It was a shit deal that hinged on Essendon needing to do the smart thing and take as many assets as they could, even if they weren’t particularly good ones.

10 (15ish), 22 (30+) and a first rounder you’d expect slides into the 20s next year, and having to send a pick back to facilitate.

20 A-Graders over there at Hawthorn but evidently not a good wheeler or dealer on the books.

Yeah, I was reading quite a bit of the Merrett thread on the Dons board. Definitely a lot of conflict and in a cold reality, I agree with them needing to move him on for the picks and kick start a rebuild. But Hawthorn and their whole attitude, ugh.

They probably will get him next year and the Bombers get a lot less, but I guess they are backing themselves in to make good with the draft hand they have now. Very brave or crazy 😆

Crows just said they will take Ah Chee via the PSD.

They will probably offer him a two year deal on stupid money and then the other years later on for nothing to smooth it out but we can afford it.

We should get on the phone to Callum and tell him we are taking him but we want to pay him very handsomely for it so let's talk.

Merrett 3o0 years of age , Essendon didn't trade , bad blood between Hawks and Essendon must be very real .

The Hawks offer was more than fair. Essendon want to keep someone who doesn't want to be there. They could have improved their list. Their culture is bad.

Eagles no nonsense. Do trades to help them improve. Your culture is good.

Who will be the first to be successful again? You will be without a doubt.

Let's hope we can get Ah Chee if you decide not to match the Crows offer.

We'll pay you back down the line. ;)

If just makes nonsense from Essendon's perspective and it seems to be a continuation of the list management culture of the past under dodo.

If Ah Chee gets to Adelaide through the PSD then it just proves a lot of people’s points in here about how bad we are at negotiating, considering we have pick 1 in the PSD and apparently have zero idea how to leverage that.
There’s a limit to how far we can go with it. No point blowing the bank with him.. he isn’t a must have

So just checked the Adelaide board they are pretty sure they will get Ah Chee

We hold the number 1 pick in the PSD.....but if he wants to go to the crows ..??? how does this work

is this a bidding war how much money between the Crows and eagles offer for his signature ?

I wouldn't say it would be an indictment of the Eagles specifically, since a whole stack of clubs have picks before Adelaide. If he does get through to them then it's an indication that every AFL club just has a gentlemen's agreement to let players get to their preferred destination through the PSD, not that the Eagles are somehow incompetent.
