Clearly this Cully kid needs to be drafted by us if we finish last.
I get that an injury in the back half of the season could derail their AFL prospects but I was surprised that Jacob Edwards nominated for the mid-season draft last year and I will be again with Jai Culley.

They are clear stand outs and guaranteed to go to a club at the bottom of the ladder in the MSD. If they held out to the National Draft they give themselves half a chance to end up at a top club with more proven player development and a better chance of on-field success. Of course the flip side is it will be harder to get opportunities.

I imagine the advice they receive is to just get yourself into the system and don't turn down a chance to do so... but for guys like Edwards and Culley you surely wouldn't think they are going to slide right through the draft a second time... I guess it's easy for me to sit here and say take a risk and hold out for the ND when it's not my potential AFL career.

If we have pick #1 in the MSD and Culley nominates it's an absolute no brainer to take him with that pick.

You aren't going to get many gems in the MSD but he definitely looks like one. Effectively an extra top 20 pick in the National Draft IMO.

I quickly pulled a few of Jai Culleys highlights for you all.
Number 17 on red team, these are only ones I had time to find, there were many many more...

Jun 1st is just around the corner , Maybe O`brien can deliver the big bodied mid we have been waiting for ..

I liked what the Stingrays coach Nick Cox said .

“He’s 192 (centimetres), strong, kicks it well, marks it strongly overhead and is really aggressive around the footy,” Cox said.

“He really is the prototype of what midfielders look like at the AFL level now.”

I'm really getting my hopes up, but he and Clark could be the IBBBWBLf.

Nek minute we take Florenca instead 🤣

Clearly this Cully kid needs to be drafted by us if we finish last. No point in going the mature age pick with pick 1 in the mid season draft . We need an eye to the future and if we have a 2nd pick then maybe florenca.

Cully has the same athletic attributes as yeo

Getting a head start on a rebuild is what needs to be done .

We also need to target young out of contract mids like roberton and bruhn.

Pick 37 for roberton and future 3rd for bruhn . PSD threat is real .

Hopefully guys like English and Jackson can sign up until their free agents and we can get them for cash no picks in a couple of years .

Silly to sell the farm for them now
100%, Culley is 6 years younger than Florenca. No brainer we take Culley with an eye on the future over now. Plus we took Naish and Joyce already that mature aged midfielders, adding Florenca doesn't really make any sense.

Don't get attached to Culley gaiz. Just don't. Don't do it. Don't.

I've made some bold calls in my time, it comes with the girth/length combo in my trousers, so i'll go ahead and say this now...

If Ro selects Culley in the mid season draft, i'll delete my account

Might not get the chance, might be a race to get the number 1 pick to get him.

NORTH Melbourne is set to use a season-ending shoulder injury to first-year defender Miller Bergman as a means of opening up a list spot for next month's NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

The Kangaroos, who remain a realistic chance of holding the No.1 pick, are set to shape the early stages of June's mid-season draft and are understood to be preparing to use a selection after Bergman's injury.

The club this week ruled the teenage defender out for the remainder of the season after he was forced to undergo shoulder surgery to repair damage he sustained on his AFL debut a fortnight ago.

As previously flagged by Inside Trading, 202cm ruckman Max Ramsden and tall midfielder Jai Culley have emerged as prominent names to watch in the mid-season draft mix just 12 months after North took young tall Jacob Edwards at pick No.1.

Who are we a chance to beat between now and the midseason draft?

If we engage in some ****ed up race to the bottom, a contest on who can get smashed the hardest against ****ING NORF, I'm gonna be so pissed off.

Show some ****ing spine you useless campaigners. **** finishing last. Even if it costs us pick one, picks two to five and beyond should still be guns.

**** off anyone who wants to tank. Go fellate Chris Connolly or some shit.

If we end up taking a few in the MSD, I think Florenca makes sense. Just not the first one.
24/25 isn't that old - We still need mature bodies around as we bring more young guys like Culley and Derksen in. (hopefully)

Joyce LTI
JK (retire) - I'll miss you bearded god.
Maybe even a 3rd like piss Nelson off or Edwards LTI

Culley, Derksen, Florenca is a nice start

Sorry, i dont know enough about the rules surround MSD/ND and RD.

Who is this Culley kid?

And why isnt he going into the National Draft? Looks like a bit of loop hole.

Why wouldn't we do this with Broadbent now and still split our 1st for Hewitt/Wardlaw or combination of something similar. And next year do the same. It would really be the perfect way to poach elite talent with multiple hits?

And if Culley did go into the ND where would he be taken?

To be taken in the midseason draft you havd to first nominate for it but also have to have nominated for a previous draft i believe altho i think exemptions are given
You also need list spots

Culley must have missed out last draft so can be taken MSD now whereas Broadbent is eligible to be drafted this coming ND draft not before then !!

Florenca at pick 19/20 (will be more like pick 10 or so in reality - as not all clubs will have picks) would be perfect. You'd think he will last to then also.

But when there are 19yo's dominating, and we basically get a free swing at them (especially if we have the 1st pick, therefore have choice of the whole crop) we'd be crazy to take a guy that would be there later.

Assuming our salary cap can handle it (and I'm guessing we can negotiate with a few guys as we'll be paying less over the next 2-3 years) then I'd guess we can create 2 spots with Allen and Joyce onto the LTI list.

I'm not against Florenca at all, but if we only have the one pick in the MSD it has to be Culley purely on talent and age profile. If we end up with two picks, more than happy to add Florenca as the second.

Culley is a boy from Mornington Peninsula who missed out in last years draft, was building last season before Covid closures hit and feels like the type who could've really taken off in the last half of the season but never got that opportunity. Plenty in the past who have done this, had huge second half of the seasons in their final year and gone on to have great AFL careers. So now he's playing regularly and putting on a clinic, he really feels like the diamond that was in the ruff and got missed.

His game vs Vic Metro (albeit without Wardlaw, Tsatas and Ashcroft) was one of the best I've seen!!!

If a club drafted “best available talent” at each of their picks all the time, odds are that your list would be top heavy for midfielders and light on for KPP’s and flankers. Much like GWS is finding out with their list now.
And the question I have with GWS is will they change their ways? Is 2022 the year to nail a KPF they really need. If so, Lemmey is almost certain to be gone and Scully is looking to rise up the boards before GWS get a pick. To get one of these guys, GWS will need to pay up and I would be hoping we are open to a slide of 4 or 5 places.

There are a handful of midfielders I like so far in this year's cohort. There are only 2 KPF's that look top end and as we know with KPF's, you need to go early.

I am not expecting West Coast to hold pick 1 - the current off-field team are not competent to tank properly. Therefore we will hold pick 2 which is likely to be the 3rd best player. Will Norf go for Lemmey if they hold pick 1? If I was a shin boner, I would hope so. They have enough mids. Essendon look like they will be getting an early pick and will benefit from a KPF. Therefore I see that pick 1 or 2 will hold a real premium for anyone wanting to go tall forward.

I support you on the view certain players need a full season and come good late. Let's face facts, Clayton Oliver was probably not even in any clubs sights prior to the carnival. When he was given midfield minutes when his top end team mates went to the carnival, it gave him hope and confidence. That momentum in the second half of the year made him. I would be happy to take the risk with Culley as a pretty much free drop. Contract him for 18 months and see if he can make it. Joyce is the obvious LTI for me to say time to cut.
