Right..........should have played ahead of some hack called Franklin, Roughead and Williams.......

Hodge - flimsy arguement........midfielder pushing forwards......not KPP.

Morton played wing and pushed forwards. Different positions.

These kids are directly competing for the Franklin and Roughead spots........and as defenders would be behind Croad, Brown and Gilham.

Tell me..........is Walker playing instead of Hartlett?

Thorpe debuted last year and was very impressive. Had hip operation at the end of the year which I have already mentioned.

Point is........NOT getting a game behind the best forward line in the comp when they haven't had any injuries or form probs ISN'T the cause for concern. There are others......but that aint it.

There would be some consideration in your suggestion if you were trading picks for Thorpe, but there is no way you would even consider trading our first round for Hawthorn's first round for Dowler.
Sure Hawthorn have some quality forwards, but at the same time it is not as if both Thorpe and Dowler has been performing at a high level in the VFL, as l am sure if they have been they would have played some games this year for the experience even if it was on the interchange.

Sorry. HBF's fault Dowler snuck into the equation.

Thorpe has been my interest all along.:thumbsu:

I really do believe Essendon need to take an elite mid at some stage. I can't even remember when you guys drafted a high mid in a draft.

D Myers - 2007 @ Pick 6

He's more of a midfielder than a running defender

Thorpe just re-signed.

I think we look more at keeping that first pick and taking a young forward of our own if there is one about the mark.

Possibly trade the second round pick for Warnock, and Kreuzer may well play forward/ruck more than we thought.

Seems to lead well, is a good set shot on goal, and with some pre-seasons the contested marking will improve.

Maybe Kreuzer could be the CHF we have been looking for???

That is a brilliant point HBF. However, to me none of the midfielders are elite, whereas Hurley is an elite key position. So I want us to draft Hurley.

Guys our first pick will be used to secure, Kerr, Chapman, Wells etc I am sure we will grab one of these guns

Chapman will stay at the Cats, more than likely Wells will stay with Roos, Kerr not sure that anyone knows for sure until trade week.
All three are quality players, but none address our key problems with our list, and that being a quality key forward etc to support Fev.

With Mal Michael retiring, I cannot see how Essendon will pass on Hurley.

The Hurley dream is over because we should finish above Essendon so there is no way he will be around at our pick.

Ziebell....come on down!
How do we know who Essendon rate?

We will win finish below Richmond who have drawn a game and play Fremantle and Melbourne after they face Hawthorn.

We could easily go zero and three when the Roos and Lions are our bogey sides.

We should pants the Hawks though. :p

Essendon might pick Ziebell if they think Hurley isn't quick enough to play full back and better suited to CHB which is Ryder's position. They might rate Pears as a full back and Ziebell higher than Hurley because of his upside as a bottom age player. A potential fly in the ointment is Essendon drafting Hurley for their forwardline as a replacement for Lloyd or Lucas. They have Hislop out ATM, but Ziebell would complement their flankers and runners in Lovett, Davey, Riemers, Stanton, Reimers, Monfries and Myers.

Ziebell might be a similar player to Hird who can play anywhere and kick goals because he looks good overhead.

We might still get Hurley if results go our way.

Semantics champ. I am not saying they should be getting a game ahead of Franklin, Roughead and Williams, I am saying they should perhaps be rotating off the bench with one or the other or maybe even being tried in different positions.

I see Morton as being similar to Thorp. Thorp has great running capacity and could run through the middle/wing or play in the backline.

Dowler has been playing at CHB for the VFL a bit and lately as a wingman and could also have been tried through there coming off the bench given that Croad has missed a fair chunk of this season (and Brown also missed a couple I think).

Point being that I don't think they should be replacing those gun players, I am just asking the question that - unless they are injured - why they haven't even cracked it for a bench spot to be tried through the AFL system.

Yeah....Thorp debuted last year for a total of 1 game in which he had 5 possessions. Sign him up now!!

Anyway, Thorp's just re-signed so its a moot point.

Hurley won't be likely anymore, not now Essendon are below us and are out of the finals race ;)

We might be looking beyond Hurley and Ziebell at the moment the way we are playing, whether that is a good things (is if we make the eight) or a bad thing i'm not sure. Sidebottom, Robinson, Johnston, Yarran or McKernan seem to be options now if we do in fact stay where we are or make the eight.

was watching the Herald Sun shield yesterday.
Mckernan didnt do much. i would pass. but then again its only one game.
This one kid i have never sein before Simon Collis got best on ground. Very good player. i asked some people how his form has bein during the year and they were very pleased. Also a year 10 boy Dion Prestia was second best on. Unlucky to get BOG.
one to watch in the next 2 years. :)

Got pick 6 stitched up now. Richmond play Fremantle and Melbourne over the next two weeks, and should win both of them. We'll either end up with Hartlett, Ziebell or Hurley. I'd be happy with any of these guys.

:thumbsu:

Yeh i can't see us getting a higher pick than 6th to be honest, i think the odds would be on Ziebell at the moment but surprises are always sprung apon us during draft time.

Same. The only other one that might slip would be Hartlett. Still think Port will pounce on him though.

Yeh a few people seem to think Hamish Hartlett will slip down a little, not sure why though, he's definitely a top 6 pick IMO. Port and Fremantles picks will be the interesting ones, especially if Fremantle finish 3rd last which looks likely.

The Dockers will have a decision to make whether they take Naitanui or a midfielder they so dearly need (Ziebell or Hartlett). Ports pick might also be a surprise one because if Naitanui isn't available, they may look at Vickery (personally i wouldn't) or even Hurley, both players they could certainly use. Hartlett is also in with a spot at this pick because he is a classy midfielder and is also SA.

The Bombers will take Hurley for sure IMO if he's available, i just can't see them leaving themselves so wide open in defense with Michael retiring and Fletcher having 1 year left. They haven't taken a midfield high in the draft for ages but i think there midfield is able to compete much better if they can stay fit.

Normally team just go best available with their top picks but this year seems really even and teams might be looking more at their needs. Personally i think the top 6 of Watts, Rich, Naitanui, Ziebell, Hartlett and Hurley are a slight step above the rest so i'd be a little surprised if they weren't the first 6 names read out. As i said though, things can happen between now and then, just look at Dale Thomas, his stocks went through the roof after his TAC Cup final. Was looking more the be a pick around 10-15 but was taken at 2.

Just give me someone who can hit a target over 40m please.

This is what we need.:thumbsu:

Part of our issue today was the inability to take the first option. Lacks confidence and skill. Look at the top sides. They always take the first option and most times they execute well. We hesitate, and then execute poorly.

Anyone who fits that bill?

Does anyone have any info on Ziebell? Or any video's of him? It'd be good to get a look at him.
There are some good ones on youtube mate.

His first name is Jack so just type in Jack Ziebell and you'll get some info!

I would just like to say its 50/50 of Hurley coming to your club.

For me its really Carlton or Port he will go to.

If WCE decide to get Rich instead of Natuini (which I hope they dont.. then Crows get a shot at Hartlett :)) Port will get Nat and Freo will most probably get Hartlett or even better (in Crows words) Ziebell!

Then Hurley will fall down to you guys.
If WCE get Rich and Port get Hurley and Freo would most probably get Nait..

Then you have a chance of getting Ziebell!!

I have a feeling that a tall back type won't get past the dons. Pretty sure they'll get a pick before us.

Thanks for the heads up on the youtube vids. I'll take a look now. :)
