It would probably be considered a massive faux pas to wave the cheque book at somebody all year and then pull the offer a week before trade week. But we probably can and should have a clause in the contract that the contract is void if he is medically retired from concussion. Even that will be looked at dimly. But we can't offer a bloke with concussion issues a contract as long as that with no clauses in it. We can't let our desperation to attract some talent blind us to reality.

Most clubs give the player a medical and then offer a contract. We should be able to change our offer.

Defence and contested football wins flags.

What ever we do these are our priorities.

Luxury players like BSmith are the icing in the cake, when you enter a window.

We need hard nosed mids and defenders

Fletcher huge
Andrews huge
Starcevich shut danger down
Ashcroft 10 tackles 11 clearances
Zorco 709 metre gained
Neale 17 and 7 clearances in a half.

If the contract is three years or less there are protections. This article is very unclear but it looks like if a player retires from concussion then clubs are protected from getting the payout in the salary cap issue (but they still pay the player). At the least the Starc offer needs to be max 3 years based on this

I am sure we will be able to do it within the rules. But will the club be able to handle being cast as the bad guy for changing the offer at the last minute or pulling it altogether? We will get slagged off by the media for doing it.

Faux pas? It's a business. We'd be mad to offer someone (reportedly) 6 years when they have concussion issues... even moreso given our experiences with Venables, Shepard and McGovern.

I couldn't care less about making a faux pas.

What is the ruling regarding medical retirement?

Hypothetically, in a shit scenario, Starcevich is an Eagle and is retired due to AFL Concussion rules and being forcibly medically retired, does that not mean his contract his pad out or settled via insurance? Therefore not apart of the salary cap.

I'll keep saying it, we should be Jed ear from the day he was drafted but I would be lining it up for 2026. If GCS bring in JUH or Curnow it only limits his opportunity and a move will be forthcoming. We just need to sell it....which seems to be quite difficult.

And throw some ****ing cash at Neale, his experience and professionalism would move mountains within our playing culture supported by Baker / Yeo.

Can't see why Starcevich wouldn't do the same thing if Brisbane are offering a very similar deal to us.

I think he only leaves if he thinks the apparent 900k a year for six years is just too good to pass up. Sure, being a triple premiership player sounds good, but taking care of your family for a generation or two would be pretty f*cking swell.

His ass is getting paid whether he sees out the entirety of the contract or not.

Also stoppages and territory over transition football every day of the week.

Small forwards are proving pretty handy in finals too - Cameron tipped the game Brisbane’s way late in the 3rd quarter
