The most sad thing about our trade and negotiation approach and being seen as the good guys and fair operators is that good will is essentially never returned to us, lol.

Now clubs just view us as food because of how poorly we’ve handled deals in recent times.

I suspect 23 gets it done, but you just can’t trust Clarke until he proves otherwise.

We don't have to "get ahead of the narrative". We can do business our way. Brisbane looks stupid if they wind up keeping Starcevich or letting him go for the Hawks' R2. We just need to keep Matty Clarke away from any negotiations.
When have we ever done business like that though. Always seems like we don’t play the game properly and are very reactive when it comes to trades. The same thing happened 12 months ago, almost to the day.

After seeing that article, we should be straight on the phone to GC or Carlton and dropping all the picks tomorrow morning. Phoning up Annables manager as well saying we’re taking you at 1.

Pick 1 and 7 is still a very solid hand. Then it’s up to Brisbane to solve the problem and we just sit on our hands until they get back to us with a solution.

Which is why we trade it away and tell Brisbane we dont have it anymore

Issue we truly has is Matt Clarke is terrible at his job, Brisbane know this and so are pushing his limits

Yep we should. I actually agree with you on this. Do what the hawks did to us & then say well it’s gone you’ll just have to accept something else.

Hopefully we do a Hawthorn and just trade the two picks away after 1&2 to get GC's 7.

Doing this early will not only benefit us, but also the Suns. Otherwise Demons will be trying to get GC's two firsts in the Petracca deal once the Flanders trade goes through.

Bris will have no choice but to accept what we then offer. Then we should still bid on Annable at 2, as the greedy campaigners are already getting enough post premiership!

Why are we melting about something that hasn’t even happened. Brisbane will ask for 16 but it doesn’t mean they will get it. Will end up being the PP pick. Which is fair because it’s getting us pick 2 instead of pick 20 (End of first compo)

this time last year regarding the suggested split of pick 3 for Baker, most were saying "let's just chill out its not going to happen - there is no way we are that stupid".

What’s the better option?.

A) Allen & 22 (PP) for 2 & Starc

Or

B) Allen for Starc & 19 (Diluted Compo)

It’s clearly A for both teams.

It's not simply scenario A or B, there's a myriad of possibilities. Just giving away the PP pick to get Starcevich because you don't want to lose pick 2 is showing a lack of understanding of the leverage we hold.

They lose any leverage as soon as the free agency period expires because they need to lodge the paperwork before we need to trade for Starcevich. As others have said wait them out and we will get pick 2. They will absolutely make it band 1, otherwise they will have to trade and we can then get Annable with a bid at pick one as they won't be able to match.

It seems in our desperation to get players to come to us we are over promising to them that we will make it happen. Other clubs are then using this against us at the trade table - We need to be objective here and willing to walk away if the price isn't right.

Paying the PP pick for someone who is potentially one head knock away from his career ending is quite frankly insane. We should be telling him / told him, look we don't mind paying you the money and willing to take the risk on your contract but we won't be committing a high pick to make it happen. If you want to have your family looked after with this contract then you have to understand we'll be playing hard ball with Brisbane on a trade.

We didn't trade 3 for Baker.

Imagine if someone actually took us up on our offer last year for this year's first to trade back in for Shanahan though?

Maybe because people remember getting reemed at the trade table last year?
I mean, sure it sucked but did we really get reamed that badly?

We did pretty well on the Barrass trade, other than picking the wrong set of picks.

Realistically, we didn't miss out on anyone(currently) that's worth melting over with the pick 3 trade and we ended up with Shanahan, who'll probably be the steal of the draft.

People are more concerned with 'winning' trade week instead of looking holistically what we ended up with.

Simple solution.

Trade Hawks pick and end of first tomorrow with GC for pick 7. Can't give them what we don't have.

Tell them it's now our second round pick for Starcevich and if they are not happy with that we will offer Starcevich another 100k a year and walk his ass to the PSD.

If Allen does not trigger Band 1 we will match and force a trade and they can expect a bid on Annable at pick 1.

Don't **** around, just tell them this is how it's going to be.

Happy to keep Allen and take 1 and move up to what would now be 6 with GC.

They are playing a dangerous game here, i wouldn't push us too hard.

We stood firm only to blow it up 2 days later and make it worse. I remember being stoked that we told Hawthorn to shove it, but we then panicked.
Sorry, what are you talking about?
Hawks tried to **** us over by trading their first rounder, and we stood firm right up until the last minute and managed to get a first, second and third rounder for Barrass?

And we also stood firm against the Hawks. So there's no trend as such.

We did stand up against Hawthorn, that is true.

My hope is that we have not 'committed' to Starcevich in the same way we did to Baker last year, in that we would absolutely get him here and give his team a 'fair' price in the process. Doing that clipped our bargaining power with Richmond last year.

Looks like our boy Tylah Williams came in 2nd at the combine in the 20m sprint and 4th in the agility.

20m Sprint
Oskar Taylor (2.823 sec)
Tylah Williams (2.892 sec)
Hunter Holmes (2.895 sec)
Avery Thomas (2.898 sec)
Tom Burton (2.915 sec)

Agility
Lachy Dovaston 7.794 sec - Ranked in the all time top 10
Oskar Taylor 7.840 sec
Xavier Taylor 7.869 sec
Tylah Williams 7.878 sec
Avery Thomas 7.887 sec

Sydney Academy prospects Max King and Harry Kyle were the best finishers among the vertical leap tests, with full results to be released in the coming days.

The two-kilometre time trial for the national combine took place on Friday, with Sandringham's Jack Dalton (5 minutes, 53 seconds) taking out the event after entering as a widely-regarded favouritre.

Can’t imagine GC deal that pick until later in the trade period, potentially even post trade period.

I know I made this argument with Petch, but if people can't see Brockman's potential value to this side (especially as the midfield develops) then they're insane.

I think Mini erred not giving him more time in the midfield as the season progressed.
You lost me at PETCH.

The one thing brockman has over petch is footy IQ. He needs to be way way kore consistent

Yep that's fair. But with the way things panned out last year, you'd think we'd be very wary of how we approach things this year. And there's no trend either way to base anything off of.
People being cautious here is fair, but going nuts about it is a bit silly.
