Friday’s Sheffield Shield match at the SCG has been suspended due to a suspected positive COVID-19 test result within the Victorian team.

Multiple player sources with knowledge of the situation have told the Herald they were informed on Friday morning the opening day of play would not begin on time because of a COVID-19 scare.

A Cricket Victoria statement read: “In the course of routine COVID-19 testing, Victorian player Will Sutherland has returned a test result which requires further analysis. The Victorian team is currently self-isolating while this analysis and investigation takes place.”

Feeling a bit crook but I'm jabbed and we're supposed to be moving on so like **** I'm isolating myself and getting a test. Either move forward or move backwards to lockdowns. I'm not living like a leper in a world that reckons it's ready to tackle it going to places that are only open to those who are vaccinated. It's probably just the sniffles.

Good luck. I’m guessing you are low risk of serious illness.
I am too, but some close to me aren’t, that is my main concern. I’ll continue masking etc until they sort this pandemic out.

If we just let Halthcare be under stress, we could have simply thrown more resources at the Halth, and all the money, time, effort and bullshit could have been focussed on that. We should have set up Covid Colonies, like the Leper colonies of yore, and the rest of us could have gone about our daily lives as normal.

Instead we spend over $2B on the new RAH and closed the old one for a net gain of 50 beds. *slow clap*

A dedicated quarantine facility would’ve been a swell idea too.

Why exactly are we still calling a group of people who all evidence points to as being incredibly resilient, vulnerable?
I was just quoting Pat Turner, CEO of NACCHO as using that terminology, not me.

I must say, though, that when I worked in health several years ago there was a high proportion of that group under our care with chronic renal failure, many having renal dialysis and also some renal transplants.
Indigenous have just over twice the risk rate of renal disease to non indigenous and three times the death rate. Coronavirus causes renal and other organ damage, last thing these people would need.

I used to visit them at home in Adelaide for diabetes care ( another risk profile) and they usually lived in crowded conditions (increased risk of transmission)
They have three times the incidence of diabetes to the general population.

Combine that with low vax rates.

So I guess these factors, amongst others would make their population more vulnerable,

This is a Covid19 risk calculator from Oxford uni so relating to a UK population but still an interesting exercise.
Not sure if there is an Australian version.

You can enter your own stats for calculation ( I am relatively low risk), those for elderly parents or other family or friends with certain conditions, and those of indigenous population ( even though there is not a specific section for them you can still add in some co morbidities) and can compare them.
Highlights why we need to try to protect certain people, loved ones, elderly parents, children and friends with certain disorders as best we can by our and their behaviours from contracting the disease.

Have you considered living as if lockdown was still going? More effective than needles and masks.

We’ve been basically free in Adelaide even with the restrictions.
I fimd masking no big impediment, happy to be vaccinated too.
Layers.

Despite being double vaxed I will be limiting my movements in the coming weeks and will probably wear a mask even if restrictions are lifted. The truth is no one knows what is going to happen in SA over the next 4-6 weeks and while vaccines are a help they are not a silver bullet. I went and had a haircut today as there is no telling if the barbershop will be open this time next week. The shop was packed as a lot of people had the same idea. I half expect a run on toilet paper over the weekend.

I think a lot of the reaction to November 23 will be influenced by age group. Millenials will probably not give a toss whereas boomers like me will probably be more careful as we are in a higher risk category.

Even with restrictions Victoria is running at an annual infection level of 365,000 cases with an annual death rate of 2,800. Now that restrictions have been lifted those figures may soar, no one really knows. With the lifting of border restrictions some of that is headed our way and infection rates in SA will increase. There is every chance someone in our families will get infected.

Meanwhile Victorian all rounder Will Sutherland has tested positive for COVID and the NSW v Vic Shield match is called off while Dan the Man lifts most restrictions in Victoria in an effort to live with COVID. If Victoria and NSW are both 'living with Covid' then surely Sutherland comes out and the games goes ahead? Apparently it is OK to have the MCG and the SCG at full capacity and risk a super spreader event but if a cricketer tests positive the Test gets called off.

What's the point? COVID is here to stay. It's not getting eliminated, we're not getting rid of it. What do you think is going to be different in a couple of months' time?

If you want to shut yourself away from COVID, feel free to do so, but you'll be shutting yourself away for the rest of your life. This isn't something you can just wait out.

True, I just intend to lay low and wait and see what happens over Christmas. The plan announced by Steven Marshall raises more questions than answers and hopefully it will be refined as we go along. I can see the SA Health System being overwhelmed in the early days so I will avoid getting caught up in that shitfest.

You are right though, we will have to live with COVID and there is a limit to withdrawal. I guess it is the fear of the unknown that is influencing my thinking.

He’s not really saying that.
New treatments are being developed and even new versions of the vaccine, the boosters might give long term immunity so the spread decreases.
What’s the issue with someone being a little extra careful in the meantime, just sussing things out?

Funny how yielding to the evil government is now a thing. I can think of so many ways we’ve been taking it in a very uncomfortable way for years in many guises. Governments, big businesses etc. But apparently now big pharma, msm and just about every government on the planet are onto something?

Austria will become the first European country to go back into full lockdown and the first to make Covid vaccination compulsory.
Vienna imposed restrictions on the unvaccinated earlier this week, but those who had had both jabs remained free to move around.

But authorities now believe that is not enough to bring down the infection rate, and are putting the whole country back under a hard lockdown for at least 10 days from Monday.
Restaurants, pubs, and all non-essential shops will be closed and people will be told to remain at home. Classroom teaching will be suspended and schools will revert to distance learning.
The lockdown will last a maximum of 20 days, chancellor Alexander Schallenberg told a news conference on Friday.

Vaccination will also become compulsory from Feb. 1, he added. Those who refuse could face heavy fines.
The move comes after the states of Upper Austria and Salzburg announced they would impose unilateral regional lockdowns on Thursday.
Austria is currently facing one of the worst outbreaks of the virus in Europe. It recorded 15,145 new cases on Friday and has a seven-day incidence of 989 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The country has lagged behind much of Western Europe.
There is a large anti-vaxxer movement and only 65 per cent of Austrians are fully jabbed. There are fears Friday’s announcement could spark angry protests.
Thousands of people have already taken to the streets in Austria to protests against restrictions this week and a major rally is planned for Saturday in Vienna.

looks like Israel is getting things back under control now with the boosters initiated a few weeks ago.

If you live in SA, are fully vaccinated and want to travel to and back from the ACT (97% vaccinated), you still need to get a COVID test within 72 hours of arrival. This is BS.

To be honest I wish they'd do that for anyone coming INTO SA from Eastern States

But seems a bit stiff from one zero case region to another.
