Temp screening is almost pointless though.

Some cities in China are quarantining and testing all arrivals for the actual virus. No messing around.

It was more the point there was a complete lack of anything. Instruction to distance, signage, etc.
It is in your face at all the other airports.

And you think the average Australian diet is any better?

People here hug and kiss each other too. We also have a sizeable elderly population.

We aren’t perfect but as a society I think we would on average be in better shape. Ever been to Europe ? The first thing I notice apart from how beautiful it is, is how many smokers there are !

My GF is Hungarian, she is amazed at how hard Australians are on themselves yet at the same time how good we have it compared to other countries in terms of politicians, police, and healthcare.

Our geography and low population density makes us different. So we have a different approach to managing this monster.

Oh, and good morning to big footy !! Hope everyone has a CV19 free day.

I have been told, via a 3rd hand source, that, as of c. 18.3, Box Hill Hospital, in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, had diagnosed 137 cases of covid-19: but only a very small no. were actually admitted to a ward in Box Hill for covid-19.

I have never met the 1st hand source, who originally provided this information- but this source worked in the medical industry.
I know very well the 3rd hand source who directly told me this information (who was told it by a relative of the above person who worked in the medical industry).

I am not, & obviously cannot, guarantee the accuracy of this information that Box Hill Hospital had recently diagnosed 137 covid-19 cases. AFAIK, it is not on the public record, & is simply hearsay.

yet unis will manage it. Harder for yr 12 but they already have mid November to March before uni with nothing to fill it. You can’t tell me that yr 3 for example can’t catch up 6 months or so before yr 12. Especially if some distance education is done in the meantime
I think I can. We have students in normal times who can’t catch up. Even with individual education plans they are still behind. We still have students entering high school who can’t read or do basic maths. I can’t see a whole nation of students catching up.

The key will be pro-active parents.

I don’t think these restrictions are enough. All the new implementations last night and it still seems half cocked.

This will turn quickly. 1029 cases in NSW every one has been a result of either been overseas or direct contact with people that have come in from overseas. If people weren’t fu**heads when they arrived in Australia this would have been controlled quickly.
it’s bad but I don’t believe it’s as doomsday as everyone is believing. Just play it smart do the right things and this will pass.

that'd be correct. Only a small % gets admitted to hospital. Most are sent home to self isolate and recover.

It’s become a beacon for identifying the racist in the room.

If only we had as effective a test for identifying the presence of Covid-19 we’d be spared all this trouble.

How is Wuhan virus racist? That's where it comes from.

I haven't had the Wuhan Virus yet, but I have had Kobe Beef, and continue to call it Kobe Beef. Strike me down again.

Let's make sure to name the new Tassie footy club, AFLCL-25 when they gain acceptance into the competition - wouldn't want to reference their region due to racism concerns against Tasmanians

Like Australia? Not to mention the sugar, growing obesity...

1 in 10 people in Italy are obese as opposed to 1 in 3 in Australia.

Italy have the second oldest country in the world because it had the second highest longevity in the world.

There are twice as many people in Australia that have cancer and asthma compared to Italy who has more than twice the population.

Pretty disappointed in the new restrictions.. What do our medical specialists know that the rest of the world don’t? The measures last night were micky mouse at best, none of what was implemented will stem the avalanche of new cases I feel.

Again, I don’t subscribe to the nonsense that this virus is going to cause mass deaths, despite what people say I really don’t think we have a strain that is as prominent or lethal as other countries. Logic says to me we have enough of a case study to know this, 0.3% death rate and under 1% are deemed more than mild, this is not a lethal strain of Covid19.

The economic outcomes is far more damaging, this is the saddest of realities.

You're back.

The initial world response was similar to that of SARS. The risk of this virus spreading seemed high when info was coming out about the nature of the symptoms/incubation period yet no one was pivoting. I took that as an early call to action to protect my neck and I’m bloody glad I did.

No instruction to distance at this stage is a surprise, even Woolies does that ffs. When I arrived in Oz from the US a few weeks ago customs were getting right up in people’s faces, not a mask in sight, except on my face and people looked at me like I was a weirdo. As it turns out, Tulla was a confirmed exposure site at that very moment.

For those who are interested, here is an example of some real leadership from Angela Merkel. She usually shuns publicity, so this was a big event and everybody watched. I was really impressed.

I just got back home from the shops. They have toilet paper, milk, everything. And everyone is relatively calm here. Going about in groups of 2 or less, making distance for each other on the street. She has really set the tone well and everyone seems to be working together.
Even though the population is bigger and more dense than Aus, it is not the worst place to be stranded!

She has one big advantage over Scott Morrison. She doesn't have to deal with Australians.

“What’s wrong with calling him a Chinaman ... he’s a man who comes from China”.

You’re like the dude who put lemon juice on his face and thought it made him invisible. This moronic logic doesn’t provide you the cover you think it does. It’s totally transparent. The virus has name. Calling it something else has a reason.

Posting here a link to a Covid simulator (like the old Life game). Shows what happens to spread of infectious disease when you vary infectious rate, social distancing, etc.

- my suburb has three cases of Coronavirus "confirmed"

- I went to the pharmacy yesterday and people we're bumping into each other, coughing without covering their mouth. I started yelling at everyone, including employees telling to keep distance even though there is a clear sign saying so.

- this has not been reported in the news but I found that in Springvale two people working at Subway who had coronavirus went back to work even though they knew they had it

- Richard Wilkins contracted the virus over a week ago but feels 100% fine. The government suggests you don't have to self isolate if you haven't had symptoms for three days but RW just got tested and he has no symptoms but he still had the virus.

- the virus reportedly can last weeks on surfaces and asymptomatic cases can last over a week

- in Italy all the doctors advice is to treat like age behave like you already have the virus. STAY HOME is their message.

- kids ARE NOT SAFE. Noone is. Perfectly healthy young people have died with no preexisting conditions. Children who may get a secondary flu or infection are just likely to be in danger as old people. Scomo also does take into account children may have other underlying conditions like respiratory illnesses who would struggle to cope. He also also does not take into account that teachers will contract it and who is going to be teaching the kids of they're not around?

- ultimately the economy means squat when this inevitably gets out of habd and overwhelms our system. Asking people to comply when full complete lockdown will be inevitable it's not really delaying things; it's speeding it up and making it worse.

Is the Spanish flu a racist name or nah
Yes, because the first know case actually came from the USA!
The Spanish hated it being called the Spanish flu and in fact called it the 'French Flu'.

It's called the Spanish Flu as they didn't have censorship as they weren't in the war, so their papers reported it.

The more you know.

So I take it you will call mad cow England disease, h1n1 America disease, and so on?

Why don't you just call it sars-yellowskin if you really want
