Yet not the 1-19 dead last team?
yes.
We have KPF depth and more talented youngsters, most clubs dont.
Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Dees, North, Port, Richmond, Saints and Swans likely wouldve played him regularly this year.
Let's not get carried away here, he is no guarantee to make it as an AFL footballer.

CDT is making his VFL debut tomorrow, let’s see if he looks comfortable at that level, personally I’d be so flat if we picked him, has shown little against good competition and doesn’t even dominate the ruck at Coates League level.

Way too much boom or bust about him, would rather just invest heavily in Archer becoming that secondary ruck / forward.

Duursma and Sharp at 1 and 2 is a perfect combination, but I’d imagine we split one of the picks.

I don’t want to cross tag posters (I’m not sure if that’s allowed) but Smythe on the draft board had mentioned we are into Jacob Blight who is OOC

23 year old 196cm KPD. Wouldn’t cost much but I am not against the idea of some additional depth in that space.
I’m a little surprised Tigers haven’t resigned Blight perhaps we may have been talking to his agent during the season about a position for Blight at WCE in 2026 ..

Rucks are valuable, it's just you can get good ones for picks 40+ historically and they take many years to reach potential.

With 4-5 list spots already dedicated to rucks we have to be patient or if we do chase a 'ready-made' player not over spend.
I’m not advocating for taking CDT, I’m advocating for fixing our ruck situation. We cannot go into 2026 with Flynn and Baz as our best two and think it will be any different than the last two years.

Looks like Oscar is out the door hopefully we get first round compensation.

If Oscar doesn't get band 1 I'll eat all of my hats.
Take it to the bank I reckon. If we haven't put up much of a fight (seems we haven't) we obvs know contract will trigger band 1.
If Mckay & Battle & Perryman contracts trigger band 1, Oscar's will.
Putting a fit Oscar in Lions forward line with Morris (& piss off Sam day) boosts them a lot

WCE Offseason
Thoughts?

Trades
-pick 2 + 19 traded for GC pick 7 + 13 + 15
-Jack w + 2026 3rd round pick for Judd Mcvee
-Liam Ryan to Essendon for pick 26
-Bailey Williams to Collingwood for a fourth round pick

Draft {without academy picks}
1 Willem Duursma {transition mid}
7- cummings {Do it all mid, brayshaw type}
12 Jevan Phillopu {Transition mid}
13Noah Hibbens {X factor forward}
15 Harley Barker {winger with crazy speed and endurance}
Wes Walley (x factor forward)
Koby Evans (pressure forward)
Tylah Williams (hard running / pressure forward, jamie cripps type)
Charlie Banfield (Utility)

-Wce go high upside with all there picks, cummings being the safest pick. Eagles mainly address the fwd line and midfield through this draft and trade period while also adding Mcvee to help in the backline. Eagles add speed, endurance and transition players through the midfield. They also add X factor, defensive pressure in the forward line. Hopefully eagles can add or trade for a ruck.

note - eagles also get 2 addition rookie list spots from the afl

Undervaluing BW here, hes worth far more than a throwaway pick worth basically nothing.
If we arent trading him for a player we want or as part of a pick upgrade hes not worth trading, especially as you didnt add any other ruckmen to the list

Unders on Ryan too, unless that pick 26 went into a pick upgrade. That pick 26 will likely be useless to us otherwise(itll blow out to mid 30s and we lack list spots to take someone here anyway)

3 mids with our first 3 picks is probably overcommitting to the one part of the field, especially as you have a winger coming too.

Id prefer Farrow with one of the pick 13 or 15, I think id pass on NHH.
Maybe if Schubert or Marsh are still there at 7 id take one of those over Cumming, keeping Duursma, Phillipou and Farrow as midfielders(Farrow can also be half back)

Did anyone watch aflw last night.

What did you notice about stoppages....

Hint, umpires didn't wait for rucks to arrive and threw the ball up immediately.

Along with no sub and 5 on the bench what are consequences next year.

Heres my take
2 rucks to played in every side, with very little time on bench and more time rested forward. One will responsible for 2/3 of stoppages in the centre and back half, the other rested forward for deep forward stoppages. All to ensure one of them makes the ball up. Rotating of course.

The other consequence will be that teams won't be able to rely so heavily on stoppage set plays the way the game has gone now. You won't see as many stoppages with 20 blokes in set positions. Ie more kaos. This will effect teams who rely on stoppage craft as there one wood and will favour ball in motion kaos teams more.

So, how do recruit/draft for this. You need mobile rucks. Do you need gut running gaff types who have the capacity to be at every stoppage or players with speed and movement patterns to get through the kaos.?

Interesting.

With less time to set up stoppages that means less structure and time to tag or target the top mids.

Can see how throwing it up would keep the game moving and generate more quality clearances.

Less time for the rolling maul to form.

It’s fairly simple…if it’s band 1, we shake hands and say thanks for everything Oz, it’s best for both parties etc. If it’s band 2 we match & force a trade/up the offer to satisfy and he stays an Eagle.

I’d be shocked if clubs aren’t well aware of expected compensation return before it’s announced publicly

The club submitting the offer is told the compensation before it is officially lodged.

Go back and watch games from the 80's and 90's. Umps blow the whistle for ball up quickly and then just get on with it quickly and they managed this without 4 of them.

This is right on the money .

We need a ruck that will come in and at least half the tap outs .

But we should be reserving our top picks for fixing our midfield that is in the same dire state .

IMO we go hard for Reidy offer 3 years with a great first year $ to get him over since we have a mountain of cap space to hit the cap floor .

we then need to pick up a young developer either in the rookie draft , mid season draft 2026 or next national draft .

I really like benjy van rooyen. The kid is a bean pole atm but is already 203cm at the start of this season as an under ager.
What he does have is an appetite for the contest throwing himself in the ruck against more developed kids in the u18s .

Exactly. Causes more kaos ball, doesn't reward teams that have stoppage set play dominance. Coaches in the off season will train for it especially BC teams won't have time to flood back and set up behind the play.

I still have PTSD from trading pick 3 last year. Please stop, as I'm melting 🫠

No trading picks 1 and 2!!!!!!

We should trade pick 1 or 2 if someone is desperate to pays overs for Duursma or CDT and we rate other players higher.

We are talking about Essendon and Richmond here.

Keep one selection for who we rate highest.

Generate two qualty picks from the trade and land two of Cumming, Lindsay, Phillapou, Greeves, Grgl or use the 3rd early fist rounder on the best tall or March.

2 mids Sharp and Cumming
1 tall Shubert or Marsh
2 mids / utilities with 14 Farrow, 19 Rodreguez

Other option in play is trade for the Suns or Blues 1st that will likely be burnt on a bid.

Pick 1 Duursma
2 Sharp
8/9 Cumming / Phillapou / Shubert / Marsh
14 Farrow / Rodreguez
19 Curtin?

What will pick 8/9 cost in a trade? Swans also likely to trade out their 1st with the King bid.

Starcivich and steele look like both could be taken on the cheap . Brisbane would probably be happy to get a pick upgrade considering they will get zero compensation for him after taking Allen.

Steele looks to be replaced in the saints midfield. Saints bringing in big money players and need money to up windhagers offer .

Out wce pick 32
In starcivich and steel

Out bris starcivich 42
In pick 32

Out saints steele
In pick 42

Will teams still have to nominate rucks ?

Might see some mid vs mid ball ups .
