Lol that the panic merchants can't see that their doomsday claims were made at the time inclusive of lockdowns and vaccinations, not with a disclaimer

Are we seriously going to count every single new covid case and exposure site in SA? Spoiler alert: it's going to be lots now that we have opened up to the eastern states. Time for covid to move out of the public domain to the health domain. We've done everything we had to do, let's continue to vaccinate and move on. I am totally over hearing and reading about it.

In Italian unfortunately but demonstrates approximate effectiveness of different commercial masks.

Top line of each mask relates to the filtering power towards others( protects others if you have covid19))
Bottom line percentage is filtering power towards yourself ( protects you if others have covid19)

So the blue surgical masks prevent droplets from escaping from nose and mouth, protecting the wearer by 20% but others by 95%.

The middle line, especially FP33 are highly effective to both self and others.

The bottom line allow better breathing by the wearer and protect the wearer but less filtering towards others.

In a perfect world masks like the FFP3 unvalved type masks would be available and cost effective, but this is unachievable.
I assume they would be similar to N95 or KN95.

Having a mask fit tested to the face creates the highest filtering.

When you make considerations for inappropriate handling and wearing of masks by some of the population the effectiveness of each wearer would be lower but a combination of different masks would still help to reduce spread in a general population.
Not perfect but one of the layers of behaviours to decrease spread.

hahahahaha that is obscene, do they hysterically pretend all of this is important in Japan or do they just wear masks and get on with it

Not unless I'm in a shopping centre or on public transport which I avoid anyway.Masks don't bother me like they do you though. I wear n95s everyday at work.

We'll be wearing masks for years on and off ..

Actually you should try public transport again. It's like having a private limo the last 18months.

I still have not found the answer to this question:

Does having had CV19 (and recovered) provide the same or similar immunity from reinfection as 2 jabs of Pfizer or AZ vaccine?

I know there is time dependence, so let's say 1 month after recovery or completion of the vax program.

Any clues?

South Australian authorities announced on Thursday three new COVID cases have been linked to three separate flights from Sydney and Melbourne, in the first infections recorded at Adelaide Airport since the borders reopened. According to an update from SA Health this afternoon, today’s new positive cases include a man in his 50s and a woman in her 20s who both acquired their infection interstate. The third case is a man in his 60s who acquired his infection overseas. All three are now in isolation and have been transferred to a quarantine facility, while household close contacts are also in quarantine.

After 10 seconds on Google.........
At a Glance
  • The immune systems of more than 95% of people who recovered from COVID-19 had durable memories of the virus up to eight months after infection.
  • The results provide hope that people receiving SARS-CoV-2 vaccines will develop similar lasting immune memories after vaccination.

Thus far this is the clearest description I have found of what we have to do if we have been in an SA exposure site. I had to find it in an ABC News report. There has been little information from the SA Government.
  • Anyone at a close contact location that is unvaccinated is required to quarantine for 14 days, be tested immediately and re-test on days 6 and 13. Vaccinated people only have to quarantine for 7 days.
  • People who attend a casual contact location only have to quarantine until they receive their first negative COVID test. They must re-test on days 6 and 13 and wear a mask at all times when around other people.
  • People at low-risk casual contact locations must monitor for symptoms and be tested immediate if they develop any.
Of course this is fine if we all use QR Codes or sign in and if SA Health can notify us if we have been in a close contact or casual contact location. I rather suspect there will be that many contact locations that like Victoria contact tracing will fall by the wayside.

I have printed out the list of symptoms from the link below and keep it handy. To some it may seem an over reaction but to me it is being prepared for what will probably happen. The big problem is that COVID symptoms are similar to cold and flu so there will be many who have COVID, think they have a cold and not bother with a test. There are also those who cannot be bothered getting vaccinated so the chances of many of them getting tested and isolating at home is zilch.

Hey SA halth. Get stuffed. People aren't gonna quarantine anymore for the sake of it unless they test positive. It's gonna be in the state, get over it.

If someone had it on the plane you could have been 20 rows away from them.

Get a test, watch for symptoms, but then get on with it is what they should say.

Basically why couldn't they look at what seat the plague carrier was in and just select the poor schlubs in the adjoining few seats and tell them to quarantine til they get a test?

They're saying someone fully vaccinated, seated 20 rows away, with zero symptoms and a negative test still has to quarantine for 7 days.

Why are we opening up the borders but still forcing contacts to isolate?

Either let 'er rip or don't. If you open the borders, we're gonna get COVID. If you don't want COVID, don't open the borders.

The governments and health bureaucrats can't let go of control. They've been given a taste of power and they'll do everything they can to keep it.

Even if you don't like ScoMo, his comments about Australians doing the right thing and stepping forward to get vaccinated in huge numbers and that it's now up to the state governments to step back in response should ring true for most people.

This-could-be-a-big-worry….or not…

The variant was first spotted in Botswana, where three cases have now been sequenced. Six more have been confirmed in South Africa, and one in Hong Kong in a traveller returning from South Africa.

Dr Tom Peacock, a virologist at Imperial College London, posted details of the new variant on a genome-sharing website, noting that the “incredibly high amount of spike mutations suggest this could be of real concern”.

In a series of tweets, Peacock said it “very, very much should be monitored due to that horrific spike profile”, but added that it may turn out to be an “odd cluster” that is not very transmissible. “I hope that’s the case,” he wrote.
Prof Francois Balloux, the director of the UCL Genetics Institute, said the large number of mutations in the variant apparently accumulated in a “single burst”, suggesting it may have evolved during a chronic infection in a person with a weakened immune system, possibly an untreated HIV/Aids patient.

Common sense approach: you're identified as a close contact of someone with covid. Go get a test asap. Watch for any symptoms. Chill til you get a negative test result. At that point, head back into society. If you get any symptoms, repeat step 1.

Is it that ******* hard?

When you let the public health officers (ie the epitome of bed-wetters) to be the main driver behind the rules, restrictions, testing etc, this is what you're going to get. It is absolutely absurd.

Morrison changes his position every second week. Lockdowns are bad, lockdowns are good. Mandates are good. Mandates are bad.
