Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

Elijah Hollands has another year to go with his contract at Carlton. They are thinking they might have to pay him out

Supposedly he has reformed. Is he keen enough to join us as a psd pick and forego his salary from Carlton to be an Eagle. We can put a strong contract based on behavioural off field issues and bonus on field incentives? At his best, he is a steal. Away from his old life and a long commute away, he might just knuckle down.

Would 13+33+ release of Blues paying him in 2026 get us 10? Through the PSD with terms I think means he can be a rookie or senior list.

Cooper Duff Tyler is a more athletic Darcy Cameron with less sticky hands and worse ruck craft.
With a floor of Kepler Bradley maybe…

Bradley was the same height, had a better under 18 champs (won the Larke Medal), had demonstrated great agility for his height and the ability to rack up possessions. He hadn’t proven his ruck craft. He was taken at pick 6.

I wonder if those thoughts will haunt Essendon when considering CDT.

In the absence of other pick trades we could use pick 13 to help Carlton game the system to our advantage. Carlton trade 10 to us for 34 and our F2. On draft night a Dean bid comes in the top dozen picks and Carlton’s 2R/3R picks are used to match. We then trade 13 to Carlton for their F2 and 2027 FF2. Blues get Dean and a 1R pick to use.

WCE OUT: 13, 34, F2 (WCE)
WCE IN: 10, F2 (CARL), FF2 (CARL)
Thought this trade concept was banned by the Afl when we did it with Sydney for the Blakey trade.

Reckon Hollands probably gets delisted. Probably goes to a state league side for a year or so like Stengle did.

Strange we haven't heard anything regarding Cripps. Wonder if he's still a chance to retire.
He's still comfortably our best small forward especially with Ryan gone and Owies being absolutely terrible.
Perhaps his absence will give guys like Champion and Newton, but they are still pretty far away. Same with Williams and Walley once we list them.
With only a season or so left in him at most, I'd delist him and pick him up in the rookie draft unless another team poaches him.

Catching up on the thread, reading some chat about taking Jesus Christ at pick 1. I'm not so sure...he's got whipping boy written all over him
He can take it. He'll probably even be up for the self sacrificial Rowan Jones type role.

Idun is the same height as Hough and plays a similar role to him and Starc on the medium/small forwards. Aleer plays taller and generally came in to the side when Taylor or Buckley were out. He’s a first round draft pick and GWS still want to keep him despite their stacked defense.

A fair few teams were after Aleer before he chose the Saints. I’m not sure Brock would interest any other sides. He’s already been delisted once and just snuck in as a train on at the worst side in the league. I hope he comes on but it’s a big reach to say he’s got more upside than Aleer. We will 100% play Young ahead of Brock and he’s not exactly a world beater either.

I agree that 2x 195cm+ KPDs isn’t necessarily a good structure and can be exposed against some smaller, faster forward lines. Which is exactly why I would’ve preferred Aleer as he is more of a hybrid in-between and has some versatile weapons like Ginbey in his athleticism but can also play tall if required due to his leap.

If Aleer came for the F2 we got for Ryan I would probably still do it and have Young, Brock and Bazzo as our back up KPDs. It’s rare we have a fully healthy list so nothing wrong with extra depth.

Of course we can draft a KPD but it’s all speculative and often even more so with talls so much more of a gamble. Especially given this is a weak draft. Plus looking at a few years to develop versus a plug and play 24 year old.

But I doubt we would go after it now. Hopefully Young forms a solid KPD partnership with Edwards and frees up Ginbey to intercept and be more attacking or cover the medium forwards if Hough/Starc play up the ground.
I just dent think Aleer is a good KPD, he has lots of athletic traits but he is a 3rd defender.
I don't think he is better than what we have, better than Brock maybe better than Bazzo yes.

I think we are going to draft a KPD this year if 1 appears later in the draft of quality and we have D Shanahan as an NGA KPD next year who has all the same athletic traits as Aleer in a taller package, 197-198 already so going to be 200cm.
Its about resources, list needs and forecasting what we need.
We definitely need more KPD options but Young, Edwards, Brock will do until they are replaced by draftees in 3-4 years.

Carlton will likely have 10 AND 11 following the Curnow deal. Makes them a strong contender to trade both picks with Richmond for pick 4 I'd have thought.

Catching up on the thread,
I honestly
reading some chat about taking Jesus Christ at pick 1.
Can't get out of my head with this Jesus stuff
I'm not so sure...
The association
he's got whipping boy written all over him
With Sweet Jesus (was it Gunnar back in the day?).

Like some jokes are funny but can we please make sure we're mindful of trauma across this board? Still have nightmares over those multiquotes!!

Reckon Hollands probably gets delisted. Probably goes to a state league side for a year or so like Stengle did.

Would 100% want him as a train-on at least - would want us to be getting in his ear and offering him genuine benefits/opportunities to entice him over vs the Vic clubs that would likely get him on but in a more exploratory way.

We have these 4 extra rookie spots, sure 1-2 should be used on mature agers to bolster our WAFL side/AFL depth and 1-2 used on spot shuffling to fit Cat Bs in but if there's ever a time we can afford to within that allocate a spot on a potential Stengle situation, this is it.

He's such a massive talent and from the sounds of it it's less of a party boy situation (or a Ugle-Hagan unhinged situation) and more of a problem with alcohol as a coping mechanism for genuine issues - can definitely respect that and also appreciate that the drive still might be there if he gets a good run at things.

Give say Hough or Ginbey their first big leadership task for the club and get him living temporarily with them, driving standards together and encouraging things over the preseason.

If he does a Stengle and has a good year in a state league side then 100% someone else will pick him up and we'll miss out. We've got a unique opportunity with these rookie spots - both for our own sake in that we can afford to roll the dice once on a top-10 talent and for his own comfort in that he's got a better chance of getting a spot with us if he has a great preseason than with other clubs.

Would love us to get on the front foot here. Obviously probably irresponsible to trade him onto our main list right now but as a SSP we should be already selling things to him. These extra rookie spots will no doubt be nice for depth etc but we should consider one of them on a dice roll IMO, and he's the most talented dice roll out there.

I agree with most of what you have said - but would be wary of putting that pressure on Hough or Ginbey.

It sounds like more of a situation where living with a coach would be better. Whether that is mini, Duncan or one of the others we have options.

It’s taken less than a decade for many Masten haters to slowly come around to the fact that at the very least he was a solid role player.

JC resurrected himself from the dead and it took 90-100 years for his book to finally be released!

Sounds like a perfect Eagles pick.

Delisting Cripps and putting him in the rookie draft would be an insult to a champion of the club who is still in our best 23.
Show some respect .!!!! Champion and Newton are probably 3 seasons away from being ready.
I would even consider extending Cripps's contract for another year which would allow him to reach 300 games.

Banfield is a balanced mid who can also play forward and score.

Hall is likely depth as is Robertson. I see both as strong WAFL players that can fill in.

In an ideal world, we have Hewett as a high half forward.

I still see Sharp as a need.

We need a midfield that can compete at the highest level, not just make up the numbers.
Robertson will be in our best 23, we didn't recruit him to just play WAFL.

Masten couldn't tackle and was the most tackled player in the AFL, he was one of Simmos favourites.
