I'm a bit suprised we got rid of Mitch O'Neil tbh. Seems like exactly the type of player we need to be developing. Surely another year on the rookie list wouldn't have hurt especially since we was injured all season

Absolutely.

Got a feeling his back must be completely cooked. He was the best young midfield prospect we had, and barely even got a look. Club can't be that daft.

Perhaps that was the reason he slid so far in the first please. I don't mind the club having a crack at a young gun to overcome injuries.

Again, we can’t have a team full of a+++ players we have to have some players in lower wages that make up the team. Every club has them, I dont get the hes not a grade talk, it’s the b graders every team has to have, I’m happy with Nelson he plays his role

Never said we need a team full of A+++ players. I just don't think Nelson is the 'B grader' you're suggesting he is, and the sooner we can upgrade our C graders, the better we will be.

Certainly not suggesting every player needs to be a superstar on big coin, but they need to have some sort of weapon that they add to the team. Nelson plays a role, but just because he's not flashy doesn't automatically make him the sort of dour, super dependable role-playing backman that every side needs. He's decent depth and hardly suggesting he should be delisted or anything, but I just feel he's too in-between to be considered an automatic selection for the side.

None of the junior players in the back line have any license to attack out of defence. Shep barely tries.

It's a system thing not any lack of capacity. When Simpson mixed things up during the injury crisis and was letting the three amigos slide up the ground they all looked OK as rebounding options.

NB - TK to TC v CW excluded.

Really.....

We finished equal on points (behind on %) with Geelong, 1 game behind Richmond. 2 games off top 2.

Geelong and Richmond have shown nothing to say they can beat us in Perth. I know we lost a home final this year but reality is that doesn't happen often (and even less often when we finish top 2, unsurprisingly).

I'm glad we are adding some fringe players, and they do improve us - of course the bulk of the improvement needs to come from the squad we already have (trading might improve the bottom 5, but attitude, consistency and desire will improve our 5-15 ranked players who were all a bit off where we needed them to be to contend this year).

Bugger all home games at the MCG and Kardinya Park but Geelong and Richmond still rose to the top. They are clearly the best 2 teams in the comp and have an extra gear that most other sides don't have. You're kidding yourself if you think that adding fringe players to our list will help us get back onto that level.

What exactly is Sydney offering for hickey? If its a third rounder and we let him walk, us supporters should be pissed.

We hold all the negotiating power here, he is contracted and Sydney desperately need a ruckman. Unless they are prepared to stump up something decent, we should tell them we are quite happy to hold onto Hickey and keep him at the club

Sorry, I thought your comment saying he’s not an A grader implied you weren’t happy with him

Looking forward to watching Langdon, Cameron, Jones fighting it out for small forward spots. Maybe we’ll see Ryan given some midfield minutes to fit a couple in. Our midfield depth suddenly isn’t an issue if we can rotate Duggan, Ryan through there and have Waterman and Cripps have stints on a wing. We just need players and coaches to be versatile

Can Langdon play in the middle. We need guys that are coming in to be able to pinch hit in the middle.

Add Cripps to that list of small forwards fighting for spots I reckon - pretty indifferent 2020, would want to bounce back and start kicking goals again.

I would say there are still 3 spots up forward up for debate - Darling, Ryan and Kennedy with Allen rotating through are locks. Both flanks and a pocket in the offing for Waterman, Ah Chee, Cameron, Cripps, Jones, Langdon (assuming that gets done), maybe another Waterman too if they go down that road....and Willie! (If by some miracle he gets 18 months).

It’s a good problem to have. If we can get Witherden and Langdon, they’re playing each week and suddenly guys like AhChee, Petruccelle and Ainsworth aren’t gifted games. If Cameron and Jones get fit we can start pushing a couple of guys into the middle where we lack a bit of depth to fit in guys in areas where we do have it.

You know it's fool-proof right?

Not sure but I’d bet my left nut that Ryan would be great wherever they played him.

Agree and this is why we need some other small forwards step up big time because I Woukd love to see Ryan pinch hit through the midfield. He has a good tank, makes smart decisions, is evasive and highly skilled. He could cause all sorts of problems running through the midfield and giving himself and the team more disposals. You want blokes like Ryan getting the ball a lot.

I think the slow play out of defence is not due to junior players but more on our game strategy of slow and deliberate ball movement.

We need some more elite kicks who can pick out targets in the middle corridor. However the coaching team have to ban kicking to stationary targets - no point in plonkers like Sheed standing still in the centre square hands up saying "pass to me". Intercept time.

For whatever the crap Jetta had with Simmo, we have missed his passing out of defence. He is not perfect at hitting targets but I will forgive the odd one when he is trying to hit running targets.

The Pies game in the H&A match was an example of when we took on the centre corridor. It got to our forwards fast and what do you know, we had extremely high conversion

I think we are making the same point. The defenders are playing to the system/game strategy that has been laid out for them.

Langdons bread and butter is manic pressure, tackling and crumbing once the ball hits the deck .
He reportedly has a big tank and high work rate .
I wouldn't put langdon in the middle. We lacked forward pressure this season. Really need someone there creating a scrap when it hits the deck.

If JJ and Langdon are down there creating headaches for the big guys who can't bend over it'll go a long way. Let's ryan push higher up the ground and become that link.

I don't know where cameron fits at the moment. He needs to lift.
