disposals, which included 18 contested possessions, 11 clearances, 10 score involvements and 160 Champion Data ranking points. An absolute moral to make his debut in round 1.

CAN THEY START BETTER?
The Roos lost their first four games by an average of 70 points last year in a brutal welcome to AFL senior coaching for Noble. They wouldn’t want a similar start here. Round 1 against Hawthorn at the ‘G looms as their most winnable game early.

HOW ABOUT GREENWOOD?
The Roos had the worst midfield in the AFL last year. They were 18th in contested possessions, 17th in stoppage clearances and 16th in total clearances. The numbers don’t lie. The shock acquisition of Hugh Greenwood from Gold Coast late last year was an unexpected bonus and is a welcome addition. He should improve them around the contests.

CHAMPION DATA SAYS
1. The Kangaroos averaged just 66 points a game last season – their lowest ever recorded in a season.

2. North Melbourne scored from 39 per cent of its inside-50 entries last season – ranked 18th.

3. From rounds 13-19, North outscored rivals by 12 points a game from turnovers – ranked No.2.

4. From rounds 13-19, the Kangaroos averaged 34 points from defensive half chains – ranked No.2.

OUT R.Tarrant (Tigers), S.Atley, T.Campbell, T.Dumont, C.Ham, T.Garner, C.Menadue, D.Tyson, W.Walker (delisted).

Mahony won't be the sub.

I didn't rate the end of his tenure at North but I think that's a bit harsh.

It’s was extremely harsh by samsqutch but there is something that annoys me about his tenure and the regard he’s held in by the industry.

Soooooo singing a song sung by another team is a big rivalry maker is it, for * sake footy media is finding inventive and new ways of plumbing to new depths.

Footy is making me grumpy these days

Ok. Ok. I'll change slimy to smarmy.

I couldn't stand him as a player and that was unchanged from day one when he was appointed as north coach until the day after his appointment ended and he appeared on tv wearing a north shirt.

Ive watched this ******* garbage on Stan, “show me the money” … what is even the ******* point of a player manager? Im not sure there is even a need for it. These campaigners are the biggest crumbs. As if a player, even the dumbest campaigner player couldn’t negotiate a deal better than these campaigners? Hows the campaigner “doing it for Benny Hill” .. what an influence player managers have. Finlayson deal did itself because McCartney isnt a ***********. What parasites, ALL OF THEM..

Also Sonsie turned to water at pick ******* 28! Wont cut the mustard. Take the aggot off him in the contest and he’ll run to mummy. * me!

Bit harsh on Sonsie but yes he was always getting picked, just a question of when.

Adelaide sang 'Hearts to hearts' after the granny of the year that shall not be mentioned. The North boys heard about it, were p..sed and proceeded to flog Adelaide when they played them the following season.

Didnt' make up for you know what though.
