Martin’s skills aren’t even that good. A flop of a player unfortunately
I remember him being marketed as the best player of all time back in the day. O'Meara too. Both have ended up pretty spudly.

Makes you wonder if GC's below par system has ruined them or if they were always just not that good ultimately.

O’Meara was that good but his knees really dropped him back to the pack

A young Martin in a 2019 Richmond programme would have been a much better player. He is icing not cake. I still think he was over hyped but going to the Suns really screwed him up

He's put together some great form playing SANFL seniors recently. I can't figure out why he didn't get drafted, he's a very good talented player, captain of his state so has leadership and was all Australian. Must be something why he's not been drafted...
My view is if we are going to take someone at the MSD it should be youth like Paton. Get 6 months in the the system and a big preseason. I feel like he will be one of those players in a season or 2 playing SANFL that AFL clubs won't be able to ignore and when he gets taken, the talk will be 'how did he get missed at the draft'.

I would have had him on my list but we passed on him in the rookie draft last year despite his position being an area of need and I can’t see what he’s done this year to change the club’s opinion. The considerations I’ve come up with are either we rated Rawlinson very, very highly or we view Patton as a KPD who is too small for AFL. Also have to wonder why Crows and Port looked past him. In our system I would have hoped he’d be more of a third tall/distributor. I’d be delighted to give him a chance if he is over his injuries this year and his shoulder from his draft year but I just don’t think the club shares that view.

Would Josh Battle be worth going after? RFA at the end of the year. He would be a big upgrade on Josh Rotham.

True but Buss & Bazzo would idealy be the Gov replacement long term with Battle as a 3rd tall in the Rotham mold. Also he fits that age demo we lack.
I think Rotham is sitting in Bazzo's spot anyway and if we got Buss, that 3rd tall spot is between those two, and we still have Gov for 1 more year and TB for a few more. Battle doesnt have a spot.

If we dont get Buss or Bazzo shows no signs of improving his groin issues then Battle becomes a better option imo

With his twin brother Jack absent, Matt Whitlock was relocated from his usual key defensive post into the forward line and responded with a bag of five goals. Cal Twomey referenced this game on his show Gettable in suggesting that Matt is now in the top 10 conversation and the numbers do look impressive. A number of his goals did have an element of luck however, with a couple of free kicks as well as two over the back run in's to open goal. He was largely beaten in aerial duals, although he did manage to pull down some impressive marks.

Jamieson has a spot in defense when he returns , been very good this year until injured .
Don't forget him
Bazzo is an important player going forward also .
Don’t see Jamieson as a lock in defence at all. Don’t get the hype about him.

Fifth year on the list, 24 this year, 17 games. Failed ruckman, can’t play forward, so he has to be a defender. Frequently injured. Did a few good things along with lots of bad.

He tries hard but I think we have a lot better options than him. The team is going nowhere if trying hard is the criterion for inclusion.

Some big guys take a while to develop and he hasn't looked out of place in the backline despite being very new to the position. He's 200cm, agile and quick for his size. Definitely worth persisting with especially as you see the dearth of Key backs around the league. Mckay just got paid 800k+ and whilst I'm glad the Eagles didn't do that, we should be keeping him on the list.

Worth keeping as cheap depth, but not even close to best 23 if we have everybody fit

Frees up McGovern to play as a roaming backman which was working a treat until Jamieson injury.
Yep, but most teams dont have 2 super dangerous talls you really have to worry about so the team can help free up Gov, and if fit Bazzo is probably in the team ahead of Jamo. If we get Buss then Jamo is even further down the list

If we want a lock down 200 cm KPD, why not Livingstone. He has a certain niggle about him that I would attach as a positive attribute for playing on the King/Thilthorp/Darcy type.

Start the training now and see if he can be the man over the next two seasons. He certainly has the attitudinal and physical requirements of what I would like to see as a requirement.

Martin and O'meara were managed horribly by Gold Coast. I still think if (and its a big if) Martin stays fit, it will be huge for Carlton.
