Not really - Alinta isn't really the carbon emitter - but rather the millions of australian consumers who want power in their houses.

Ctricketers fly business/first class all over the world staying in lush hotels. Their footprint is massive and exponentially worse than the average punter.

He also takes the millions at IPL which have large emitters as sponsors.

I get avoiding gambling, firearms etc - those can easily be avoided. But carbon emission? That's a demand issue largely. And Pat as an individual is one of the worst in the world.
Very hypocritical considering he happily took sponsorship $ from Alinta recently.

Paine is seeming like an alright bloke at this point.

I remember Cummins was going on about Dark Emu awhile back. That book is basically a poster child in white washing bollocks and he has lapped it up.

Massive hypocrite, sounds like he might need to start getting a ship to england/india instead of flying first class like he usually does lol

If he believes in dark emu, he is not a hypocrite, he is just ****ing dumb.

A much better stand by Pat would be to release a statement along these lines:

"As a firm believer in climate change I am distressed by the carbon emissions created by the international cricket economy. As the Australian team captain I know that, at this time, there is little alternative to the many long and carbon heavy flights that are necessary to play international cricket. However, in order to reduce my own carbon footprint I will no longer be available to play the IPL or any other franchise cricket tournaments. From this moment I will only represent my country and state".

We can't on one hand expect sportspeople to be role models while on the other hand telling the to shut their mouth about things that are important to them. Surely part of being a role model is standing up for your beliefs.

Regardless of the Alinta stuff, I'm glad it's not Warner or Smith. I'm still not super comfortable with the Capetown 3 even playing for Australia when none of them have told us the truth of what happened, the crocodile tears without explaining what they actually did (aside from "letting everybody down") were never enough. It's not a contrite apology if you will never admit what you did.

That said... you can keep digging a hole, can't you? It's impossible that you can be using sandpaper to tamper with a ball without the bowlers noticing it.

No issues with people supporting themselves but Cummins making a big deal about Alinta if that's what he's passionate about but when the bloke at the same time is accepting sponsorship money from a Chinese government backed company is a bit laughable.

you can't pick and choose what to be woke about. Youd think Cummins would be smart enough to know that.

Alinta were one of the only companies to touch Australian cricket after the sandpaper issue.

In day games only.

Cummings is like most greenies, uninformed and uneducated. Gas is over 2 times as efficient as coal and produces less emissions. India, where he earns millions is now burning over 1 billion tons of coal.

And our coal is 50% more efficient than the major exporter, Indonesia. So this idiot is happy for countries to buy and use coal the is less efficent and produces more emissions than Aussie coal and gas.

India will complete 10 new coal fired plants this year with another 13 under construction. These idiots do not deal in facts, they deal in feelings. You, Pat Cummings are an idiot.

Let's all take a moment to think of news corp journalist Ben Horne, who has been campaigning relentlessly for David Warner to be given the captaincy of the 50 over side.

WHY ? the bloke is 36 and doesn't have much time left in the game as it is.

i can easily see him being retired from test cricket and odi cricket this time next year.

I'm guessing he'll be our next PM as well.

Doesnt have an issue racking up millions of km in the most polluting form of transport in order to make millions of dollars for himself.

Probably believes that Nigeria selling carbon credits are actually a legitimate thing and not a scam.

So I'm not the only one who received an email from someone in Nigeria who needs help in getting $1m in carbon credits out of their country! That's a relief. I can be "net zero" for life now!

Only $1m? Sucker !!

Freo have a similar thing where some members want them to dump Woodside. They are okay with 40 people flying around the country every 2nd week to play a game, but a sponsor they dont like is just a step too far !!

I see Zampa has now jumped on the bandwagon.

He is a proud vegan, so it's interesting why he has never spoke up about KFC sponsoring the Australian team and the big bash.

If they are serious about their moral values, then why not speak up about the other sponsors e.g. Bet365; Bundaberg Brewing and 4Pines (betting and alcohol that have a big part in the destruction of peoples lives) .....and that naughty car company Toyota. What about paying in the IPL with India continuing to be one of the top 3 polluters in the world (and seemingly not doing much about it)?

How many players have been given cars to drive as part of their sponsorship packages?

Is hypocrite too harsh a word?

Or maybe they are too stupid to understand what they are saying.

Proved his mettle in test cricket. I assume someone will stand in for the many series he is likely to miss... Maybe Warner will end up captaining Australia at times anyway, although I suspect Carey will be the first cab off the rank.

Watching our conservative friends get their knickers firmly set into the twisted position is just the icing on a bloody nice tasting cake :)

You absolutely can choose which issues you want to be passionate and outspoken about. You have to do this, or it loses all impact and in our current disgraceful "us vs them" discourse of politics and you're immediately written off as a "woke lefty."

What position do you want him to take in regards to China? How is it related to his (alleged) stance on Alinta? (Which we should note he's denied involvement in.)

God I think it's hilarious... If we don't speak out against places like fast food giants we aren't militant enough, but when we do speak out against them we're annoying militant vegans who want to tell others how to win.

It's always no-win for the vegans unfortunately :(

We shouldn’t be surprised. Pat was chosen for the captaincy because:

“Cummins has acquired a reputation as a controlled, almost bookish breed of fast bowler whose commitment to matters environmental, Indigenous and anti-racist might attract the go-to derogatory label “woke”.

“This week he was announced among almost 400 athletes from 35 sports as part of Cool Down, headed by former Wallabies captain David Pocock, to raise awareness of climate change through their profiles as sportsmen and women.”

Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

If we were happy to let the alleged expertise of Twiggy Forrest shape our social welfare policy I don't see why Pat Cummins having a say in who does and doesn't sponsor the cricket team is unreasonable.

No issue having a view

But don’t expect others to live to a standard you won’t yourself

As has been repeatedly pointed out - he takes the money and pollutes far more than the average person

If it’s truly his values - then live it

He doesn’t and outs himself as a hypocrite

I don’t think Cummins has ever offered an opinion on how you or I should live.

no it doesn't when your actions literally counter your actual beliefs.

Cummins is an eco-warrior. No worries, good on him.

Why does he support the IPL and the Indian sponsorships? Has he seen where India gets its energy from rofl?

this is woke shit at daytime, but takes the cash at night time stuff.
