Common sense would be hold off opening borders until the school year finishes. Schools are going to be full of students not yet vaccinated (especially obviously primary schools since no 5-11 vaccinations yet). Open up after school finishes, you'll get to most 12 - 15 vaccinated before next year. Then have the TGA stop taking weeks extra to approve for 5 - 11 year olds when other countries are already doing it, so there's a good start before first term next year for that age group.

This wouldn't stop anyone seeing family for Christmas, but removes the most obvious likely super spreader sites, not yet ready for COVID into the state.

Adelaide Oval's new covid jab policy is somewhat amusing. If you have a medical exemption and can't get the covid jab, you are deemed safe and can enter the ground provided you have had a negative test in the 72 hours prior to entry. But if you are unvaccinated without an exemption, you too can have a negative test 72 hours prior to entry but you will not be allowed in because you are deemed unsafe.

At this point it is simply anti-scientific nonsense to placate hysterical nuffies who've been whipped into a frenzied mob mentality against 'the other'.

Compulsory vaccination stopped being remotely about 'the science'™ a long time ago. It is now purely about conformity, obedience and fear.

I get it to some degree for the cricket. With the government rushing to open to Victoria and NSW, despite we'll only just be cracking 80% double vaccinated (of 16+), that they worry a bunch of fully vaccinated people will catch COVID and spread it.

By football season though we should be nearer to 90%, including 12+ and have started those 5-11. Capacity at AO next year should be full house, vaccinated (or legit exemptions) only, with no masks.

We are going to have one of the highest vaccinated populations in the world yet we will still have some of the strongest restrictions with respect to mass gatherings (ie sporting events) on the globe.

There are a lot of shit people out there who only serve to make life harder for everyone around them. Not all shit people are anti-vaxxers, not all anti-vaxxers are shit people, but there is a hell of a lot of overlap on that Venn diagram (as our good friend G3TWOTYAD3S3RV is ably demonstrating). If those people want to make a choice to isolate themselves from society rather than get vaccinated, I'm more than happy for them to make that decision.
