so we're getting there. It's not all politics, it's now a judgement call on what constitutes 'controversy'. And again, outside of all politicians, which you just reversed, can you identify a few individual controversial left wing identities that shouldn't be instagrammed. This shouldn't be hard for you, I'm sure you could name a couple of dozen high profile RWNJs off the top of your head. Just give me your top 5 controversial lefties.
Honestly I couldn't give you even a combined top 3. I don't follow that stuff closely. Who's a controversial Australian right wing identity these days?

I don't know, I'm not the one suggesting that players should and if they get it wrong, judged by someone at the club, should be counselled over it. You're creating the system and now you're claiming that yo7 can't identify who is or isn't controversial. So can you then identify who at the club you appoint to be the arbiter of your system? I think we're nearly there.

The public relations team at any major organisation would do this for all of their high profile staff

O'Brien wouldn't have been spoken to about this. Move on.
He probably wouldn't have.

But the club would definitely have someone tasked with deciding who is or isn't too controversial for players to associate with. That's bread and butter stuff for the media team

So would we assume that’s already happening? So if they’re happy with that Insta post, are you?

I would say the club does advise players on what they can and can't post on social media. There's probably a social media policy at the club.

Ultimately I don't care what players post so long as it doesn't drag the club into a controversy (which hasn't happened outside of one media story) and doesn't impact their on field performance

With that said I think the club's media strategy in terms of minimizing negative PR has been poor to say the least over the last few years

Reilly O'Brien posting a photo of himself with Jordan Peterson was never going to "drag the club in to controversy". Similarly if he posted a photo from a climate rally. No one cares.

Obviously we fundamentally don't agree on this.

I've said before that I think there are certain people in the media who will create controversy out of very minor things. Who knows what we'll get dragged into next.

That’s a lot of words to use to avoid answering the question. You stated that ROB required some form of counselling regarding posting that image. The question I’m asking is whether if the relevant arbiter us comfortable with that image being posted, are you?

Controversy? An article written by some Instagram chaser in December that no one cares about. If it had legs it would still be running. Most people ignored it including the wider media.

Your comment regarding our PR being hopeless is true but it doesn't relate to this. I think you're clutching at straws from your earlier assertion that he would/should be counselled over it.

I answered the question definitively. If you don't want to accept the answer that's fine

You are basically saying there is definitely no way any media would ever make a controversy out of this or similar.

I'm saying history has shown it's unpredictable what does and doesn't become a story so the easiest way to avoid that is minimizing ammo

That's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying, a photo of a footy player with Jordan Peterson is something that no one cares about, and footy players should be able to post a photo on their social media with Jordan Peterson or from a Greens rally, because it's a non issue.

If it had legs, it'd be running.

They tested the waters, and the story didn't grab. That's fine, and ultimately you've been proven right that it's a non-story

No you didn’t, you definitively avoided answering. You initially spoke to the need for the arbiter in the first place and advised that clubs have these. Given you’d pre-determined the need for some form of interaction with ROB, my question was a simple yes or no. If the arbiter wasn’t concerned with the post, are you happy with their decision? It really requires nothing more than a yes or no.

But I think, like Kirky, you’ve realised where you’ve corralled yourself. So I don’t expect an actual response.

BTW, seeing as you managed to identify JP as a controversial figure, have you managed to identify anyone from your edge of the spectrum?

And yet you can instantly identify a right wing controversial figure but despite much thought arrive at the conclusion that you can’t identify a single left wing version.

You’re not stupid, you know exactly what you’ve done here and you know you’re boxed in. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

If the club's media manager had zero concerns I wouldn't be happy. I'd take a more risk averse approach. Surely this has been clear from what I've said.

I would be concerned about the risk of controversy, as I've said multiple times. Even if there isn't any actual controversy in the end, which is the case here, I would be concerned about the possibility. In the end if something doesn't generate negative PR I don't care.

I don't spend much of my day to day life researching or caring about politics and who the latest important people are. I find most people involved in that field absolutely insufferable

I honestly feel dumber for reading the last few pages, such a non issue that ROB has his photo taken with someone who challenges the ideals of one side of politics. Society works better when we have those voices because when we don't, we have fascism, or worse, communism, I'd always view those who want to keep a voice silent with some scepticism.
