I wonder if they can include in the contract a limited pay out in the case of medical retirement due to concussion? Probably the Players Association would kick up a massive stink about it.

I thought CTE could only be confirmed post mortem?

The team can no longer play Mr Nice Guy. It is time to be ruthless in order to not be disadvantaged.

They aren't too pleased about this hard-line stance on CTE testing either but as they say, you can't make an omelette without breaking wind.

Not everybody we chase needs to be a superstar to be worth the effort. If we think this Richmond bloke would be best 22 for us and is only going to cost a late pick then it is worth doing even if he is never going to be a McGovern or McIntosh. We are all waiting for some superstar recruit to come and save us which is never going to happen. We just have to keep building the list one brick at a time.

I don't really understand our strategy when it comes to recruiting established players. Obviously we aren't a "destination club" at the minute but we aren't chasing the likes of Merrett, Curnow, Petracca etc. A 26/27 year old Shai Bolton isn't really what a rebuilding side needs and I doubt would've been interested in joining anyway.

We seem to have a fascination with recruiting players who either don't move the needle, don't address key areas of need, or both. Baker and Owies cost us a downgrade from 3 to 16. Graham was free. None of those are full time mids let alone good ones. Flynn is at best a slight upgrade on BBW, Hunt I guess didn't cost anything. Now we're looking at Starcevich, Tylar Young, Dev Robertson, previously Sam Butler. Not really inspiring.

I'm pretty confident a fit Bo Allan can come in and play a role at half back. We have Cole, McCarthy, Baker, Duggan, Hough, Maric who can all play roles in defence. Plus Ginbey is who is a semi key defender these days. But who is going to keep Harley company in the middle? There are guys like Constable and Parfitt killing it in the WAFL who are mid 20s with AFL experience that we could get for nothing that we just aren't interested in. For some reason we exclusively want to play kids and players that aren't really mids (Ryan, Hough etc.) in the middle. It surprises me that we are interested in someone like Tylar Young who is 27 and hasn't really set the world on fire but at the same time we seem to be pinning our hopes on 20 year olds and a 33 year old Yeo not being injured in the most pivotal area of the field. If Simpkin was better I would suggest going after him given he wants midfield time.

Who should we chase? Chad Warner?

Young fits a position of need and would be a good get, Butler would have been good.

Baker isn't perfect, but he did a fine enough job with not a lot of help this year, full time mid or not.

I'm referring to his underage career, not since we drafted him
Underage career yep. Struggled against his own age when bodied up despite what the hit outs say.
Played Sanfl league and did sweet **** all which is a bit neither here nor there.

The point is we took a ruck and need to put in 6 years.

Robey projects to be potentially elite. The issue is, we already have a better version of him in Reid and Hewett plays in a similar manner also.

Would be a very unbalanced group, unless his talent is too hard to ignore.

I'm not sure it is.

I actually see this as a bigger issue for Cumming than Robey. Very similar sizes and profiles.

Robey at least differentiates himself a bit with his greater size and mismatch ability as a marking forward.

WCE recruiters don’t understand our recruiting strategy. What hope do you have?

Duursma and Sharp for pick 1 and 2 will make a few on here happy

Shocking that other people have different set of opinions to Twomey. Who isn't the best judge of talent..
