Mod. Notice Competitions: READ BEFORE POSTING A COMPETITION

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Apart from the FFL, if you go by posting date in this thread, the CCRC is actually the next non-AFL league competition in the queue.

I thought NM_Mitchell posted interest in running his basketball comp before Spanna posted about running CCRC again. But either way, I mean, I'm more excited about the basketball competition but I'll go with the flow. Plus, FFL is only a short comp anyway.

Plus, knowing you, you've probably already done your CCRC designs anyway. ;)

CCRC was mentioned in late Dec, basketball early Jan.

There may have been some trial designs made up to test out how they look on my template, and a modified logo created..........but certainly nothing is finalised.........mostly because we don't know how each design has to look this year and what designs will be required so I can't finish them!!!!!

This is why we need a calendar.

Would be happy to create an editable calendar to put in the OP.

Is FFL just going to be run as a round-robin this time? If so, it's not going to be bad to have two competitions running at once. If Spanna_ is ready to run CCRC then by all means go ahead but if he's not then there is no reason NM_Mitchell shouldn't start the basketball competition as I know he has everything ready for it.

I'm saying nothing against two at a time. I'm just saying it would much easier to figure out if we had a place to write this down as they come up.

The FFL will be 6 to 8 rounds, depending number of teams, followed by top 8 finals.

This is going to wind up like test cricket: a rolling four-year schedule of competitions.

We're probably gonna have a shortage of comps come June or so, where it'll just be the Can-Am

I think rugby can come in then. TBH I'm seeing more hype for the basketball comp.

Poll! Ideally basketball would have happened during the NBL/NBA seasons. Rugby goes until September so there's plenty of time for that.

There's nothing really wrong with both running at once, even if they are staggered by just a few weeks.

I've been gearing up for the basketball comp but that's only because its basketball season and I've been working on a template.

I'll enter both regardless

Id be happy for both the rugby and basketball ones to run at the same time. I mean originally it was gonna be FLO but I put that aside specifically for the basketball comp.

See no problem with a four week stagger

Is everyone ok with me posting the CCRC Bidding thread now?

I was thinking about how to do a weekly competition without simply repeating something, and I came up with a league/weekly cross competition. So, here goes.

The Australian Special Event Knockout (ASEK)
  • Participants submit a bid for a team, based on a real location in Australia, with a nickname. All bids are allowed into the competition, this is just so that there are no identity clashes.
  • Participants will then submit a 'home' jumper, that doesn't have to represent anything specifically.
  • There will then be a poll to decide on seeding (multiple choices will be allowed, depending on the number of entries)
  • Then, the top (2/4/8/16/32 etc, maximum possible for straight knockout) will pass into the knockout stage, and it will basically be a straight knockout competition
  • At each round of the bracket, participants will be given a theme to design to. They will have 1 week to design, then a 1 week poll for the round. This will continue until we have a winner.

Also, a few other things
  • I'd rather not judge whether a jumper meets the theme or not, I think that's best left to the voters
  • Given how full people's lives can be, I'm happy to extend the time restraints a little bit if I get notified a few days before the deadline.

If there's things that need fixing, please let me know

A knock-out comp could be really cool, I'd be keen.

It'd be cool to do one every few months. Seeding might be difficult to get accurate through a single poll, you'd probably have to use past results in other comps to get it right.

Mmmm yeah that's a good point. I'll think about some other options as well.

If we do this every few months, rankings will start to appear after a couple of times. Just for the first comp, use a poll for rankings, then use the rankings points.

I'd recommend harry to use the Tennis rankings system, as it has been shown to be effective.

Love the idea, but as NM_Mitchell said, results from one poll aren't always the most accurate.

Maybe we could have multiple grading polls, like so (using 8 teams as an example):

Poll 1
Hobart v Sunshine Coast
Adelaide
v Brisbane
Gold Coast v Canberra
Perth v Melbourne

Poll 2

Div 1
Sunshine Coast v Gold Coast
Melbourne
v Adelaide

Div 2
Hobart v Canberra
Brisbane v Perth

Poll 3
1-2 Seed Playoff
Gold Coast v Melbourne

3-6 Seed Playoffs (Seeds determined by point difference)
Sunshine Coast 7-3 Brisbane
Adelaide 4-6 Hobart

7-8 Seed Playoff
Canberra v Perth

The seeding would be...

1. Gold Coast
2. Melbourne
3. Sunshine Coast
4. Hobart
5. Adelaide
6. Brisbane
7. Perth
8. Canberra

...and the knockout would continue.

Imagine we did a ranking system for FJGD designers.

Yeah this is a good idea - simple to administer, and very fair and objective.
