2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

I’m trying to play out how an earlier than expected bid on Annable would affect Brisbane… and below is my best guess, but maybe someone with a more comprehensive understanding can fact-check me.

With the 10% discount applied… Bidding an Annable at 1 would cost 2,700 points.

Which is about 1,085 more points than if he was bid on at say 5 (where Twomey has him), which would only require 1,615 points.

That is the value of pick 13. Or roughly picks 26+27 or 33+34+35.

Brisbane would need to trade players or future picks to acquire those additional points to match the bid.

Or they could eat the deficit next year. Which as far as I can tell would basically destroy both their first and second round picks (assuming they are pick 19 and 38 respectively which combine for 1073 points).

What's the worst that could happen to the Lions if we bid on their player? Going to next season with a points deficit? They get their player regardless.

Should be a club can't draft the player if they can't match the points of a bid.
Pretty sure they have another first round academy prospect next season . Leaving them short next season may be a ****ing in advance

Clarke legitimately looks like he'd have piddle running down the inside of his leg during that interview.

Being a competent list manager and being comfortable on a live interview aren't mutually inclusive though.

Currently, yeah. I'm big on Brock though and would love to see him bulk up over the preseason and cause some selection headaches for round 1.
Exactly this, Brock has improved out of sight this year and so has Edwards for that matter.
I would think he is just in front of Brock and will be dependant on matchups with Edwards.
Big enough and agile enough to play CHB or FB.
Brock is a CHB with his agility and field kicking.

If you’re unhappy with anything Clarke said in that interview then you will never be pleased

Quantum leap from this time last year in the same opening interview

Early days obviously but clearly some lessons were learnt. May it continue
Not too sure about that. Definitely didn't give away the game like last year but compared to GC list manager who made real clear that Humphrey was not being traded, I've got no confidence pick 16 will not be used for Starcevich.

BRI also have Prindable & Bridge who would be draftable this year.
Not expected to be bid on before 3rd round on need list spot.
Their picks for Starcevich and Ah Chee will cover what they need.

Most of what Clarke said was fine especially towards the end. Could have been slightly more unequivocal regarding pick 16.
On a hiding to nothing though with specifics.

We aren’t unwilling to trade 16, we are unwilling to trade it for Starc.

So saying it’s not really on offer as it sits now allows things to change. Maybe it ends up a multi club trade where we trade up + get starc in one transaction. That likely does involve 16, just not in the straight swap form that Bris want.

Honestly don’t know why Worsfold isn’t doing the media stuff. He’s an old pro that gives nothing away.
Let Clarke concentrate on list management.

Armed with nothing but confidence and a Wi-Fi connection, posters have delivered their definitive analysis of the Matty Clarke interview. Despite no training in body language, speech, or interview dynamics, their insights include:

  • "legitimately looks like he'd have piddle running down the inside of his leg during that interview"
  • "He certainly didn't give me any confidence as far as Brisbane and Starcevich go. Gee whiz"
  • "He shit the bed a bit at the start"
  • "improved as the interview went on"
  • "why he didn't respond with more enthusiasm when asked about trading up"
  • "Still sounded nervous and hesitant"
Waiting for the following comments to come:
  • “He blinked—obviously lying.”
  • “His tone felt off. I just know.”
  • “I’m not an expert, but…”

Must say I haven't watched much of Clarke, but he said most of the right things.
16 not on the table for BRI, Chesser deal will meet somewhere in the middle.
Ryan is contracted and happy to keep him so STK need to come to us with the right deal.
Not too far apart with Young so will be easily done.
If we feel the player at the draft is the player we like, we will be happy to bid on them.

He looked nervous for mine, not comfortable on camera.
I reckon the boys running the narrative this morning, Woosha and Pyke have said to Clarke this is what needs to be said!!
Will see how this week plays out but behind closed doors I think we get all he deals done and the picks will be reasonable each way.

22/23 for Starcevich, Dev gets delisted or we have a swap of late picks if we need picks for a couple of NGA/FS players.
Chesser is worth CAR pick 40.
Pick 40 for T Young so they get their FS in Kellaway and maybe a future pick back F4th, works both ways.
Shots fired at BRI but more of a .22 than a shotgun with Clarke imo.
Dev on the rookie list is a must. Just promise to sign him as an SSP when the period opens. Unless we have a choice to add him to the rookie list rather than the main list as a DFA/through PSD? I don't think we can.

"Looked at his watch at 2:16, he's trading pick 2 and 16"

Then you and I watched a different interview. It wasn't ambiguous about pick 16. Gave me plenty of confidence it's not on the table and then did a lovely shot across the bow regarding club ties players and bidding according to where we see them in our draft order.

I'm glad he was able to throw in the comment about bidding without making it a threat.
