Time to move on from Healy after these games. Has been utterly pathetic in t20i's the last few years. Redmayne straight in would be my pick but possibly a chance to push Harris to the top of the order and start to blood a young gun lower down the order. Reminder that Mooney batted as low as 8 when they started to give her chances in this side around 2016/17. Haynes is nearly 36 too so we need to start looking to the future as far as I am concerned.

Great game

Australia played a bit below par on the day, India played as good as they could.

The key moments , were where Australia won it.

Very consistant performance by Australia throughout the tournament, only used 11 players and all contributed although Healy, Haynes and Lanning would be a little disappointed they didn't make a greater contribution with the bat, but perhaps that is a good sign that our younger players like Gardner, McGrath, King and Brown can take a greater role and perform at the top level.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens with this team over the next 18 months or so, there a couple that are nearing the end of their careers.

For some reason I think it would be hard to move her on.

Her name alone , means she is a selection in the side. But hey if they moved on from a player like Ellyse Perry , who I thought would be a lock for this kind of format, then they can do it to Healy as well I guess.

I havent seen enough or remember if there are wicket keepers depth in the WBBL or who is good enough to push the door to get a spot ahead of Healy though.

One thing I have learnt from this tournament is how good Ash Gardner is . Very underrated as I honestly never thought she had that in her.

Great fielder, power hitter and took wickets at a cheap economy rate. You could make the case she is the most important Australian player in this format right now.

With a womens T20 World Cup next year, do feel though this is a team not as good as say 2 years ago. Possibly due to a slightly ageing squad. If you have a few players exiting all at the same time , it may have an impact on the development of the whole team. It does take a good chemistry and blending for a team to perform well. That I wont question about this current Aus team.

Mooney is a keeper so giving her the gloves is an option, Redmayne is the best of the rest

I actually think the few test matches that Gardner has played has improved her T20 cricket, especially her batting, she looks a lot calmer at the crease and builds her innings early before taking on the bowling when she feels comfortable. I hope she brings this into the WBBL late this year, because she has struggled the last couple of seasons.

You would think that Haynes would consider retirement after next years World Cup, Healy's position is perhaps under threat because her form has been a patchy for the last 2 years. Lanning has just turned 30 but everyone else is under 30 so you would think that a majority of the team will still be around for another 4 or 5 years at least.

It will be interesting to see who they would bring in to replace Haynes when she retires, Katie Mack had a brilliant WBBL last season and is only 28, but Litchfield is a youngster coming through that many have high hopes for, she is also a left hander which the coaches like. Molineax is also an option but her batting has fallen away in recent seasons.

As for Healy's replacement, Redmayne is a possibility, but Mooney is a wicketkeeper and is already in the team. The coaches may look at bringing another specialist batter as our batting was the biggest problem at the Commonwealth games.

The Healy thing is tough as you don't want to hurt Mooney's form and she's literally our most important bat! I'd be hesitant to then give her the responsibility of being the keeper as well. Tough one. Doubt they make the call till after the WC anyway. Think people have to calm their jets a bit as the whole side was coming into these games with no cricket, we are just that good as we can win regardless of being in form.

The one I'll throw up for the middle order bat is Georgia Voll, for me Phoebe Lichfield is a few years away though having her replace Perry in the squad is a good idea, not as if Perry is playing anyway.

Voll is another one worth looking at, I think Litchfield is a little ahead her in terms of development and success, at least in the WBBL, and has played at Australia A level. I think both have strong futures but I have Litchfield slightly ahead at the moment.

Yeah fair, just not sure on Lichfield in t20, always comes across as a bat that like Perry will be better the longer the match. You are probably right though. Mind you we need to develop a few keepers there isn’t a standout after Healy.

After Mooney who is 29 and Redmayne who is 28 there are a few 22 years old coming through the WBBL in Dooley (Renegades), Faltum (Stars) and Wilson (Thunder), I'm not sure how they are progressing but they may be worth watching during the upcoming WBBL season.

Was wondering why Tahlia McGrath name was trending on Twitter today..

Quote from her:

“At the end, screw it. If we get Covid, so be it.”

I read this earlier tonight - interesting to see things from an athlete's perspective, but does kinda raise the question of why McGrath took a test as it doesn't seem to have been a requirement

Well we all know it was going to happen lol people aren’t missing a final for what is a small flu for most especially professional athletes lol

Haven’t seen too much of the first two bar the WBBL. Seen a bit of Wilson not terribly convinced on her but could be wrong. Feel they might look at Mooney keeping (maybe dropping down to Haynes position. Just an idea I guess

The thing with the Australian team is, if one or two fail on their day, you have another good player that can pick up the slack.

In this tournament, Beth Mooney, Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath, Ash Gardner and Meg Lanning have picked up the slack when others have underperformed on their day.

Healy though has been a consistent failure with the bat. And if the team didnt win gold here, she would have been definitely under alot more pressure.

Old networks though and reputation are a hard thing to take off. You dont just go out and sack the best player 2 years ago at the WT20 in Australia. However, like someone else mentioned here, if there was a failure with the bat again, and Aussies didnt win the WT2020 in 2023 in South Africa, her spot would definitely be under pressure.

I see we win another competition for the discussion in here to centre around the players who didn't play well and who should replace them.

We will never be satisfied.

Such is the standard of Australian cricket fan.

I think that can be a good thing to. Teams should always look to improve their performance to keep that edge.

Anyway the next years world cup, do feel the gap between India and Australia is narrowing.

Yeah I felt that way about the fan base of the Melbourne Demons last year. They celebrated winning the grand final and you can see they lost their edge as a direct result of that.

In the aftermath the discussion should have centred around the performances of Kysaiah Pickett and Charlie Spargo and whether they should remain in the side the next season.
