If you could have either of these as a 18 year old who would you have?

Still bitter that your prediction the Hawks had him didnt come to fruition.

Judd everyday of the week, did you see him as an 18 year old?

Judd could/can rip a game apart in a quarter, the complete package inside and out. Cousins built his running game up over a number of years however his possession and ball carrying simply isnt in the same class as Judd at his best, and never will be.

Anyone who votes for Cousins either knows nothing about the game, is a fanboi or like H2F above here has a massive chip on their shoulder.

Cousins is a leader of men...Judd is woefully inadequate, not captain material, unless you want a captain that stands back and watches his club destroy itself.

Instead you want a Captain who destroys himself and brings others into the fold?

What a ridiculous comment, made by another who falls into the aforementioned categories, in this case a little out of every column but it's pretty obvious this ones still suffering from a little bit of broken heart disease :D

Without the leadership from Cousins, Judd would have been just another ball or fletcher...still would have been better than anything failmantle have produced though.

Cousins is a true champion, anyone who disputes that just doesn't know much about footy

What a load of shit, you think Judd wouldnt be the player he is without Cousins? Like I said fanboi.

Cousins isnt a true champion, he's a recovering addicted who was suspended by the AFL for bringing the game into disrepute.

A true champion is someone who doesnt flagrantly disregard the rules which bound all players, he was a druggie, he took illegal substances whilst playing our great game. Rules the word champion out IMO.

Exceptional football player, hardly a champion.

It's better to have loved and to have lost, than to of not loved at all. Or, in this case, it's better to have had two absolute gun midfielder's who took your team to a flag, and to lose them, then to be condemned to following a team with a bunch of overrated hacks who will never achieve anything...

As for the poll: Flip a coin. In their prime, they were both unbelievably good players. A pleasure to watch them play for the mighty Eagles. Cousins was always the better on-field leader though.

Plenty of champion footballers have partaken in the pleasures of illicit drug use. Cousins defined the word "champion" when it came to Aussie Rules.

So anyone who takes drugs is not a champion? What about alcohol? Cigarettes? Marijuana? Where is the line drawn?

Your opinion is irrelevant as you have a limited understanding of what a champion is as failmantle has yet to produce one.

firstly they are both ridiculously good players. cuz hid a nasty drug problem for a long time when he should have been a professional athlete and living clean, making the most of his opportunity to play for the club he loved. easy for me to say whos never touched the stuff, but it was still bad news as it would have been for someone in almost any profession. he was however unaffected for the most part on the field and was a terrific player and leader even during his habit which probably didnt help because he possibly would have seen little reason to quit. i reckon he is a genuinely good bloke which makes it all the more sad he that messed up so big and had to be out of the club he obviously loved so much. he did cause fractures within the club though and realistically could never have been taken back by us after hiding his drug problem for so long.

juddy was always a reluctant leader and it shows i think. a stupidly good player though. and a good guy too, just seems more quiet and laid back, and mabye not as cut out to lead by voice, if only by example. he left to go back home and alot of eagles supporters are bitter because of it. i have always been a fan regardless, and remember that they both helped us to a premiership.

if cuz had of been initially drafted by richmond in the 1995 draft and decided to come back to wa and play for the eagles half way through his career we would have all been exstatic.

thats what i think about the whole thing. its just my personal thoughts and im a lifetime west coast supporter. - both are great west coast champions. cus acted up and couldnt be taken back and rightly so - it was dissapointing as he was a great player and i hoped he would kick his habit and prosper at another club. judd went home and it was dissapointing because he is a brilliant player, and was reason enough to head to subi oval. if you are a west coast supporter dont be so basic to chose one over the other

There will be a lot of rubbish said on this thread from wcE, Carl and Rich supporters, so safe to say it will not be a good read.

FACT - Judd will go down as an all time great by the time he wraps up career in 5-6 years. Along with the likes of Carey, Ablett, Hird etc. He is already almost there.

Cuz will be a rung or two below. Brilliant player, awesome gut busting runner.

You would be wrapped to have either, but Judd will be remembered as the greater player. This is a certainty.

Judd was a freak, from 03 through to mid 07 nobody could match him for pace inside traffic, so many time he was thought to be the quickest player in the league.

Cousins is hard to get a measure on unless you have seen him as an Eagles or Tigers fan at his best, he is not just a rover - he defines on field leader.

If I were rebuilding the club then it would have to be Judd, just too good inside traffic for the first 140 odd games of his career.

um nah. i think they are both absolute champions of the footy club and rightly so. and yeah as far as playing ability i personally think juddy is one of the best players to play the game. but to love one and hate on the other as an eagles supporter is narrow and immature in my opinion. i would say alot of your current team and retired west coast heroes would happily have a friendly chat after a game or a froffy in their downtime with either of the two. they are past players who departed for different reasons but time has passed and most inside the club would be thankfull for their contribution and wish them all the very best.

the only exception is for the short amount of time nowadays that we play either richmond or carlton. from the bounce down until the final siren i hope we give both of them a bit to think about during the course of the game :thumbsu:

Judd was probably the better player but Cousins gave a lot more to West Coast than Judd did.

If I could have Judd at Richmond I'm guessing the go home factor would be reversed, with Ben the one who could potentially come home.
